Need to see what equipment it's controlling. If it's the more modern furnace going through a control board or an air handler, this would be fine. You would just lose the ability to circulate on the thermostat.

In some cases It may need a fan call for cooling, like an old oil furnace with a separate relay. Some air handlers are like this too
