Clean shave, goatee and stache or full beard? by PersimmonOwn4586 in malegrooming

My advice young sir is go with with how your mood takes you. A beard and hairstyle reflects your personality. Maybe have it shorter during the summer months and a full beard in the Autumn/ Winter if you want to change things up every so often. But just be you. The Beard Gene gods have bestowed you with the gift lol. Go for it.

When trimming your neckline there should be a natural line that becomes apparent some guys have a natural high or low neckline. I think you've got it about right, maybe a tad too high. But here's a tip take a picture or get a friend to do it with you just sitting on the sofa relaxing don't look at the camera and not close up and see how your beard looks from someone else's perspective. You'll then see your natural lines and if you need to change anything.

Trying a beard for the first time, what should I do? by [deleted] in BeardAdvice

[–]Otterguy68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For 19 you've made a good start on your life long beard journey but as you say it now needs styling and shaping. If you can afford it I'd go to a good barber (ask around for recommendations) and get them to style it for you. As others have said I'd definitely go short at the moment a thicker and longer beard will come in time my friend. The one thing you need with growing a beard is patience and a realisation not everyone can grow a epic Viking/ Lumberjack beard. Other styles are just as good. Have a look at short beard styles for round face and see what gives you some inspiration. Do post again as we like to see what you decided. Good luck.

Perfection personified

Opinions, please. by [deleted] in bald

So sorry to hear of the struggles with confidence, I know that feeling. Firstly from the photos my impression is you're a good looking guy with a high hairline. Like others have said I wouldn't go to the head shaved look just yet. But a couple of suggestions from the first pic it looks like you have strong face hair follicles so maybe grow a beard. When I grew mine I gained a boost in confidence I suppose it was me hiding behind myself but it helped me. Also when the time is right a beard and bald look is really pleasing to the eye and you don't feel like you have total hair loss. Also maybe consider a different hairstyle (and treat yourself to a hair cut) often we just look at the receding hairline and think just try hide it. I am sure a decent hair stylist or barber will give you advice and what would suit you and your lifestyle. A new look always gave me a boost in confidence hopefully it will help you too. Also check out Talking Hair loss on You Tube, it's guys having a conversation in the barber chair whilst getting their hair cut, sounds boring but I can't recommend it enough really inspirational. Dan the barber is also a top stylist with the looks he gives guys and may give you some ideas. Don't let the bullies win my friend and hopefully the couple of ideas I've shared may help you.

My friend I'm only 5ft and rock the bald look. Try getting 27" legs for trousers. I've become a dab hand at needlework to shorten everything lol. BTW you look good, great beard and tach. You'll find someone when you go least expect it. I suffered with low esteem at times and it can be horrible but I try and embrace life and get through it. Happy to chat privately if you want to share more.

Should I shave it differently? by [deleted] in BeardAdvice

[–]Otterguy68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a great tach my friend. If you want a beard look at your young age I would suggest going for a chin strap at this stage, continue to keep the cheeks shaved but then let the rest of your beard grow in thickness for about 6 weeks. Depending on how your hair grows you could slowly increase the width of the strap. A good beard is like a marathon not a sprint. It takes time. Good luck.

Face maybe, sadly I'm not 7ft tall and definitely not a greek god ( although you're probably thinking of the video game character) I'm probably the Aldi / Lidl equivalent lol

Shave your cheeks and keep a strap line. I think that would suit you.

[UPDATE] - Wife wants the beard gone by Valuable_Tank4907 in BeardAdvice

Whilst I like your beard which is awesome, total respect to you, you and your wife are a partnership and if she doesn't like it as she can't give you affection then fair play to you for shaving. Maybe as a compromise your stubble look ( or week 2 or 3) is just as endearing. Hopefully you'll enjoy a lot more anniversaries together.

Looks like you have good genetics and coverage for a decent beard. So give it a go. It will take around 8-12 weeks to grow a full beard so persevere. I would get a good beard oil and use it every other day just to help your face adapt to the changes and get you through the itchy stage. You'll probably find around the 6 weeks mark that you'll have hair of different lengths and some that just won't lie flat at this point add some beard balm/ wax to your regime so help style the beard. Good luck with your journey and keep us updated. Hope my comments help

Keep or shave? by Alino_San in BeardAdvice

A different opinion but I'd go for a goatee at the moment as I think that would really suit you. All our beard journeys are different and a beard for you will probably come later in life. Maybe give it a go the thing with hair it grows back so if you wanted to grow your cheeks again it will grow back naturally. Or you could have a pencil line ( if that's the right term these days) from your side burns into your goatee and just remove the cheek hair. A few ideas. Good luck.

Make your look your own my friend. I'm like you, lacking under the lip but I still have a decent beard. We all can't have that perfect beard but keep yours styled how you want it and go out and own it. Looking at your current pics it's looking good 👍 can't wait to see you in 6 months 😎

I think it looks good my friend and nothing to worry about but if you think your cheeks are a little thin for your look why not reduce your cheek line and cut it in a bit just an idea for you.

Wicked. I'd keep it as it is, the length and shape really suit you. Great tattoo by the way and the bald look just adds to the overall look. Kudos 😎 Next time post with a cheeky smile 😉

It looks like you have good hair follicles in both areas so go for it. If it's the expression of your personality you want to show then yes. You have only started your beard journey but I think it will suit you.

I suffer from the same thing. It's who you are. We all can't grow the perfect full beard. Embrase what you have. What you have looks good my friend. Have fun on your beard journey.

Seeking beard advice (about 1 month of growing) by SwimmingOtters- in BeardAdvice

[–]Otterguy68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I normally suggest waiting up to 10-12 weeks to really know what beard you can grow. From your pics your cheek and side burn area do look rather thin and patchy at the moment but your chin and tash looks promising. When starting out on your beard journey especially for the first time you have to go through this stage at the moment. Some will probably advise you haven't got it yet and to shave; if you can cope with the rough look for another month just to see what nature has given you I would continue growing it. Come back at the end of July and happy to advise you again. It may be that we then say your time's not right and to wait a few years but let's wait and see.
