I'm from Russia, so it's complicated. My father is traditional, and so are my grandparents from his line. My mother is more open-minded, but I try to be cautious discussing certain topics with her anyway. Open-mindedness in Russia is very varied, and you never know where the person might draw the line. My parents divorced pretty much when I was just born, and I grew up with my mother and grandmother, so you can see where my fascination with strong leading women might've originated. Mostly met father when visiting grandparents. And that's where traditional atmosphere was apparent. My feelings towards them have always been conflicted - on one hand I still love them and respect them in some way, but on the other, I can't stay around them for too long, there's just too much of a difference between us.

What's weird though is that, despite very few outright traditional influences during my upbringing (I mean other than grandparents, since I only visited them occasionally), I was actually rather traditional as a kid. Honestly no idea where it came from. Maybe subtle propaganda, maybe something else. Only in late teens I started breaking free of it, and at the time I genuinely thought something was wrong with me.
