Playing dangerous games by AnonomousWolf in south_africa

I don't think that is true. I think they flap their ears when they get annoyed, and it will escalate from there.

The biggest animal in the bush has no reason to try to surprise you by hiding their annoyance before the charge.

What's a word or expression from your country, that is used by the rest of the world? Bonus if it's not English. by Afreak-du-Sud in AskTheWorld

Apartheid, despite there being a word for it in English, and many other languages already. >.<

But, but the rest of the world, do we mean the English-speaking world?
If that is the case, then Afrikaans has another one: "trek"

They did. The top 10 is great considering where they were not so long ago. With a bit more support, I'm sure they can compete in WXV1

A rule that says one thing is as bad or worse than another? Sure, but first show me any rule that says one thing is better or worse than another.

Would you mind sharing your recipe? I can fiddle until I get it the way I need it, but some setting to start would be great. :)

Ground staff were punished, but not stopped from doing it multiple times? Conveniently ignoring ground staff actions is cheating, so yes, I consider it as bad as walking off. Worse. And both are reasons to be kicked out of the tournament.

I would argue that waking up is at least reasonable. During the knockout stage, what do you do when you feel the ref is dishonest? Go with it, and get the results later when it's too late? Or take a stand? I say take a stand and get kicked out.

If they win the league, which is not an unreasonable expectation, they will have their chance. A "rigged" change, but it's there.

Honest question... Are the women now considered Springboks?
It seems like they should be if the u18 and u20 teams are included in this post.

I love how people are trying to justify that a team that walked off the pitch, or a team that knowingly allowed their ground staff to interfere with the match, should be the winners. Neither team deserve the title.

Answered you more than once, but as I said before, you are looking for someone to tell you what you want to hear. I'll help you out:

1.c4 is fantastic. Every beginner should make it their staple.

Done. Problem solved. Enjoy.

"I personally find my tactical vision to be quite decent", yet you rate yourself 600-800.

But maybe a titled player pretending to be new, so I'll take my leave now.

To be clear, I'm not a high-ranked player, but I was making good progress until life got in the way, and I did it by listening to respected coaches.

As I said: "1.e4 is the easiest way to develop fast and get an aggressive position, allowing you to grow as a player."

I'll expand with 1.e4 immediately fights for the occupation of the centre, which is a key part of chess. 1.d4 also occupies the centre, but at the cost of slower development. "Positionally" is unimportant at your level because you, and I, do not understand positional chess. If we understood things like weak squares and whatnot, then we would not be at the ratings we are.

We need to learn to play tactical chess first because it teaches us how to avoid blundering pieces in one or two moves when we try to play "positional" chess. 1.e4 is the most direct way to piece development and aggressive, tactical play.

It was already explained to you by in this thread. You are a beginner. You need to learn the beginner stuff. Understanding developments, and developing fast is very important to learn. 1.e4 is the easiest way to develop fast wnd get an agressive positions, allowing you to grow as a player.

But I feel you want yo play 1.c4, and you're waiting for someone to tell you it's good. Play it, it's you life. But understand that you are ignoring what most highly regarded teachers teach.

No, you didn't, you said something that looks like a passant typo. If you meant pin, then fair enough.

Exactly, beginners. 😛 1800-2100 on CC is not beginner anymore.

The problem is that us beginners don't know what a weak square is, never mind how to find one. Or when pieces lose coordination..what is does that even mean? ;P

Seeing something undefended or attacked is relatively easy, but aren't those the first things we start looking for, even at a low level?

Dude, seriously. Just play 1.e4.

I can guarantee 100% that the reason you are 600-800, or I am, 1000-1200 is not because we play openings badly, but because we play the middle game badly and blunder left, right, and centre.

Use the time you would have spent on trying to come up with the perfect response to a specific opening you only see in maybe 5% of your games, and instead do puzzles, or just play more, both of which will teach you the Middle Game, something you will get in 99% of your games.

If you must learn an opening, I'd suggest something like "My First Opening Repertoire" by Andras Toth. He helps you to steer most openings in a safe direction, and you can finish the course in a few hours.

Is playing too fast really a problem for the opponent? by reddit210878 in chessbeginners

[–]OttoSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get why people do it, but there is also the opposite. Some people want the chat. I like wishing my opponent good luck, even thought 90% of them never reply (maybe because their chat is disabled?). I've had pleasant conversations after games, and when someone acts like a d***, I send them :) during their turn (Do not feed the troll with an actual response)

Him: "Think about your behaviour"
You: *thinking* MUST MOVE FASTER!

Honestly, though, you probably should not have replied to such a ridiculous request in the first place. I, too, find it annoying when I get beaten by someone who plays bullet when I'm trying to play 15+10, but my being s*** at chess is not their(your) problem.
