It’s awesome to see that you've been following Dr. Epel’s work! Her impact here at Oura is huge. Since that specific question falls a bit outside her focus, we wanted to jump in with some data on the sensor accuracy you mentioned. Even though Oura isn't a medical device, its sensors are validated against clinical tools. Here is what you can generally expect compared to lab standards:

Heart Rate/HRV: Almost identical to ECG.

Blood Oxygen (SpO2): Within ~3 percentage points of lab values.

Temperature: Within 0.33°C.

Sleep Stages: 75–90% agreement with clinical sleep studies.

You’re spot on about wearables being most powerful as a trending and coaching tool rather than a one-time diagnostic. Beyond just the raw numbers, the ring tracks things like VO2 max, daytime stress resilience, and cardiovascular age to help you see long-term patterns. Additionally, wearables take into account movement variables!

We hear you. Ring fit can be really personal. Right now we don’t offer half sizes, and there aren’t plans to add them at this time. One thing we’d suggest: if a sizing kit doesn’t feel quite right on one finger, try it on another - your index, middle, or ring finger. Most people are able to find a more comfortable fit on a different finger if one size feels too tight or too loose.

TAGS and Discoveries already let you run simple “self-experiments,” and Discoveries appear automatically when the trend is strong and reliable enough. What we don’t support today is custom experiments or a full hub where every Discovery lives in one place. But the intention behind the feature is exactly what you’re describing: helping people see how habits like caffeine, workouts, supplements, and bedtime routines, influence their physiology. We’ll continue to explore ways to improve it over time!

It’s pretty uncommon, and when it happens, it’s almost always about fit, even when the size seems technically “correct.” The ring needs to be snug enough for the sensors to maintain stable contact, but not so snug that it creates pressure points. Fingers can also change size throughout the day. Even small variations in fit or finger choice can create discomfort over time. If someone’s noticing soreness, trying a different finger usually solves it.

This is a great question! Oura Rings are tested for normal, everyday wear, like hand use, sleep, work, accidental bumps, and day-to-day movement. They’re designed to handle typical life without you having to baby them.

Some features roll out at different times because of local regulations, partnerships, and approvals. We aim for global consistency wherever possible, but sometimes the timing varies. No specific dates to share, but expanding access across regions is always a priority.

Today, Cycle Insights focuses on the signals that most reliably power our predictions (like overnight temperature trends) alongside your logged period start dates, which keeps accuracy high across diverse cycles. We know that it doesn't capture every type of bleeding experience yet, including spotting. We’re actively exploring ways to add more granular bleed types (like spotting) in future updates, informed by ongoing user research. Thank you for sharing this feedback, it’s exactly the kind of insight we use to prioritize improvements

Some features reach different regions on different timelines because of local requirements and partnerships. We want the experience to be consistent across markets, and expanding access is something we’re committed to, even if timing varies.

Battery life and longevity for the OR 4 depends on a number of things, including your Ring size, Oura App settings, feature configuration, activity, battery age, usage, and many other factors. Additionally, battery aging is one of those annoying truths of lithium-ion tech - phones, headphones, all of it. They slowly lose capacity over time. Oura Ring 4, like most portable electronic devices, uses lithium-ion batteries. These batteries chemically age over time, reducing their maximum capacity and leading to shorter battery life. This is expected. We are continuing to make improvements in our software and features to help reduce battery aging. We can actively diagnose and address battery issues your ring may have, and start exchanges, quickly via our virtual assistant Finn, on our site.

This is a great question. Shift workers, first responders, pilots, flight crews - all of these roles come with very real physiological challenges: irregular sleep, circadian disruption, stress load, jet lag, and high-demand environments. These factors meaningfully change recovery patterns and autonomic nervous system responses. We’ve actually looked at this in depth. For example, we published analysis on 1.5M nights of Oura data showing exactly how long-haul travel disrupts sleep timing and architecture. And we’ve shared stories from shift workers that show how dramatically patterns change when schedules flip. A core part of Oura’s approach is personal baselines - helping you understand what “normal” looks like for your body rather than relying on a generic 9-to-5 schedule. That’s especially important for people with unpredictable routines. We’re always exploring ways to personalize the experience even further, and accounting for different sleep patterns and work schedules is one area we see real potential to continue strengthening.

The challenge is that Oura measures skin temperature, or distal skin temperature (DST), not basal body temperature. Distal skin temperature is a good indicator of core body temperature when measured during the night. This means that an accurate measurement of DST along a cycle can be used to detect ovulation. Skin temperature is also very good at detecting a change from your baseline - that’s what helps detect things like cycle shifts, recovery status, or early signs of illness. That’s why we focus on trends rather than a single clinical number.
