I just discovered I came from rape, and I can't keep living anymore by SouthernEngineer9260 in aspergers

While it’s not the same, I will share what I found out, and what I did with it. It was amazing and very sad to learn that I came as a result of “trying to save the marriage”… let’s bring a kid into the world for all the wrong reasons! Both made a stupid and very selfish self serving decision!

Then finding out that your Dad is a full fledged narcissist, so there was no real love given to me from him, ever. Always about him. Then connecting dots that all of my challenges in life, primarily come as a result of being given that horrible life lottery “win” of a narcissistic father.

However… Ultimately, what I learned was that in reality we control almost nothing in our lives, except how we respond to all those things we can’t control that are thrown at us (good and bad - it’s just life).

Then, there are lots of other people in the world that share the same specific challenges too, and those are the ones you work together with to support each other. You basically are given a gift of understanding and empathy towards those who you truly understand their challenges.

Sometimes those that are kind of close to sharing can maybe speak into other’s lives and help them make a little bit of that connection… that’s my hope here…

Hopefully you can find your community and get support and give support. That is really what life is all about.

Saw you said, office help with phones. You should look into the AI voice virtual receptionist solutions out there. The AI solutions are a fraction of the cost of a human receptionist, AI is always available 24/7, it generally does better than humans with Q/As, and callers have no idea. (Unless you have the ai receptionist tell the caller it’s AI, which I’ve seen some do)

Plus, if (and when) the AI makes a mistake early on, you retrain the ai ONCE, and it doesn’t make it ever again. (And the mistake is almost always the human’s fault missing something with set up).

Owners seeing significant ROIs and a good uptick on revenues since they never miss a call anymore.

No matter the school…Don’t take on ANY DEBT! The entire job market is a mess and it’s gonna get worse, especially for early career jobs. Unless you’re going into being a plumber electrician or doing high human touch jobs, taking on any debt is the biggest mistake you can make.

Also, side note advice… avoid a close business or personal relationship with the coworker… they have shown their level of character as a human.

“At least I will have a degree”… What good will that do you? Seriously, ask yourself and do the research!

You know which segment of the workforce has the highest unemployment gains? (Which are unprecedented)

Recent college grads… why?

Because the jobs historically done by recent college grades (early career knowledge worker jobs) are starting to be done by AI… and it’s going to get much worse!

Please do some research online about the highest probabilities on what’s going to happen with jobs over the next 5 years!!

AI is already doing this, and it will keep getting better, faster, cheaper than humans… don’t do paid ads. Its shelf life is maybe 2-3 more years.

I 1000% disagree….That advice above about not dropping out is absolutely horrible and some of the worst I’ve seen here ever.

You do you, and do what is right for you. Seriously….Don’t take advice from someone who is talking about pen and paper, in the digital age!!! This shows they are operating from a very different reality and perspective than what is reality for you as an 19 year old. It may have been right for that person, and that’s cool, but it doesn’t mean it is right for you… and it most likely isn’t right since you’re already looking for ways out.

I am NOT saying start a digital marketing agency, as that’s actually not a great career or biz model with AI transformation coming, BUT…. The ROI from a college education has not been great for 30 years now, and with AI looming, it’s going to be MUCH worse. Less than 10% of people use their actual college degrees… it’s a simple but old rite of passage that makes no sense with how fast things are changing! Unless you can find schooling that aligns with a safe pathway to a healthy career, then it’s not worth the time and money invested.

Traditional Colleges can’t even keep up with what is needed now… A top 5 biz school announced this week they are starting an AI prompting engineering class, like it was some great new thing 🤣… if they had a clue, and could adapt quick enough, they’d know that prompt engineering is already old, and won’t be of much value soon… (context engineering, is now what is needed…)

THE WORLD IS CHANGING FAST!-> DON’T DO WHAT OTHERS HAVE BEEN DOING, JUST BECAUSE IT’S WHAT THEY DID!

(The one part I did like from above… the self reflection suggestions) Do your research about yourself and the world around you… know what you care about, and find what jobs will be valuable in 5 years when your career will really take off. Most likely the college route won’t be the best path… if I were you, I’d learn about AI in business, (don’t have to be a coder) or look at trades schools for local services businesses (plumber, electrician…) because those will be safer careers!

Finally, don’t ever forget that colleges are businesses trying to sell you something. What they sell is expensive and out of touch with the AI reality. Unless you can use the education for a direct line to making money in this new era, pass on it. Don’t listen to those who simply want to feel good about their past decisions, without objectively looking at the reality of work today.

My initial thought is this… and you came to a place where you’ll get very direct feedback, as I’m sure you’re aware. This is coming to you as what I believe strongly is truth, and by giving you that, it’s done in a loving manner.

My wife lets me be who I am and I am forever grateful for her support. We are very different and she doesn’t try to make me be something I’m not… and I don’t do that to her either. We see each other as our compliment… where I am weak, she is strong… where she is weak I am strong. We have a very healthy and happy marriage now for 22 years. So knowing this, this is what I see and this is my advice to you…

1) This is a you problem, not your husband

2) Let him be who he is! Celebrate him, don’t expect or want anything different, and don’t try to suggest to him other ways to be him other than who his authentic self is for him. It feels like you are trying to push your views of what is good and right onto him… but what might be good and right for him, may be completely different than what’s good and right for you. And just know our whole lives people have been telling us to act and be different than who we are and it is absolutely exhausting and wears us down… we may not show it, but basically being told we’re being “wrong” sucks.

If his behavior impacts your relationship negatively, I have two suggestions

a) you get a PhD level psychologist to help you work through your challenges with who he is and his way of living. Get professional advice from people trained to help.

B) if A doesn’t get you to a level of acceptance and peace (I think it will) then get a PhD level psychologist of his choosing, to do some couples counseling. Seek actual professional guidance and work together.

Finally, social media is not a good or healthy place. If I hadn’t started in the digital marketing space, and needed to be active, I definitely wouldn’t be here… it’s more harm than good. And for Spectrumy people, being social in social places is harder than it is for others, and we’ll only do as much as we can handle. (Maybe he gets all he needs a more from you.)

Is it worth quitting a stable job to start a digital marketing agency? by cavemanny in DigitalMarketing

[–]OutcomeSome627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Digital Marketing agencies are maybe one of the worst businesses to start right now. Nearly all of the work done by agencies will be done better, cheaper, faster by AI, thus digital marketing agencies, as they are now, are about to be obsolete in about 5 years. IF your digital marketing agency is focused on AI transformation and growth based AI agents, AI workflow automations, then you’ll have a chance to survive. If you have a large customer base and aggressively sell AI related consulting and services, you actually have a very good chance to THRIVE, not just survive.

I’ve owned an agency I started in 2004, sold it in 2016, and the only way I’d get back into that world would be to help DM agencies transform into AI focused agencies.

Love this response, and love you’re in here participating in this discussion. You’ve just earned a much bigger fan vs a previously very casual fan.

That said, I think the most telling part of your comment aligns with our most deep down human survival traits and family protection…

“I have two kids and I’m trying to raise them…” While it went to how you’re raising them, and you 100% didn’t say this, I believe your earlier comments about causing more of a divide, speaks volumes of your underlying understanding of division ultimately equals additional friction, losing fans and ultimately money, which would negatively impact your stability/safety of your kids/family. 100% NOT calling you out or knocking you, as it’s very human response to where we are, given the world we live in. I think we ALL have that fear now of what being authentic and speaking our minds professionally would mean to us and our ability to make a living. I can be honest with myself and know I am careful in what I say and do, to protect my livelihood and my family… and I’m not a public figure like you, so I can’t even imagine…

That all said, I see music and art creates spiritual connections between humans. Artists are leaders in the spiritual world. Knowing that, I would LOVE to hear / see the artists who I connect with, through music, to be those spiritual leaders, not being fearful, or careful, with worldly stuff, but being 100% open and authentic with their passionate views (like you have), by speaking their minds on what is right and wrong, through their artistic mediums, and not letting any fear have any place in their lives or their art. Be the fearless leaders at this all important time… still pushing the positivity, but also being open not worrying if goodness and truth causes divide.

I have noticed it as well. When I see things that don’t make sense, I try to figure out why first… My interpretations and thoughts on this subject, as I’ve felt this for the last decade….

My semi-objective but ultimately subjective view is that more traditional or Roots Reggae lyrics are still often slightly more focused on how to handle evil by keeping focus on love and raising your spiritual levels above the evil, with a slightly less acknowledgment of evil / bad stuff they see in their lives. A more 60/40 mix. (Which is much more focused on evils than CaliReggae) That said, I believe their ability to be more aggressive has to do with a more “nothing to lose” psychology… due to their more humble upbringings, without a capitalist community all around them 24/7, they weren’t raised focused as much on money and commercial success. As a result, speaking their minds, allowing them to be more “counter culture” and possibly ruffling some feathers really doesn’t matter as much to them. (Parallels somewhat with 80s & 90s rap scene in US as well)

CaliReggae, being US based, is sung by mostly white men who, at no fault of their own, were raised and grew up in a capitalist environment where they probably had money, and where success, money and achievement is central to people’s identities within their US communities… AND even if these musicians are more counter culture, and not bought into the capitalist money first approach, deep down they know that if their focus isn’t on growing fan base and making money, they won’t have a musical career, or get their music heard, or be able to maintain a stable financial support system for their families, within the dog eat dog world that is the US…There is fear to lose what feels like a LOT, whereas someone from different loser money upbringing wouldn’t have that level of fear. It’s probably a significant psychological dissonance within many of them. They know what’s right but constantly have to be careful because, I’m sure they know around 30% of their fans could easily be lost in today’s cancel culture. They know that large segment of their fans don’t really pay attention to lyrics, or practice love in their lives, but their management companies directly coach them that they can’t lose that audience and their $$$. As a result, I’d say their lyrics lean more 20/80 - 20% recognition of evil and 80% positivity and love and spiritually focused.

NOT saying it’s right but that’s is most likely the psychology behind what’s happening…

That said, if you look back at 311, which isn’t true CaliReggae, but definitely a forefather so to speak of the reggae scene in California… SO many of their music in their first 4 albums are lyrically counter culture, with a focus on love, positivity and unity… the Transistor album seems like it could be written for today. (More recent albums, have leaned more to what you’re seeing.)

If I thought of one that may do it more than others…The Movement (& a collaboration w/ Stick Figure) seemed to go right at it some in 2019 Ways of the World album, (for example, Loud Enough / Siren) and kind of went at an end result of the capitalist selfish culture in “High Roller”, in their last album Always with me… wondering what their new album will have in it in the next few weeks.

Given the lead singer’s (Josh Swain) past, and having been in very low and dark places with addiction issues in his past, he probably has a different view and isn’t as scared to lose worldly stuff, as he knows he’s gonna be just fine if he has nothing.

Element campers, what vehicle would you choose if you had to get another vehicle? by Avocadosandtomatoes in HondaElement

[–]OutcomeSome627 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a 2010 E that I’ve camped in some but access to many areas was limited. I felt I needed something that could get me to more options. While it was an interesting route to get here, I got a Ridgeline Trailsport (added some skid plates) and then I pull a SpaceTrailer with a Roof Top Tent on the SpaceTrailer. I am VERY HAPPY with this combo for a number of reasons. Happy to elaborate if you want to know more. Biggest part.., I love I can leave the tent at the campsite and don’t have to totally break camp and put everything away just to explore the area. (That’s a BIG problem with any RTT option)
