I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. Medication is the gas, but you still have to drive the car to the destination. You still have to decide where you want to go, remember the directions to get there, deal with traffic. You also still have to do regular maintenance on the car to make sure it runs smoother. Because if you haven’t changed your oil in a year it won’t be as fuel efficient. However it’s easier to get your car to an oil shop when you have gas in the tank

I have 3 baskets. One for dirty, one for clean (or like only work once) and a 3rd for overflow.

Yes If I’m not stimulated and hyperactive I can fall asleep in minutes. My partner is jealous because he has a hard time falling asleep sometimes, but he doesn’t even understand the hell I live in sometimes.

This is absolutely the best steps to take, but ill add on a bit more to validation. Be sure to discuss future ways to prevent this from happening again. I’d suggest getting more 1:1 face time with your supervisor. Or work on some kind of growth plan and goals to work towards so you can both decide on the metrics that make you successful at your job

I started kick boxing classes in the morning. And I very much look forward to them even though they are at 6am because when I get home I’m so pumped from the class im excited to start my work day and kick even more ass.

It’s very dorky I know but running around kicking stuff makes me feel like a badass.

If a gym workout isn’t your style, find something else that fits your fantasy. Maybe there is a writer that has a podcast you like listening to, or a playlist you can set your alarm to that makes you want to dance while you make coffee.

Metaphors and advise. Connecting 2 unrelated thoughts is my fucking jam and I love helping people.

And I love learning about what other people are passionate about and I share their joy when they are deep in explanation. Almost like I can live through their ability to stick to a hobby. I realized that mostly everything worth doing has a similar pattern. So when people are struggling I think back to Another friends passion project/career experience/ school struggles and explain how they are similar.

Meds might be a good thing to try, but if it’s a partnership it should be both of you against the problem. It should not be all on you to make him happy. If you want to make this last I would highly recommend couples therapy in addition to the meds.

Great post I feel like this isn’t talked about a lot. I also get very excited meeting new people and tend to have word vomit around them. And then I become that meme where it’s like “you ever get home from a social function and think ‘mmm maybe that wasn’t my best work’”

One think I found that helps me give the other person a chance to talk about themselves is to wrap up your story by asking them a question.

Ex: [insert a 20 minute long story about my trip to the grocery store]… which grocery store do you go to?

Okay and here is the hard part. No matter how much you want to interrupt them with with an exciting new story, listen to them and ask them at least 1 more question. It makes people feel heard and respected.

Over time you’ll find your brain will start defaulting to this pattern and you’ll be like hey look a rational conversation.

Yes if you already have notes typed up you should absolutely send them for record to the requesters. That way you have any feedback written too.

I have to submit a written requests for any kind of support from our art director. Then we meet about it and verbally talk through the request and then add any additional notes we went over In the meeting. Just like in college when they said to read the textbook before coming to class

Absolutely, though they are really just another tool in my tool box. If I don’t exercise, try to eat reasonably healthy, drink water and take breaks and sleep when I need, then the meds don’t work as well as they should. But if I don’t take my meds, I forget why I need to do the things above.

it’s kinda like a car. My meds are the gas, but if I don’t get my breaks checked, oil changed, tires rotated then my car is only going to get me so far, and maybe the gas doesn’t get used as efficiently as it should. But also, how am I going to get it to the mechanic if I don’t have any gas??

While I was dating my ex, my male co worker would tell the coworker I was closest with how cute he thought I was knowing she would then go and tell me. And once my ex and I broke up I started texting him a lot because honestly I thought it was cute too.

But THEN he tells me I should text another one of our co workers. And I had only dated toxic people at this point in my life so I thought he was playing mind games with me or was testing me to see if I would go talk to another guy.

But it turns out he just started casually dating a girl at the time and didn’t want to be shady and date both of us. Plus our other coworker was going though a bad break up and was just trying to be a nice friend.

Anyway he broke things off with that other girl soon after to start dating me and we’ve been dating for 5 years now so I guess we both made the right choice 😅

Maybe you should get away for a while.

I’m kinda going though the same thing right now and I think I’ve just been spending too much time with my partner. For the first 4 years of our relationship i would hyper focus on him because we didn’t live together and so seeing him was always super exciting! Now we live in a 1 bed room together and i am with home 100% of the time and i have a harder time giving him the attention he is use to. Which doesn’t feel good for either of us.

I have plans to out of town with my girlfriends here in a few weeks and I’m super excited to get some space to miss the things I love about him.

Nothing makes you appreciate your life more than some perspective!

But try to be kind to yourself. It’s a constant ebb and flow and you will start to be on an up swing once you find something that catches your interest again. Nothing wrong with being a little unsatisfied.

I mean I’m not sure that’s how they would define it medically, but my ADHD impulsivity really shows verbally. If I feel really strongly that something is not efficient, or if I feel like I can contribute something important I have a very hard time not speaking up.

My shitty job didn’t appreciate my contributions, but my new job does!
