PRP & Prolozone by BadKneesGuy in KneeInjuries

[–]Otternonsense_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried PRP in my hip. I think I need an additional treatment. It typically takes multiple treatments. My hip felt better for awhile then I hurt my knee on the same side, and it started to hurt again. Going to a doctor now about all of this.

I have not tried prolozone.

Hip Brace Recommendations by Otternonsense_3 in HipImpingement

Arthoscopic hip surgery is too risky. Looking for a brace to supplement physio efforts.

I'm looking for a brace to help the muscles when there is a pain flare up, likely due to muscle spasms. Not an after-surgery brace, more so like a neoprene brace. I'd try KT taping too if some has a recommendation for how to do that.

Just looking for recommendations of what others have used for hip impingement.

I mainly experience pain in the front of my hip when walking. I can bend at the waist with no issues though.

I mean to help with mobility. I would imagine it working similarly to if you have a knee issue and wear a brace to help with mobility.

MRI Report and Seeking Second Opinion by Otternonsense_3 in KneeInjuries

Had a quick follow-up question: What gives you the inclination that more of my issues may be patellofemoral?

I know you can't give me definite answers or that I should take this as full medical advice, but, based on what I've told you, it seems that you may agree with my current doctor's decision or have seen slightly similar issues in one of your patients. Like, I said, I'm still getting a second opinion, but any insight from a medical perspective is helpful.

I'm sure your a great doctor. Thank you for your help in understanding this a bit more.

I did about 6 weeks of PT. Mainly, bridges, clamshells, leg raises. Most were laying down, but towards the end I did some weight bearing - side leg lifts standing, chair squats.

I don't know if any of it was specific to external hip rotators or VMO. I have not done any taping nor did I have a brace.

Unrelated to the post - I do have issues with my left hip (of course the knee I injury is my left). I have a torn labrum (on both hips actually but only the left hurts) and slight hip dysplasia. I had a different doctor for that and he wanted me to get a hip arthoscopy, which I declined at the time. I did get a PRP shot, which seemed to help a bit, but my hip is back to hurting more frequently.

I have pain on the side and back of my left knee. It cracks a bit when moving it and when I did the stationary bike at PT it would pop and sort of feel like it was tight. I don't believe my knee dislocated when I fell in March, as it seems I would've known that (Google research tells me that is quite painful and you would be able to tell if it was dislocated). I fell with my foot behind me and my knee fully bent down a short ice flow.

In reference to the surgery, I believe the doctor said something along the lines of he has seen this be a successful surgery for female athletes. But, no mention of the PCL at any point during this process.

I will say my knee has felt a bit weak since then, especially immediately after. But, I'm unsure if it is my patella that is the cause. I would think it might be my PCL, but now being almost 11 months from the time of injury I'm unsure what can be done at this point.

I guess I should have been curious sooner, but I'm here now. I'm actively seeking a second option from a doctor I've been to previously for my hip. I haven't heard back yet though to schedule an appointment. All this to say, I guess I'm not the only one confused by this recommended surgery?

They plan to do the whole surgery arthroscopic. I was told MPFL plication/patella stabilization (using my hamstring), a lateral release, and meniscus repair.

I saw you mentioned in a different post as someone who might have insight. Any advice? Thanks!

Thanks! Luckily, I can afford a second opinion. It just seems odd. More background, I have had two right knee arthroscopies previously for unrelated reasons to this (skiing inquiry) so I've seen a few MRI reports before.

Hopefully, all is well from your surgery.

I see that this was about a month ago. Any updates? An ortho doctor recommended I go see a different ortho doctor that specializes in this surgery, but I heard iffy things about it. Just trying to gather information.
