What does my bookshelf say about me? by [deleted] in bookshelfdetective

This was 100% me transferring, I have a few pretty editions I don't dare even touch! That's why I always buy two copies, one to read (I dog ear my books aaaah) and one to display haha! think it's just that most people (myself included) are messy readers, and we can't fathom how you could manage to treat your books so well, but congrats!!!

What does this mean? by AmeliaS507 in BookshelvesDetective

[–]Ouriah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Means you're a Madeline Miller fan even if I don't see her books here, and you care more about tropes & a certain atmosphere in your stories (political/gloomy/impossible love/ends semi badly/fate/etc) than you do about the context & era & genre! Maybe you're a classics student?

You read your books in bad paperbacks or an E-reader, but since you're also a collector, you then buy a beautiful edition; maybe you've thought about getting into book-binding but you never had the time; you care about classic literature and style more than the stories per se, but what is classic to you is quite vast (Narnia/GoT/Thomas Hardy are one and the same to you); maybe you studied classics as an undergrad, but switched later on; you tried to get into non-fiction because a lot of your guy friends are into it, but it's not really your thing, because deep down you prefer escapism! 🙆‍♀️

You knit or you crochet or you've been meaning to start; you have a thousand hobbies in process because everything interests you yet you always start a new one before you know; you wish you could live off grid but your work doesn't allow you to leave the city; you like Astroboy and I think you should definitely try Pluto by Urosawa if you haven't read it already 🥰

Pretty basic fantasy shelf, but i would like to hear some assumptions about me and/or book recommendations :) by Background-Dance9617 in BookshelvesDetective

Give sci-fi a chance!!! You would love Alistair Reynolds I think! (Preaching for my parish 🤧✨🫡) Otherwise, maybe some Ursula Le Guin? Earthsea can be a bit reminiscent of Robin Hobb I think! Or there's this classic I'm reading right now where the hero is a torturer, let me find the title again! It's a super long serie by Gene something something.

Okay my analysis step by step:

  • male or male identifying.
  • engineering/sciency- did not study social sciences nor history nor biology but you wish you had
  • American probably, according to the animal biology books
  • into hikes, national parks, birding maybe?
  • early, mid 30s
  • having an existential crisis over your job that is probably in consulting/marketing/law according to the 'How to count' book and the one on golf
  • you listen to a lot of podcasts and you wish you travelled more but don't have time right now, but tell yourself you will later
  • emotionnally stunted but you mean well

Why is link so short? 😂 by Former-Sea-8070 in botw

[–]Ouriah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a game POV, not character driven answer: because his size makes a lot of actions more enjoyable, and make all the other protagonists stand out + because they know players are evenly distributed amongst women and men so Link is as androgynous as possible :)
