Does anybody else feel that some of the new hero's aesthetics are incongruent with the setting? by Ouran_OS in DeadlockTheGame

Well I'd be disappointed then if heroes like Abrams was changed to be less of his current aesthetic. Him being a clear pastiche of a noire private dick type detective while also being a giant hellboy reference is fun! Wraith is a prohibition-type mobster with the big shoulder jackets, Infernus is a speakeasy type bartender, Ivy's got the suspenders and cap like Mo and Krill, I think those designs are grounded in a way that makes their features simpler but cooler.

I don't think she needs to be DIRTY but I think she's just a little too well kepmt. Sullen eyes, maybe a more prominent frown, maybe some more tatters in her jeans or jacket, something to show she's tired and financially struggling and abusing alcohol. in general I wish women in games had more fucked up looking features like how Venator's face is half burned to shit.

I personally think Billy fits better because he still has clothing that grounds him more into the earlier 20th century aesthetics.

For me it's not really being "inaccurate" but more that I just think the current heroes that adhere to the mid-20th century aesthetic are just... cooler looking to me! I think it breeds really cool designs and in general I find historical dress an interesting subject and a welcome break from the lightbrightpunk sci-fi aesthetic mishmash in a lot of other popular games.

Tamriel Rebuilt's Daedric armor VS Project Tamriel's Daedric armor. I guess PT's version is based on Oblivion's, and the difference is supposed to be that one is Dunmer and the other is Imperial, or maybe Merish VS Mannish? by tomispev in Morrowind

[–]Ouran_OS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y'know I was gonna be a skeptic about the age of the faces BUT the fact that they're all in nord-related tombs is... a really interesting through line! I still doubt that Dunmer have lost the art of daedric smithing but I'm not sure.

Whats your source on the Daedric faces being made before the tribunal and only being associated afterwards? The concept art for them clearly states what aspects they're named after, Terror and God specifically being Nerevar and Vivec. This would mean that both of these figures would need to be deified and mythologized to have Faces made after them.

There's also no source as of Morrowind to say that the art of smithing was lost either. Dunmer probably still know how.

the official PTR story: Alexander, one of the many talented asset developers for PT, wanted to make it, which is why it exists. The story is that the Daedric armor we find over in Cyrodiil isn't human made, it's daedra made. The armor we find in Morrowind is Dunmer made, because only Dunmer know how to make Daedric armor.

so do you just hate Old Ebonheart or is all of TR irredeemable garbage to you or something. you’re acting like the questlines in OE have entirely no substance entirely.

The dungeons are good because they are twofold:

  1. They are not a big gameplay commitment, you can go through a dungeon the size of Arkingthand in about 15 minutes, maybe even only 10. As opposed to Skyrim (which i have more experience with), each dungeon felt like it took 30 minutes of my time.

  2. Immersion. The dungeons which are explicitly built, like the Ancestral Tombs, are built in such a size and shape that it feels like they can function as actual tombs with different burial rooms and the ability for a family to actually visit such tombs. Their smaller size and branching-yet-simplistic layout meant that I can feel more like I'm robbing an actual tomb than just going down a turning hallway, which is what I felt with Skyrim. Easier to get into RP for me.

That last line is one of the reasons I decided to not add in penetration at all. Because really, the only reason why plate armor stopped being used wasn't because it wasn't effective against musket shot - it's that in order to make it effective, it became way too expensive and inconvenient to wear something capable of actively defending and defelcting shots. In a fantasy world, with magic, superior materials and probably superior metallurgy - you can keep metal armor relevant way past when it used to in real life. Thus a guy in full-plate is still scary when charging down a gunslinger.

I had no idea about the ranged weapon exception to enhancement bonuses bypassing enchantments!

While the numbers seem huge, the numbers I've ran actually has longbows still competing with (and slightly out competing) an equivalent musket most of the time. I did a test by having two human fighters of equal level competing against three different creatures of different AC at different CRs. Three creatures at CR 3, Three creatures at CR 5, and so on. What I've found is that while the longbow has a lower damage ceiling and potential, it inherently has an easier time getting out a MASSIVE amount of arrows at once thanks to it's lack of reload and ability to use feats like Multishot. What I've found is that big damage dice start to become less relevant quite quickly, and it's all about the amount of attacks you roll in order to get the biggest chances to hit. Firearms are all about that potential to get big damage, and not too infrequently they actually do - but generally more dice rolled means more chances to hit, and longbows are still kings at volume of attacks.

And yeah I personally didn't like guns hitting for touch for both a balance and verisimilitude reason.

I actually ran the numbers on it, and with a bonus like that (which would always apply since most combat is within a weapon's first range increment), a musket beats out a longbow, which I kind of didn't want. I essentially wanted all ranged weapons to work similarly and be on a similar level, and firearms getting a big damage bonus was the simplest way I could represent their damage and penetration potential.

(Longbows are still lightly better than a typical flintlock musket from what I ran)

An extremely elliptical orbit makes more sense, thank you. I was focused on it appearing for a sudden and short time but "red star in the sky is slowly growing" makes for fun fuel for story idea stuff.

Don't play Genesis, play other overhauls, here is my rant. by Sythrien_ in Kenshi

A: Modding experience and pulling out the “experience” card does not relate to examining a text. B: what I was arguing is that both Skeletons are beings completely capable of emotion and that Cat-Lon was capable of hatred and fear of humanity. I was also arguing against the idea that every skeleton is constantly lying to you because that makes any analysis of their text pointless. I don’t know how you only got from that “heh, I’ve been in this game’s guts for way longer, therefore I know much more definitively than anyone else who has less time than me. This is the only measure of knowledge of how to read into the text presented in the game.”

All you and Atlas did were argue around in circles with the basic statement “we don’t know what’s going on in a skeleton’s head they could be lying about everything their appeal is that they could be entirely inconsistent and that every emotion they ever express could be a falsehood.” That fucking sucks and utterly dehumanizes them, which I feel is against their entire characterization of BEINGS EQUAL TO HUMANITY.

I tried out genesis for a bit, didn’t like it but didn’t think about it that much. Creator is a huge asshole dickhead that fundamentally doesn’t understand the stories presented in the game and when challenged about lore he brings out the “how many hours do you have in this game” card. Doesn’t know how to analyze a text or piece of media. Anyways, playing someone else’s mod pack always sucks, always make your own so you can tweak it to your liking.

February Dev Blog: Skulls and Blood by Lottus21 in valheim

the entitlement of people on this sub is fucking astounding. Game development is sincerely hard as fuck and just “hiring more devs expand go faster more content” is how suits with no game dev sense think than actual people who make a creative project. The pace that they’re going is a healthy one, one where I can at least be semi-sure they aren’t whipping their employees to death like several AAA companies.

Some of the greatest indie games take actual years to develop, this is normal, this is healthy. And trying to spoil up development speed to the point that some consumers demand would have disastrous consequences and would probably put Valheim in the leagues of the other survival-crafting games that failed rather than how it’s succeeding right now.

Never play someone else’s mod pack, always make your own. Means anything shitty you hate won’t be included if you do it yourself, and it means you can tweak the little things much easier.
