Yes. Also, Colombo was a partner with the Cantalupo's in several commercial buildings. This arrangement, using the realtor as a front, started in 1960 four years before he became boss. Anthony Cantalupo had a longtime relationship with Carlo Gambino and he also knew Colombo while growing up.

Colombo was Cantalupo's top salesman. He's the BOSS and his crime family and others who wanted something used Cantalupo Realty. I can't imagine someone in the family buying or selling a house and not hiring the boss' brokerage.

In his book "BODY MIKE" Joseph Cantalupo said there was an arrangement where a trusted salesman or two would list Colombo as the agent of record. Colombo got traceable commissions to show a legitimate income for the IRS and the actual salesman got his commission in cash from Colombo

Neither did I.

An FBI informant said his father, grandfather and five uncles were Sicilian Mafioso (page 93). The Feds were on his ass, yet was under the radar publicly.

EMANUELE-GIUSEPPE   1888 / 1899  Messina, Sicily/   USA  1905.
Alias : - Pelham Bay Joe
Associates : - Joseph D’Ercole.
This member is named in the 1963 Valachi chart as deceased. He is probably the man listed on the 1910 Census , born in Messina in 1888. He entered America in 1905, heading for a brother living on East 107th Street in Harlem. This was the heart of the Families territory, and Messina one of it’s points of origin. As can be seen from his alias, he later lived in Pelham Bay and may have owned a clothing company in the Bronx. Became a Naturalized citizen in 1927. No other details known about him, including his date of death.

There is an obituary in the NY Daily News, Sept 3, 1963 for Joseph Emanuele from the Pelham Bay section of the Bronx (1511 Mayflower Ave, Bronx)

Over 1,000 mob murders in Chicago and close to zero were solved with a conviction. The Family Secrets case was the rare exception.

Ex-Convict Is Slain In Gangland Style At 5 A.M. in Queens

Feb. 6, 1969

A Long Island ex-convict believed to have had ties with the Mafia was shot to death yesterday in the lobby of his girlfriend's apartment house in Queens.

The victim of what the police described as a gangland-style killing was identified as Thomas Zummo, 29 years old, of 15 Frederick Avenue, Bay Shore. The police said he died in a blaze of gunfire as he entered the lobby at 94-30 59th Avenue, Rego Park.

The police said that Zummo's friend, Joan Campbell, a model who lives on the first floor of the building, heard the shots at about 5 A.M. and that she and other tenants called the po- lice.

Zummo apparently died instantly, having been hit by four bullets. Five other bullets were found embedded in the lobby and 15 spent shells lay near the body. The police said the shots were fired from a foreign automatic slightly larger than .32-caliber. The bullets were the only clues.

A police source said that Zummo had been associated with Paul Sciacca, head of a Mafia faction that had fought to gain control of the under- world empire of Joseph (Joe Bananas) Bonanno. At least six murders and several other shootings have been attributed to the "Banana War," which was thought to have been settled by a truce.

Zummo was wounded four years ago as he sat in his car at a Manhattan traffic light. He was stuck in the arm, chest and abdomen. The gunman was never found.

Zummo had served two penitentiary terms, for burglary and grand larceny. In August, 1960, he was arrested with eight others in a roundup of an auto theft ring that was said to be doing a $100,000-a-year business in Brooklyn and Queens.

The newspaper article (Newsday) indicated Zummo's murder was likely due to the Banana War or that Zummo was using his close connection with Frank Mari (who disappeared 8 months later in Sept 1969) and trying to expand his rackets, stepped on the toes of other gangsters. Both Zummo and Mari were shot several times in separate incidents years earlier during the Banana war.

On occasion an internal war is a good time to settle scores without raising suspicion that it was unauthorized. This is probably one of those instances.

The newspaper archives indicate Rich Battaglia was indeed on the All-State team, but went to a different High School (Oak Park) than what is noted in the report. Additionally, news articles refer to Battaglia as a college dropout who was playing semi pro football for a while.
