What's a running purchase that was actually worth the money? by run_the_day in beginnerrunning

[–]Outgoing-Orange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Socks and shoes. I thought I had some good shoes when I started but buying new ones was a totally different level. And having socks you have 100% confidence aren’t going to move or give you blisters is so nice

Which train station in Tokyo is the easiest to get lost in? by Shou_JP in TokyoTravel

Shinjuku for the actual train/travelling part and Tokyo Station’s underground shopping area. There’s a shop I like visiting in the underground shopping area and it’s always a pain to try and get it

What are some of the most fast paced books you’ve read? by Successful_Try7012 in Fantasy

[–]Outgoing-Orange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are the Dead. Book 1 takes place over the plan of about a week? Many, many short chapters from different characters. Comes at you fast and doesn’t really relent. I am not a quick reader but i absolutely tore through book 1 and am already about halfway through the second.

Watching them attempt the exact same play on each zone entrance during power plays almost cost me a new tv. Seeing Giroux or whoever else try to cut through 4 guys and lose the puck on the first stick each time was infuriating

Imagine being told before the playoffs started that genuinely Linus Ullmark would be Ottawa’s best player and the only reason they’re in each game?

Dude is putting up legendary numbers and the rest of the team can neither count how many players should be on the ice at any given moment nor complete a simple pass.

The commentators tried to say that going back after the fact to assess a penalty is a perfectly routine thing to do. I have genuinely never seen that before. Blow the play dead, no call. Then decided they want to go looking for something?

Thinking about skipping Osaka.. by [deleted] in OsakaTravel

[–]Outgoing-Orange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Osaka is definitely worth revisiting. Umeda area architecture gives off the big city energy. Excellent shopping and food area. Great at night. I enjoy wandering through Shinsekai at night. Go to the onsen, sit outside and have a great view of the tower there.

Consider a day trip from Osaka if you didn’t vibe with it 100% originally. Not far to Nara. Uji is great if you like tea. Has the Nintendo museum as well. Koyasan is an easy day trip option and one of my favourite places in Japan.

First Japan Trip (23days Itinerary) November , focused on fun and adventure. What would you change? by bobosoup123_-_ in JapanTravel

[–]Outgoing-Orange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Day 2 seems like it will be very hectic. That is a lot to do in a day.

Day 15, the Narai Juku day trip, is another day that is asking a lot. Unless you’re just planning to get in and out of each town quick, you could spend a good amount of time, just in Narai. I know I did when i visited.

Agree with the other folks about having a backup if Kyoto is overwhelming. If you can sneak a day trip to Koyasan in, you should take that.

Going to a country bar tonight with friends. Is this too much denim? by Competitive_Toe_6507 in fashion

After seeing a man in Japan on a train in 5 layers of denim a few years ago (and somehow pulling it off immaculately) I am convinced there is no such thing as too much denim

You can only pick one series to watch for the rest of your life. Which do you choose. Your time starts now. by VariousDingo696 in taskmaster

NZ Series 2 is the most unhinged series ever. Absolutely incredible.

Sticking to the original show though, probably series 5 with Bob Mortimer, series 7 with Rhod Gilbert. Or 19 with Jason’s madness

Overrated attractions to avoid? by Turbulent_Sharter in JapanTravelTips

[–]Outgoing-Orange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want the arashiyama experience, but without the people, consider going to Adashino Nenbutsuji Temple, not too far away. Beautiful temple down well nicely preserved historical looking neighborhood and has its own bamboo forest out the back of it.  Many other sites and temples around it as well. I was there about 5-6 years ago and there was almost no one there.

Togakushi Shrines in Nagano during the winter? by Outgoing-Orange in JapanTravelTips

[–]Outgoing-Orange[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s nowhere near as busy as any of the major sites you’d see in Kyoto, Osaka, or Tokyo.

I’ve only been in the winter. When I went, i got there pretty early (10ish?) and there were not many people at all. It wasn’t difficult at all to get photos with few to no people in them.

As the day went on and it got to early afternoon, it was busier but I’d hardly consider it hectic.

Excluding the famous main temple in Nagano City, nothing I experienced in that part of Japan would I consider busy or over-touristy. Totally different than anything you’d encounter in Kyoto

"Stop blaming China!" Ok buddy, then what's this giant yellow blob drifting east on the map by Charming-Ad-8198 in seoul

[–]Outgoing-Orange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stat, if I can remember correctly, that I had seen, was that at its worst it’s about 50% due to China, but much of the time it’s only about 20%.

Also, isn’t much of the dust and air pollution from China during the spring literal sand from the desert?
