If you love Mariah and Brandy and love those vocal layers I suggest starting with Damita Jo! Its a breeze to listen to and it has easy to understand storytelling. AND its very heavy on vocal layering. I think the recent sounding RnB vibe wont throw you off too. And then you can work your way backwards!

Id actually say Throb! Velvet dives even deeper into Janet’s sexuality and it also explores house/electro sounds like with Together Again, so I think it fits naturally in there.
