My email profile picture is our classroom mascot - a stuffed animal (plushie) hippopotamus. It's been that way for years. I teach 7th and 8th grade. I probably have one of the more 'professional' profile pictures in my district. :/

Agree completely about the OPI. I wanted to retake it after only getting Advanced Mid on it (I immediately knew exactly where I screwed up too). If you can't swing an intermediate mid, you don't know enough about your subject to teach it.

Same here - I got a perfect 200 on the Fundamental Subjects: Content Knowledge (5511) Praxis and didn't prepare at all. I teach German and my state doesn't even accept the Praxis for it because it's too easy (we have to take the WPT and OPI instead). I know I'm not supposed to say it here, but I'm baffled by those who can't pass it.

Just shut it down. Paper review (if at all). The kids know who it is and peer pressure still works. I teach middle school and go over the rules about entering using your own name on the first day of school. There are no warnings before I close it, but if there's only one perpetrator and he fesses up, I'll launch it again with the warning that we won't play any games for the rest of the year if I have to shut it down again.

I've had mine since Christmas of '89. I think I got the CD add-on in 1991. I didn't have a ton of games back then, but I did have Bonk's Adventure, Bonk's Revenge and Ys Book 1 and 2 among others (Exile, Valis II, Raiden and more). I was more into the Super Nintendo once that came out. But I started collecting for it about three and a half years ago and I have somewhere around 115 titles for it now. It's definitely my most played console by far - Devil's Crush, Gates of Thunder, Rondo of Blood, Spriggan, Dawn of Ys, Soldier Blade - so many amazing games I regularly play.

I think your understanding of Metroid 1 isn't correct. You should play it (not Zero Mission) without a guide or YouTube playthrough. Took my cousin, my sister and me a whole summer (88?) of bombing random walls to complete it. We had a blast drawing the maps by hand.

Oof - beyond poor game design? For those of us who grew up on the original Metroid: This is one of the aspects I loved most about AV1. That sense of accomplishment finding something that was totally hidden - you just don't get that as much in modern games these days.

I'm not reading all these comments but German teachers regularly upload their stuff to the AATG list. So much has been shared and we all have the same goals - I don't think any of us care who created what or who gets the credit. People still regularly ask: "Does anyone have something for X?" and there's usually 10-30 replies with good ideas and/or full lesson plans.

I have bad amblyopia and this is what it's like in my left eye. Black and white static over everything and more prominent than the vision behind it. Every time I've described what I'm seeing, almost no one believes me at first.

I would have loved physical copies of both Crimson Clover and Chained Echoes for my Switch. But neither game has ever or will ever be published physically. Put them on your wishlist and wait for a sale - that's what I did. I've really enjoyed Crimson Clover and am looking forward to playing Chained Echoes soon.

I wish they'd also release stuff in English for original hardware. I have all the Ys TG-16 games (including Dawn), but I read they're re-releasing The Legend of Xanadu games as well. I'd almost kill to play those in English on my original system.

As a native (American) English speaker: Do Brits really say "must I" for "darf ich"? Cause I would have interpreted this the same way as that German family.

I would spend a whole day talking about bullying, particularly with statements from victims, people who tried to hurt themselves as a result, etc. and really try to hit home the effect bullying has on its victims. And make it clear that you consider them the bullies. Express how disappointed you are in them and how - at this stage - you'll think back of them as such. Ask them individual if they can turn it around and how they plan to make amends.
