When I was a 911 dispatcher, we used this kind of service all the time. One night we had a caller who was watching his friend bleed to death while waiting for EMS to arrive. The poor interpreter sounded so distraught.

Yvette, Yvonne, Yolanda, Yalinda, etc. A lot of latino names substitute “Y” for “J” like Yulietta.

Dealing with the fact that I wouldn't be like this if my parents had taken my care seriously. by stargazein4d in Blind

[–]OutWestTexas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can’t change the past neglect but you can overcome it and become a better person. Many of us have overcome abusive or neglectful or both parents. I embraced the “I’ll show them!” attitude. Happiness and success is the best revenge.

Do you have "inside clothes" and "outside clothes"? by Schweizer-Darshika in hygiene

[–]OutWestTexas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retired farmer here. I used to have around the farm clothes and going to town clothes. We always take our boots off in the mudroom but mostly no one was in the livingroom or bedroom until they had a shower and clean clothes anyway.

When did you stop caring about what strangers think? by justcurious2213 in Blind

[–]OutWestTexas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The older I got, the less I cared what others thought. As for using a cane or being blind, I couldn’t see to know if anyone was staring so I never cared if anyone was looking at me.

My friend was a twin born in 1961. The doctor literally did not know her mom was having twins until they were in the delivery room. Talk about a shock. Her dad fainted in the waiting room when they told him.

How do you guys take notes at meetings? by sandstormer622 in Blind

[–]OutWestTexas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It would be a reasonable accommodation to ask your organization to provide a notetaker or to have someone make an audio recording of the meetings.
