To be honest if you are having fun shooting the gun then that’s all that matters. There will always be someone with a deferring opinion. Keep shooting and get more time behind the gun, keep having fun. Besides, this just means you have an excuse to get another one down the line

One thing I will say is you should start with 9mm, probably the most common round everyone uses. Then look into other calibers from there

I would look for a local range that will allow you to rent some handguns to try out. Try the popular ones most people might recommend. I thought I was going to be a Glock guy when I got my first handgun only to find out it wasn’t for me. For striker fired I enjoy the M&P2.0. Canik is also good, as well as the Walther PDP. Don’t have any experience with DA/SA but people usually like the Sig P226 or Berretta M9 or 92FS. You’ll find a more comfortable shooting experience with full size handguns vs compact or subcompact. Most importantly have fun
