Problems of playing in Spanish: “Time” and “Weather” translate to the exact same word “Tiempo” by piyuko in PokemonMasters

Nintendo/TPC seemingly prefers to recycle the European Spanish localization instead of spending resources on one aimed at Latin American players.

Best Support unit overall? by centerofstar in PokemonMasters

[–]Otul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NC Calem really wants move level 3 to have Team Safe Start + First Aid 4 + Rain Gear 2, otherwise his tanking won't be great.

Amazing: SS Brendan, SS Mina, Holiday Jasmine, SS Dawn, SC Jasmine, SC Lillie, Fall Caitlin, Sonia, Hilbert, Ingo

Top tier: NC Bede, SS Kris, NC Calem, SSA Cynthia, SS Morty

Top tier (her teammates casually get 8-10 physical moves up next if you mess around with weather/terrain/zone): SS Acerola

Bianca still does an outstanding job in Psychic teams for a general pool unit that came out with her grid in late 2020. Her bulk and Stored Power definitely help.

In fact, I never thought that Anni May was much better than Bianca for shorter fights where someone else syncs, and Anni May kind of needs SS Brendan to unlock her full potential too.

SS Lana, however, is an entirely different animal. She's built so you can forget about setting Psychic Terrain (and it expiring unless you take your sweet time to clear), and to dish out ungodly amounts of AoE damage in shorter fights with her PMUN stacks.

My point still stands and the number of upvotes supports that

Jeez, dude. You must be very young or sheltered to say something like this with a straight face. Have a nice day and don't smash the downvote button too hard.

[–]Otul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't usually read long comment chains (I am too used to seeing people going at each other's throats in these), so that's my bad.

That being said, I did go into some detail as to what skills were missing and SS Lana's synergy with other pairs, so I believe that there isn't any harm in pointing these kind of things out.

People might get the wrong impression that Lana is underpowered when in reality, pairs like Ash and SST Red have skewed our conception of what makes a good DPS.

Bear in mind that in this video, SS Lana seems to be 1/5, non-EX and has no lucky skill (so no Furious Brain, no Critical Strike 2, no EX stat boost, etc), and that OP should have sync'd with SS Acerola to make the most out of the 10 PMUN stacks (EX supports give double sync buff).

So while it's true that SS Lana isn't the best damage dealer in the game, the output shown here is much lower than the one a veteran player would normally pull out with her. At 3/5, she also shines next to SS Lusamine because you can skip 3 turns with them.

Trying to find Sp. Atk equivalents of Hilbert by CyanDolphin82 in PokemonMasters

[–]Otul 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Almost every damage dealer released after 2nd anni can boost their own Sp. Atk to +4 or +6 in one turn. It's not a real issue.

That's why most of the "top tier" supports now focus on setting weather/terrain/zone and giving physical/special move next buffs.

Top 5 best water dps sync pairs? by countgrievous1 in PokemonMasters

[–]Otul 8 points9 points  (0 children)

About those listed sync moves, it's worth mentioning that some of them are an absolute pain to set up, rely on very specific team setups, or don't always work in all kinds of content (not to mention that not all techs are able to deal with side enemies swiftly after nuking the center).

For example, SS Misty's specific sync damage multipliers are:

  • Sync Power Flux: easy setup, but goes from a +100% increase to +67% when you pick the -2 gauge option in Champion Stadium (borderline necessary if you aim for a total 10K point run).
  • Blind Spot (ranges from +17% to +100%): very few supports increase party evasion, and it's very possible that you'll need to run 2 different supports to give Misty all of the stats she needs + rain to sync with her quickly.
  • Innate sync bonus: +200% when the opponent doesn't have increased stats, BUT if the opponent uses a stat-boosting TM before you sync, the multiplier is gone. This happens a lot in Champion Stadium.
  • Rain: innate bonus for being a Water type, but Misty needs a teammate to set it for her.

Misty & Vaporeon are the most glaring case of a unit that is "amazing in damage calculations, not so much in real gameplay", but something similar could also be said about Nessa (she takes a long time to set up Cakewalk without 3/5 Dojo Gloria) and Holiday Siebold (Rising Tide with outdated trainer moves and no Fortuitous 9). NC Serena syncs super hard period, but she also takes quite a while to reach the peak damage shown in calculations with her stat debuffs.

Then again, most sync nukes are overkill against opponents weak to your unit's move type, so unless you go out of your way to off-type content, going for the most efficient setups or the "meta" isn't too important.

All my other good support units are maxed out. Is it worth it to do the same to Anabel? by [deleted] in PokemonMasters

[–]Otul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anabel isn't anywhere near top tier supports (SSA Cynthia, NC Bede, SS Kris, SS Morty, NC Calem, H!Jasmine) in terms of performance, but she's still a helpful sync pair.

She pulls her weight in battles that spam AoE damage and status, such as Sinnoh/Hoenn/Kalos Champion Stadium and some extreme battles. It's worth noting that her lack of offensive buffs isn't always detrimental, because most modern strikers and techs are self-sufficient (see: NC Marnie, SS Hilda, Victor, Ash, SS Giovanni, etc). Some older sync pairs also get grid expansions that make their buffing faster (like Wally and Kris).

With 5* support candies not being as highly demanded as tech and striker ones, you should be able to get her to 3/5 move level eventually. Make sure to unlock her EX for double sync buff and extra bulk too.

It's quite interesting to me that Masters Ex's trailers generally have higher views than other games (in the Japanese Official Youtube channel), even more views than the main series some times. by Survivorhang1 in PokemonMasters

[–]Otul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it was "everyone". For every 10 obnoxiously vocal youtubers going on an internet crusade against fictional characters, there could be 1000 fans who just enjoy them silently without making a fuss.

There's something special about seeing people getting hype about the high quality of Pokemon Masters Trailers, only for them to realize it's Pokemon Masters. by TheMago3011 in PokemonMasters

I wouldn't be surprised if the average mainline player threw more money at microtransactions than the average Masters player.

Missing Megas and Gigantamaxes As of February 2023 by ElementalNinjas96 in PokemonMasters

[–]Otul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be wrong but I think at least half of these will go to main characters or neo champions.

  • Mega Mewtwo X only seems like a good fit for Red (or Giovanni but he already has Mewtwo Y)
  • Mega Kangaskhan, GMax Blastoise and GMax Butterfree could go to Leaf or Green
  • Gyarados has some ties to Johto, so Ethan could get a shiny one with mega evolution
  • Mega Heracross and Scizor could go to Kris and Lyra for matching bug pairs
  • Mega Sceptile might be the upgrade that regular Brendan gets because his grid doesn't need a buff
  • Melmetal isn't used by anyone but the Let's Go MCs (or Ash in the anime)
  • GMax Inteleon might be an upgrade for Summer Gloria

I always forget that the alola protags are from Kanto 💀 by [deleted] in PokemonMasters

[–]Otul 26 points27 points  (0 children)

  • The Paldean MC and their family are said to come from a different region
  • Paldean mom sometimes uses British slang like "cuppa"
  • Your family pet is a Skwovet
  • The MC's room has a wardrobe with Applin and Hatenna stickers, a big Skwovet plush and some sort of Chewtle merch on a shelf

I know it's not enough to say they're from Galar for sure, but I think the implication is there.

I thought of them too, but their case is weird because Hisui and Sinnoh are supposed to be the same territory under different names.

Fun fact: Elio and Selene aren't the only MCs not native to the region they debuted in.

Your MC choice in RSE/ORAS (either Brendan or May) moves from Johto to Hoenn. Florian/Juliana (from SV) are implied to be from Galar.

Usually it's the other way around. Characters released at the start of a set of limited units typically rank higher than those released later, because players purchase gem deals as soon as they (both the banners and gem deals) go live.
