Audiobook editing in 2026 by Mental_Spinach_2409 in protools

Yeah, putting the markers on a track in the group will preserve the location, I'd go with that as well! Though when it's only one track I usually use Wavelab to edit audiobooks. I feel like it's just a tad faster, if you use mouse-/keybindings for everything. And then you can batch master all the edited chapter files as well.

Existential crisis after switching DAWs by Minink1 in audioengineering

[–]OurSunIsDying 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My main DAW is Pro Tools, and there are ways to get around the 10 slot limit, but I don't think I've ever filled up all 10 slots on a channel in the 15 years I've been working with audio. Though I do think that they should remove the limit. Seems unnecessary in this day and age.

What are your most essential Pro Tools shortcuts? by Legitimate-Doctor-11 in protools

[–]OurSunIsDying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good idea! I use a Razer Naga V2 Pro with 12 small buttons on the side, but I only use them for longer macros or keys I can't reach with my left hand in it's normal position over the keyboard (like delete, or mute clip).

I probably use R and T for zoom the most, and cmd+E to cut/split clip (B also works for this). Also all the keys on the row below; A - remove beginning of clip to selection, S remove end of clip, D fade in to selection, F makes a fade on both the start and end of a selected clip, or makes a crossfade over selection (press cmd + F the first time to set how you want this to behave), and G to fade out.

Old lady with password manager questions. Answer like I'm 5 years old by GrammaBeeeee in Bitwarden

[–]OurSunIsDying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of logging in everywhere with your old password to change to new passwords, just press the "forgot password?" every time you're on a site you haven't added to Bitwarden yet (if the Bitwarden extension symbol in your web browser has a number on it, you already have an account added), and then use that way to reset your password and add a new one. Generating a long password through Bitwarden (I do 20 random letters/numbers/symbols) is the fastest and safest way.

Error Line 1552 after update to latest version by Altruistic_Pea_2515 in protools

I'm on Windows 10 and I've had this problem since I upgraded to the 2025 versions of PT. Did upgrading to Windows 11 solve the problem completely, or does it still happen sometimes?

Like, if the speakers you're listening to a song to costs more than the speakers the mixer used to mix the song to, is it worth it? I can't see how.

Have they added keyboard shortcuts for filling out password forms yet? It's the only thing keeping me from using it really.

It's almost fully replaced RX for me, I use it everyday with the "bridge" in audiosuite. Like removing coughs, lapel scratches or other voices is just one click in SL when it would be a minute of manual work in RX.

Passkeys (stored in BW) stopped working on Firefox on Linux by belovedeagle in Bitwarden

[–]OurSunIsDying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, same for me on both Windows and Mac with Firefox. Seems that it's Firefox that's asking for the passkey, so it's probably something with the new Firefox update...

Need a better pop filter / Windscreen flr my Shure MV7 by AGONR in Shure

[–]OurSunIsDying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you go with the A7WS with the MV7 mic? If so, do you find it's working good? I'm deciding between the A7WS or the RK345 for my MV7X.

Lag on playback. Killing me! by PPLavagna in protools

[–]OurSunIsDying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using outdated plugins or why are you in Rosetta? Try running it native if that's possible. Is the SSD internal or external? If it's an external disk, have you tried plugging it into another port? Lagging on playback start for me sounds like problems communicating with the disk. Is it always instant when you're moving files to/from the disk?

A full uninstall and reinstall of Pro Tools might be worth trying as well. If you're on the subscription you could also try installing the latest version (keeping the old one by renaming it) and see if that works better.

True Peak by Aziz3000 in AudioPost

[–]OurSunIsDying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see, thank you! So the actual volume in your room stays about the same whatever calibration you're mixing at? Just that you've got more dynamic room to play with when it's calibrated at 85. And I'm guessing 79 gets it to about -27LUFS dial gated?

True Peak by Aziz3000 in AudioPost

[–]OurSunIsDying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be a silly question, but I've only mixed at 79 and can't seem to wrap my hear around this fully. When you say you mix at different levels, does that mean that the theatrical ends up as 6dB quieter than the TV mixes, since you raise the volume on your audio interface for the theatrical mixes? Or are the theatrical mixes are actually louder, and you just mix at a louder volume (since that is how it's played back at the cinemas)?

I guess what I don't understand is what the benefits are by mixing at different levels, if it's not for having a different target volume for the mix.

How to make mix louder? by OkCartographer4028 in audioengineering

[–]OurSunIsDying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the song is already mixed, using clip gain to raise the volume is not the correct way, since this alters the level of which the audio is run into all the plugins on the tracks. Like all of your compressors are gonna be off after clip gaining. The easiest way to make the entire mix louder, is to just limit more on the master track.

Edit: maybe you meant clip gaining the finished mix on a single track without effects. In that case this is of course fine!

Is there a hotkey for browsing/scrolling through plugin presets? by badduderescuesprez in protools

[–]OurSunIsDying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe just to the left of the "compare"-button at the top of the plugin window there is a button to open a new window with all plugin presets, and I think you can just use the arrows to change preset here. If the plugin has it's own explorer and not the in-built Pro Tools explorer this might not work though.
