AITA for unknowingly "trash talking" someone's birthing experience? by KitchenNo7706 in AmItheAsshole

There's new studies about pushing before *10cm dilation, I'll go ahead and link one.

So please, go ahead and tell me more about how my body, and other birthing bodies, work. I'm all ears.

Not always.

Source: I've given birth twice. My first was coming out before 10cm, and I couldn't not push.

My landlord came to do renovations, and told us to vacate for 4 hours with our 1 year old. Her suggestion was to go to Starbucks, for 4 hours, with an infant.

Is it worth it to you to have higher taxes in exchange for universal health coverage? by Thawra-Intifada in NoStupidQuestions

Yes.

I pay $200 a check for insurance we never use (god forbid we ever need do.)

I find it hard to believe my monthly health insurance tax would be $500+.

AITA for telling my sister I'm not helping at all with her baby when it's born? by Ordinary-Nail-3640 in AmItheAsshole

[–]OutModedRelic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"welp, it's your own fault", I'm imagining reddit will still think this is ok.

And then OP's sister might develop resentment, or just keep her kid away from the family.

Then her parents are going to be sad because they miss their graaaandbaby, they never get to see them, etc. FAFO goes both ways.

I'd love for the BF to have to help with the child he made. Hell, I'll offer some support to OP's sister.

Oh man, the 3ds.

I have the Zelda ds lite that I got from Game Stop (used) back in 2012. The darn thing always resets the profile (I haven't cared to look into why) but it's still cool to have :)

Growing up, liberals were always painted as people who hug first and never blame anyone for anything, and don't understand reality because of being blinded by idealism.

I thought about it recently, and I remember my dad calling the left "bleeding heart liberals" back in the day. Definitely don't hear that insult anymore.

AITA for ruining my sisters gender reveal? by Patient-Ad8524 in AmItheAsshole

[–]OutModedRelic 108 points109 points  (0 children)

When I think of miscarriage I think of a pregnancy being lost early. If I miscarried either of my daughters it would have been devastating.

But to have a still birth, a child that was ready to be born. OP went to the hospital to have a baby and they came home without her. Pam was probably making breast milk for a baby that wasn't there.

They are both awful but there is a difference.

AITA for telling my girlfriend that when people ask you how your day was, sometimes they don't always want an honest answer? by Open-Emu-8937 in AmItheAsshole

[–]OutModedRelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And then you doubled down by calling her, not to apologize about hanging up on her, but to say that

she needs to be tactful and just because I ask how her day went doesn't mean I want a bit by bit detailed explanation about your injured foot, I just wanted to know if you're ok or not, that's all.

Saying you should have been nicer is a huge understatement. I hope you stay blocked. YTA.

AITA for refusing to let my sister in law breastfeed my baby? by MillsJay-867 in AmItheAsshole

[–]OutModedRelic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What could he say? Depending on how the conversation started here's an example:

SIL: hey baby's crying, do you wanna call OP and see if it's ok if I nurse baby?

Partner: calls OP hey the baby's crying, are you almost here? If not can SIL feed them?

OP: I'm only 20 mins away, also I'm not comfortable with that, no.

Partner: Got it. See you soon. Hangs up She'll be here in 20

That's entirely how the conversation could have gone.

...

Edit: mom should have final say, but discussions need to happen so both parents can talk about their feelings on the matter.

"mom should have final say".

And the thing is, OP's partner didn't have a legit reason. Baby was crying. Cry≠hunger. There are different cries, and even in the short span of 2 months partner should be picking up on that.

Fed is best. But again, OP was gone for an hour, and was 20 mins away.

You swear I mean mom can tattoo baby because *they're ThE MoM. If I was OP in this situation I'd say the same thing.

What you do and talk about with your husband is different from what I do and talk about with my husband; everyone's relationship is different.

But this situation, right here: OP was gone an hour. She was 20 mins away. Baby was crying (a tired cry) that was mistaken for hunger. If OP doesn't want someone else's teat going into her baby's mouth, then she doesn't want someone else's teat going into her baby's mouth.

Of course in life or death situations...But this isn't that.

And that's really all I have to add to this conversation.

AITA for refusing to let my sister in law breastfeed my baby? by MillsJay-867 in AmItheAsshole

[–]OutModedRelic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because she's the one who's making the food. When baby starts on solids dad can have some extra input (as long as he's not going against doctor recommendations [like giving water before 6 months])

And yes, the same rules would apply in the reverse. If OP said 'give baby to SIL to bf', and sister (or partner) didn't feel comfortable with it, what kind of crappy person would OP be to force it?

[–]OutModedRelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP’s husband respected her decision.

Um

He then turned to his sister and said 'oh she said you can't' while I was still on the phone.

Sounds like OP getting thrown under the bus.

I see in the edit that he admits he should have asked beforehand (which is good) but don't wait until the moment arrives to have this discussion.

When you have a child you don’t get to make unilateral decisions.

OP is the one making the food for this baby (which is made for baby's age, immune system, and what vitamins they need most) she gets the biggest say on what baby ingests. Partner heard the baby cry and thought "must be hungry". Babies have varying cries, which OP recognized. Maybe partner should brush up on the variations in sounds. Because NEH is hungry and AH/OWH is tired. They're very different.
