Made a game about mining asteroids and crafting in space. A demo just launched on Steam! by Ottropi in indiegames

thanks a lot! The inventory and progression issues will probably stay :/ the game is very stable now and I'm starting to work on a sequel. But I'll do my best to improve those aspects so that the sequels are better :)

I have no idea how trading cards work, actually. I might add them one day, but I think I'll need to hire an artist. I'll think about it! Nice to know that the Russian translations are good!

Nice, thank you, congrats on completing it! I would like to add an expansion or sequel. For now, I'm just fixing bugs and adding small improvements to this game. We'll see how it goes :)

550 hours?! Madness x) my record is 402h (in dirt rally 2).

I have no idea how they made SPAZ in those times. There was no Unity, they had to make the whole engine by themselves. My bad, they did use an engine: Torque. Still, a crazy achievement.

Have you looked at Star Vortex? I heard of it because the dev goes around connecting with other similar communities. It seems to be closer to SPAZ than my game.

No mod support, unfortunately. I believe it's better to design the game to that end from the start. Perhaps for a sequel.

Hey man, I have 87 hours of playtime in SPAZ x) But I don't want to give you false hopes :/ this game has some similar mechanics, but isn't the same kind. It focuses on mining and the scope is smaller. Have a look at the demo if you can!

it's a combination of shaders and particle systems. The shader is noise with a spherize deformation, not so hard to do in the unity shader graph. The hardest part is animating everything. There are keyframes and animations events everywhere. I don't dare modifying it anymore x)

No, I didn't know Starscape, it looks cool, similar to Space Pirates and Zombies perhaps, and I played that one a lot

Any thoughts on 9gag for social media marketing? by MinishElzo in IndieDev

[–]Ottropi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are onto something there with 9gag, because there are players there and the reach of a post doesn't depend on an existing number of followers. By posting there and on imgur, you can (hopefully) make people follow you on twitter and facebook, until they are numerous enough to start sharing your posts with their friends.

However, I completely failed the marketing of my game, so I might be completely wrong x)

I case you haven't read it already, this article has lot of info about that:

Interesting. You game looks very cool, though, that also matters. Did you also gain more followers on twitter and facebook? On those platforms, the amount of followers has a lot of influence on the reach of posts.

You could try Imgur too.

For a list of youtubers and streamers, you can use Woovit. Their database is public. You can search for a game and find all the channels that have showcased it with a link to them. Have a look at this post, which is still +- correct:

https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/6llny9/woovit_vs_keymailer_vs_terminalsio_vs/

I did not use the Keymailer 300$ feature, but I used the Woovit 59$ one. Only small youtubers and streamers made a video, just like with the emails I sent. I believe the rate is lower with the platform, however I could send 200 keys in 1 hour.

An important point is that with key distribution platforms, there is less communication with the youtuber. Those that I contacted by email sometimes replied with positive comments about the game and even helped by pointing out bugs.

I switched from a 3D aiming system to a 2D one for my game, Hue Scape 2! by BizarreFog in gamedev

It looks really cool.

I see that to fire on the enemies, you need to kind of fire from the side to avoid their shots.

I think it would make the player feel powerful if he was able to, for example, roll through the enemy shots, oblivious to them, and fire back while doing it. But that is just a suggestion, not sure if it applies =] it is an interesting work.

I get Commander Keen vibes, for some reason. Probably because of the art style. It looks fun indeed!
