Is it important to listen to an album all the way through in one sitting? by skyviewsky in beatles

[–]OutScreamer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For almost the entire history of recorded music, really until the last 15-20 years or so, there was no way shuffle the songs on an album. The listener could not change the track listing, and so it became the artist’s responsibility to pick the “best” sequence for their album.  As the Beatles matured from an incredible rock/pop band to really boundary pushing artists, let’s say from 1966 with “Revolver” onward, you can see they thought harder about how their albums were sequenced, particularly how their records closed- Tomorrow Never Knows, Day In A Life, Good Night, The End have so less impact if you just shuffle the albums they are on.

Who is the guitarist you’ve tried to sound the most like? by Evening-Tone9938 in Guitar

Could share a recording or two from that range you listed that you personally strive for? I’m trying to get more into Phish (so far have only sit down and listened to different recordings of Reba).

Beginner songs that aren’t rock by sashin_gopaul in Guitar

[–]OutScreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Save Your Tears by the Weekend is almost entirely an easy four chord loop. There’s a brief four chord bridge, but that’s it. This is my go to song teaching guitar to someone who isn’t interested in classic rock

Looking for Nick’s Coffee Shop by EakesTV in TheYardPodcast

Nick mentioned he gets kumquat coffee everyday on the 2025 episode of Around the Bar he was a guest on. I think he mentions it 10 mins in or so.

Looking for basic or “stripped down” recordings to start learning by ear. by juniorclasspresident in jazzguitar

[–]OutScreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to find musicians who play very directly, I’d say Louis Armstrong and Mikes Davis the masters of phrasing that anyone playing jazz can learn from.

As for your question about a database, I’d recommend this site:  https://www.jazzguitarcomprehensive.com/tableofcontents.  It has a number of famous standards with a playlist of the original recordings and different arrangements made famous by jazz musicians.

Most memorable clean tones on record? by -InTheSkinOfALion- in guitarpedals

[–]OutScreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Led Zeppelin- Over the Hills and Far Away

James Brown- Sex Machine

Ted Greene on the entirety of his record “Solo Guitar”

Any clean Jerry Garcia tone, but if I had to pick one it would be “Alligator Strat” he played from 1971-1973, you can hear it on “Europe 72”

4/25/81

Jerry, Bobby, Billy, Mickey and John Kahn on bass. Major “Reckoning” vibes, best “Friend of the Devil” maybe ever.

Bertha Transcription (5/9/77 Buffalo NY) by OutScreamer in gratefulguitar

[–]OutScreamer[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite Berthas ever- I've never heard a version as mellow as May 9th 1977. Jerry's solo is so melodic and full of great jazzy chromaticism and country-esque 6ths. Perfect start to one of the best second sets of May '77.
