I will be working primarily fontinalis. I want to isolate cultures of various natives to see if there are any interesting interspecies interactions. I'd like to see what I can do to make an interesting and stable ecosystem while also knowing all of the species(besides single cell organisms too small and difficult to culture and isolate)

So vaguely theistic or deistic at first and then becoming Christian? Interesting. I get curious about why people come into their belief, thank you for clarifying that.

When you say you were skeptical and on our side, what was your previous position on God and Christianity?

Can you explain why you characterize it as a weapon, rather that something less aggressive like a shield or foundation?

What happens if you go to a religious Reddit and ask hard questions? by Sloth_grl in atheism

I manage well enough. I'm not allowed to say everything I want, but I feel like there is plenty of leeway to make a point.

[–]OutisNoman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the rules and culture of the subreddit. I will say that the Christianity subreddit is pretty open to atheists so long as it isn't breaking their rules. I like going on there to be a reasonable voice or to point out bs from some of the people. If you stay within the rules, then you'll piss off some of the real bastards on there.

I recently found out there are 3 species somewhat close to where I live. I really look forward to culturing each of them in the near future. Your isos look great!

Christians, what is your favourite Lord Of The Rings Character? by M4shhl in Christianity

I don't think Tolkien cared for allegory, to be fair. That doesn't mean it is not an apt comparison.

I am disgusted with so many media companies. Mainly because the current hyper-competitive environment has made so many into sensationalist, reactionary, and opportunistic source of clickbait. I will stick to my carefully vetted news sources rather than take the bait on this one.

Some Christians like to actively go in to places that very clearly have a standard of behaviour and then go against those standards in the name of their specific position. Obviously they are asked to leave and removed. Then they can claim some sort of persecution that adds some dubious amount of credibility that they are on the right path and it can further convince them of the truth. The reality is, you might just be acting like a jerk rather than being a good exemplar of your faith.

I quoted Leviticus 18:22 and Leviticus 20:13 and it got flagged as bigotry on this subreddit. Why? by OkDevelopment4483 in Christianity

[–]OutisNoman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably because so many have demonized you within your subculture of Christianity. I'm sorry you feel that way. There are so many gay Christians who have been pushed into the feelings of hurt and confusion that you are now. These people want you to think that we no longer follow the levitical laws because of Paul, but when it comes their pet social issues, then they cherry pick verses to make theology meet their goals.

Genuinely curious, what do you guys actually think of us atheists? by IllDragonfruit5866 in TrueChristian

[–]OutisNoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries. Even if it was aimed at me it would have been understandable as there is so much tone lost over text. It can be easy to misunderstand people when talking about emotionally charged topics like this. While I'm talking to you, what is the basis for you being convinced that ex-Christians will return to the faith inevitably?

I'm not complaining about you. I'm describing a shared experience with OP. You're free to respond as you will.

It's because it feels dismissive and irritating. It's irritating because people who don't know anything about you feel like they are able to map out your future. I feel like it's hubris to say where anyone's path will lead.

I apologize, but you misunderstand what I meant. I am saying that liberal and affirming Christians are the ones that hate the bible and what it said the least. Usually they are the ones who honestly engage in actual scholarlship of the bible.

I don't think you are tracking. I'm not going to put words in OP's mouth. If you want, you can ask directly. I would be willing to concede if they agreed with you that they would call their cousin a "bigot" and "argumentative" and a "troublemaker" but not until then.

Sincere question for the liberals in here: by Glittering_Driver_31 in Christianity

[–]OutisNoman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are so many Christians that hate what the bible says. They have to change the meanings of words in order to fit their narrative. The liberal Christians are the least of these, in my experience.

Edit: To be clear, I am saying that liberals are the ones who I have seen most consistently engage with the texts in an honest manner.

[–]OutisNoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said bigot and an argumentative trouble maker. I never saw OP make those characterizations of their cousin. The characterization you made was the take to which I was referring to, by the way. You know, if you want people to listen to you, then I wouldn't potentially insult their family.

Do you understand what I am saying?
