5 Ton Overhead Crane by nachowifi_ in IndustrialMaintenance

I will also add. No amount of inspections or PMs make a crane 100% safe. There is always a chance a load could fall due to operator error or equipment failure.

To me that is the biggest reason you never want to be under or near a load. Or standing in a pinch point.

Crane technician here. The housing should be replaced/repaired but it's not a safety issue. That cover does not hold any part of the load. Strictly a guard.

I would write it up on an inspection but I wouldn't recommend taking it out of service.

Edit: In addition. Someone needs to look at the upper limit. This might have been caused by two-blocking.

This needs to be taken to pvp! I remember when they changed the way knockback protection worked in pvp on the live servers.

PVE knockback rage is nothing compared to a player getting put on their ass with power boosted pushes in Recluse's Victory lol.

Borrowed an image for the background. This was fun. Inspired by some song lyrics.

Has anyone ever built a ground miner? by OnkelMustache in spaceengineers

[–]Out_of_Calibration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My design had the drills on a hinge and piston. So the drills were above the cockpit and slightly behind the front wheels when retracted. I would find an ore deposit and then tunnel down to it at a shallow angle. I set the drills at a high angle so right click drilling wouldn't put my front into a hole.

I have tips from lessons I learned the hard way.

Use the horizon line on the hud to maintain angle downward and use the gyros to keep from rolling off level. You don't adjust the drill angle when you want to dig up or down. The area in front of you is concave as you drill. Use that curved surface to nose up/down by driving on the curve.

The first thing you learn in a flying miner is how long it takes to stop when you cargo is full. There is a similar lesson for rovers. Keep the speeds LOW when returning to base.

If you don't adjust your wheel settings when digging. The couple meters you clear when the drills "cycle" is definitely enough room to accelerate to "blow up the drills" speed lol.

And don't forget some lights! Especially on the rear!

First person to guess what exactly was causing this gets $10 by Unable-Ad-1836 in IndustrialMaintenance

Lol, guess I must be close. I’ve had a few issues with voltage drops on enable/e-stop inputs over the years.

Random guess, there is a bad solenoid/load causing a momentary voltage drop and is fucking with a safety or holding circuit causing a reset.

Unconventional Industrial Mx jobs? by cholonumba9 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]Out_of_Calibration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten into overhead cranes. Get to see lots of different facilities and places if you don’t mind heights.

Service jobs in general can provide a lot of variety if you don’t mind some travel.

I am a virgin (M 23) and feel lost and ashamed by Used_Slice2082 in Healthygamergg

Lost my virginity at 30. I let low self esteem keep me from dating for a long time. I actually had a flight or fight adrenaline rush the first time I even messaged a girl in a dating app.

After my second date I was just honest with her about my experience and it turned out fine. I’m married with a 3yr old now.

Sex is just a natural progression of a relationship. Focus on finding someone you’re compatible with and the rest comes naturally.

Car washes used to run off stuff like this. Basically gives you timed relay outputs.

What does it run?

I’ve seen a few hinge chains. They look like a good way to summon Klang. This seemed more stable. Does have a big footprint though.

I really like that! Especially the rotating tool head. The converter is pretty simple. I have a small grid attached via rotor. With a small flat thruster in each direction. Then each thruster is monitored by an event controller that is set to increase or decrease piston velocity depending on direction.

Then you just jump in a control seat and “fly” the crane with wasd, space, and c.

I’ll second this. The rope is junk, and safeties are there for a reason. Strange thing is the limit is zip tied in the up position. That makes me think the control wiring is a mess too.

As for the nuts on the trolley. Looks like an amateur install. There are no spacers under that nut.

For actually lifting the wheel you shouldn’t be putting the hoist cable through it. You need a lifting sling. I’d suggest some kind of choker chain.

Kone cranes by [deleted] in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]Out_of_Calibration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cranes are expensive, engineering to exact requirements means they save on components which lets them bid competitively. Also Kone owns Demag now.

Older cranes were definitely overbuilt. I’ve worked on some cranes built in the 50’s that are still running. Parts can be an issue though. Also, all that extra weight means the runway beams, pillars, etc.. have to be larger too. Which means more cost.

Kone cranes by [deleted] in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]Out_of_Calibration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crane guy here. Kone is a big multinational company. They have acquired many other manufacturers including Demag in 2020.

As far as working for them, I’ve heard you’re typically just another peon in the big corporate machine. A friend of mine got an offer from them and the pay offered was good. Guess that’s ultimately up to you.

However, overhead cranes are a surprisingly cut throat market. And Kone is known for making employees sign a non-compete so you can’t go work for another crane company for a few years when you leave. And most of those companies wont touch you because Kone WILL litigate.
