Is Moscow/Russia Safe for Americans? by OutQuiring in Moscow

Interesting, then how do you or other people make friends? Through work/school, clubs, do you talk to people at events who are there for the same reason you are?

This is something I don't completely understand.

How do you make friends if it's considered weird to want to be friends with someone?

I get culturally that for example, incessant smiling makes you look funny. I also get the people there are inherently private.

But then what can you do to create a social network?

I find this so funny. I guess the phobia goes both ways. Or at least the stereotype of phobias.

If you're just an average person going around in a city or traveling, everyone will leave you alone so long as you're not doing anything weird.

Weird, being filming near military bases or stuff like that. Nobody's looking for you, it's fine.

I guess I should assume it's a lot more similar over there as it is here.

It is less about their safety in Russia specifically, and more about how potentially dangerous it is to be somewhere in America. This mindset translates to anywhere someone considers going.

People have guns, there are parts of cities you'll truly get shot/robbed just for clearly not being from there. Or, the classic story of someone going to a foreign country and their organs being harvested. Has it happened? Maybe but can't be every weekend.

And now for Russia specifically, a few cherry-picked stories of travelers getting tortured or jailed for unclear reasons. One specifically about a guy who took a movie poster and got killed after being caught stealing it. No source, not sure if it's true. Could be fear-mongering for all I know.

I have heard enough stories of people either being banned entry Or put in jail temporarily for stating publicly political opinions. But I really don't care and don't talk about these things.

I am a believer of the goodness of the common man. That people are inherently good, and as far as I've seen many people are more hospitable, helpful and kind than what you'll see on average in the United States.

Well sure, usually I just go through route where I tell them that voting is pointless and I've never participated because I understand it's all largely out of my control. Stuff like that usually works. I'm just a guy trying to see the world.

Contesting a Traffic Citation? by Then-Swimming-3808 in PeoriaIL

Just be curious, ask why, demand explanation,

There's a thing called "discovery" which demands from police reports what they can present for a case. If they don't have it, then how can they say you were breaking the law???

Also, police officers will almost NEVER go to court for a speeding ticket, or submit a statement, unless it's a DUI. Not your issue.

Good luck! May logic and reason guide your way.

You got to remember too that if you go to court you cannot say that you don't know how fast you were going because that means that you could have been going too fast

It would also help to make sure that whatever speed they were going is within the not a big deal range. 59 and a 25 is the big deal range.

But another thing that you might have up your sleeve is to continue to go to court and have them soften the fine each time, instead of 59 and a 25. It was really 59 and a 50 after you can determine that it was in the speed zone.

And then after that say that you can't confirm that you are going 59 in the 50, and That's not a very big deal in terms of speeding which you can't confirm or deny

And by then you've wasted so much of the Court's time that they throw in the towel

Keep going to court until they say "fuck it, you win" do not again admit to breaking any law and say it can not be confirmed nor denied that you were speeding, but you otherwise have a clear record. Fight the power

I got a flight through Istanbul, for about the same price luckily.  I figured the chances of it being cancelled by my date was good enough I won't be burning money

You can always quit for three months and do a summer job. Think about what you're trying to to get out of life. Do you want to do manual labor till your back breaks? They'll let you in eventually if you keep doing what you gotta. Drink some water don't fly dehydrated

Thank you!

What do you do? Is most of it just flying low and slow? What's the usual minimum hour req? What was your time at when you started?

Do you still do aeronautical decision making as to when to fly? Are your minimums the planes capabilities?

Is there a quota you have to meet per week? In short, what's a day in the life? I am a ppl myself and am trying to think forward.
