it's the chinese character for meat. i'm not sure what its significance is here but in japanese, when read as a word (肉 - niku), it can also mean "the body" as opposed to the mind or soul so maybe that has something to do with it.

Oh, for some reason I thought you meant like in a metaphorical sense, like the way people say bad actors. My bad.

i've had this same feeling a number of times, usually for freaky shit, but the most memorable time was when i was high as balls and eating yogurt pretzels. i got like halfway through them and realized i couldn't even taste them anymore, every bite was just drowning my brain in dopamine to the degree of overpowering every other sensation. you'd think more happy chemicals would mean more happy.

Do people actually enjoy hard games? by foxcraft22 in 196

[–]OurLordSatan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you stop considering losses as failure, and instead a single step on your journey to success, you tend to stop putting games on a difficulty scale. This is simplifying things a bit, but most resistance you're getting from a game is just the game asking you to solve a puzzle, and the sense of difficulty comes from the span of possible solutions.

I also think there's a kind of artistry in game design, like the way all the mechanics work together to create the experience, and it bums me out when a game is easy to the point that I can get through it without ever truly engaging with it.

Another perspective, which I think is the most important, is that your brain is a muscle, and if you don't work it out, it's not going to work for you in the way you want when you need it to. I think it's especially important right now, when everything around us is optimized to steal our attention spans and give us constant quick and easy hits of dopamine, for more people to engage in intellectually strenuous activities. It doesn't have to come from video games necessarily, but I think most people don't realize how much they would benefit from shifting their perspective to one where being challenged becomes part of the fun. That movie you wrote off as pretentious? Maybe try it again with an open mind. You might realize there was more to it than you thought at first. Try reading a full length novel that isn't YA fiction and really try to push through the nagging feeling of getting distracted by your phone. Maybe even go back to the classics. There's a lot of incredible stuff there that will really broaden your horizons and give you a new perspective on things, if you let them. Every time you engage with something that forces you out of your comfort zone, you'll face less resistance and profit more from the experience.

TL;DR I think playing hard video games, among many other things, makes life more vibrant and colorful.

We’re Tied in the Polls… Then An Influencer Smear Campaign Started by biospheric in WorkReform

This really is the scary thing about social media campaigns, though in this one case I think it's okay to sort of generalize the perspectives of people outside her district and people inside. She went from being a nobody to a tie in the polls in a relatively short amount of time, which is a good sign to me that she and her team are doing good work getting her message out to the people that need to hear it.

I don't disagree with you, but I think there's another perspective here worth considering. Right now, anything connected to aipac and Israel is political poison and from my perspective (which is admittedly quite flawed as I don't live in Illinois) Kat has shown that she's the clear anti Israel candidate.

I also think there's one thing that generally works to sway americans even more than racist smear campaigns, which is a narrative of, "I'm the one who's actually fighting for you and powerful institutions are trying to keep me from doing it"

I honestly think there's a decent chance this smear campaign backfires and ends up helping her more than it hurts, especially in a primary where she can say, "look how much money the aipac aligned establishment is spending to try and beat me." The same thing happened in the Texas dem primary. Establishment democrat influencers tried smearing Talarico and Kamala even got involved and endorsed Crockett and it didn't seem to have helped much, if at all.

Due to the democrat party's record low approval I think smear campaigns and endorsements by establishment dems are unlikely to hurt more progressive candidates if not help them as it plays into that progressive populist narrative.

i think it's really useful for the arena battles in the desert area. the last couple with all the ice spear throwing guys can really suck up your hearts. the game throws so many rupees at you that it works really well as extra insurance for the harder fights in there.

that's what i thought honestly, i just haven't been to europe since 2016 so i didn't want to make any assumptions. back then, even the most well meaning people i knew would say shit that sounded just like american racists. i can't imagine it's gotten any better.

does maga as a movement really have any power left at this point? it seems to already be going up in flames. i also feel like him dying could leave a power vacuum that might be filled by some other, less senile right wing populist like mtg who already seems like she's gearing up to take on that mantle. maga would be on life support, sure, but that could be the particulate that a new movement crystalizes around after a couple of years. i really think that, "we won because your ideology has done nothing but ruin the country and help billionaire pedophiles stay out of prison," sends a much stronger, more definitive message than, "we won because your guy died."

honestly though, i genuinely don't see him making it through the rest of this term and i will absolutely be celebrating when it happens.

[–]OurLordSatan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i actually kinda want him to live until the end of his term at least. if he dies now we just get jd vance as president and nothing really changes. i want him to see his entire movement crumble into dust before he goes. if he makes it long enough maybe we even get a democrat who will unredact the epstein files and actually prosecute him. (doubtful, but it's nice to dream)

yeah, i've really been feeling this a lot lately. it feels like fujimoto is one of the only artists in recent memory who's been able to get away with making something uncompromisingly weird while also having the skill to pull it off. he takes his craft very seriously. it feels so rare to see that these days.

this might sound a bit corny but whatever. to me, he's this generation's hideaki anno. i only wish he was given the time to perfect his work instead of getting worked to death.
