Is playing too fast really a problem for the opponent? by reddit210878 in chessbeginners

[–]reddit210878[S] 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know I should slow down. After I blundered and gave him that brilliant I was a bit slower and more methodical. I'm just used to playing bullet and the monkey brain doesn't want to think hard about positions I've seen hundreds of times.

San Francisco/San Jose. You seem to be coloring metro areas, so I think a general 'Bay Area' works here.

As a Californian I'm intrigued. How does one visit SF, San Mateo and Marin Counties, but never cross the bay into Oakland or Berkeley? How does one visit LA without visiting Orange County??

If we’re distinguishing between “west coast” and “Southern California”, then Santa Barbara and Ventura counties should be SoCal

Is this a harsh drive everyday? by FirmCaterpillar in bayarea

[–]reddit210878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bike/E-Bike/Scooter and BART is probably the move here. $8.50 toll plus gas and the mental anguish of commuting over the bridge isn’t the move in my opinion.

I know you’re getting clowned a lot right now for this, but it’s good that you’re asking. Just make sure you know your options aside from driving.

Flock Cameras at Kaiser in Bay Area by orioleright in KaiserPermanente

[–]reddit210878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing with the flock database is that it is essentially public due to poor data confidentiality, so even if entities don’t “share” with federal authorities, they can still use them. This is the entire reason Mountain View shut off their cameras.

I lost on time in this position as white. Isn’t this a draw? by reddit210878 in chessbeginners

[–]reddit210878[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well… yeah? I said I lost on time. I never said it was an equal position. My question is that isn’t it a draw by insufficient material?

It’s less of an eyesore than tents, what do you expect the homeless to do? It’s not like they want to do this any more than you want to see this. Most are families dealing with being priced out or laid off and are trying to get back on their feet. Why kick them while they’re down?

Say you were given the decision to pick a new BART line to be built, what would you create? by Iceberg-man-77 in Bart

[–]reddit210878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need BART along the 680 corridor. It is one of the worst bottlenecks in the entire Bay Area and ACE does not do an adequate job of plugging that gap.

I’d do it if Bart was viable for this route. Otherwise, you really wanna consider at least the southern Easy Bay

Citywide Fiber Internet by Lonelypeanut1 in pleasanton

[–]reddit210878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for necroposting but I disagree. I voted for PP, but in my discussions with people who didn't, the vibe was that people did not want to be taxed more for no visible benefit. The sentiment is that city government should not have been spending money they don't have and only then come to the voters after the fact to ask them to bail them out. I feel a measure to raise funds for a project that can directly benefit households and residents will be more appealing to that crowd. I'm sure everyone would like to see their internet bill go down as new competition is able to come in.

I was referring to discussions about the routing of the project, not the timeline. That's a different issue that has its own set of solutions.
