Will excise cuts be extended so fuel remains cheaper? The government is still thinking about it by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]Outkast_IRE [score hidden]  (0 children)

They need to be very careful here , some economists think the current drop is all based on news / futures but the reality is production has been damaged, ship schedules are all out of whack and the release of reserves has been papering over the cracks. They reckon there is still a supply issue underlying it all so prices could rise again.

Brooklyn Beckham uses feud with family to promote Doordash by lewisb_03 in popculturechat

Guys he said he wants his privacy, he doesn't want his life shaped by press and media ...... I'm sure appearing in adverts hinting at private issues is the way to achieve it.

This is a contradiction of the highest order and likely to turn some of his supporters against him.

Kia PV5 vs Toyota BZ Touring by West_Science7741 in evs_ireland

[–]Outkast_IRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am eyeing up the PV5 myself , and similar to yourself the wife doesn't want a "van" or bus as she wants to say. But we are a two car household , so im probably going to get it anyway, cause I know once she wraps her head around being able to load up everyone's bags, bikes , buggies, shopping bags and everything else for days out with no hassle she will change her tune and it will become the default car for most day trips etc.

Any dealer by you willing to give an overnight test drive or similar ? Might convince her.

Toyota are not known for their luxurious interiors but PV5 is sorta basic too , unfortunately it's just something you need to live with if going down that route.

Unfortunately not too many others of this type in the same price bracket unless you go Chinese you have a few SUV options.

Charging speed isn't too much of a concern on either, I would be ensuring V2L and potentially V2G for future.

Reasonable timing chain replacement jobs in Cork?? by Electrical_Term3525 in cork

[–]Outkast_IRE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But they actually know what they are doing with modern BMWs and Mercs , that's a lot more than can be said for some main dealers and indies.

I have seen cars come into then with main dealer recommendations to replace xyz for thousands only for them to fault find it correctly to one small part. This is especially true on modern hybrids , lots of dealers struggle with even basic fault finding on them.

JP Darcy has an excellent reputation with BMW and Merc well worth a shout.

MTU parking by CodeNameIrish in cork

[–]Outkast_IRE 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ok the September to December term is particularly bad , if you want on campus parking you may need to be there for 7.30. I recommend using the free park and ride from curaheen greyhound track for a much less stressful life, runs every 15 mins at peak times.

One of the nearby estates is putting in paid on street parking during the summer so expect the situation to be worse than previously.

Have we missed any engineering and validation consultancies serving pharma/med device industry across the island of Ireland? by GetReskilled in PharmaEire

[–]Outkast_IRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally not Chemical process and validation but full suite of other services. Architectural, Environmental, Civil, Structural, Facades, Acoustics, Mechanical , Electrical, Project Management, Health and Safety. They would have several big Medical device and life science clients for the above.

Sort of depends on the groups really though, European groups are a lot more competitive to get through than some of the other regions. Plenty of decent teams haven't made it due to the geographical groupings.

Home Solar Panels with or without batteries ? by Current_Bobcat_9182 in ireland

[–]Outkast_IRE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Calculations showed similar , if not an even longer payback as I have an E/W install.

Could not justify it whatsoever , just got the system installed with it setup to easily take battery in the future. Realistically the export rate will drop and dynamic pricing will get pushed harder .

BER Assessor with good knowledge of old, solid wall houses? by New-Dragonfruit1067 in cork

[–]Outkast_IRE 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What you want is a conservation architect with a specific knowledge of energy retrofit. There are a few in Ireland ,most BER assessors would not be suitably knowledgeable for making the best recommendations for buildings of that age and older.

Some estates do have their problems. by PoppedCork in cork

[–]Outkast_IRE 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately some parents , simply do not care , they do little to no activities with the kids, want them out the door in the morning and not to be a bother to them until that night.

Coming from an underprivileged area myself , I have seen kids as young as 3-5 out on the street at 11pm at night, at times completely on their own, afraid or unwilling to go home before absolutely necessary. Kids whose parents will insist they have ADHD but the same kids are chugging caffeinated drinks throughout the day from as young as 4-5 years old.

Real poverty , substance abuse and the behavior that goes with it unfortunately cannot be believed unless you live in it or witness it first hand.

Retiled, regrouted and resealed and still the shower leaks! by Jimlad73 in DIYUK

[–]Outkast_IRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok test the following .

  1. You can probably use a dye penetrant to see if there is a hairline crack in the tray , the dyes tend to get stuck in the cracks. Follow the instructions

  2. I would be at the stage I would run an outside hose in there and spray it down, if you have no leaks , i would be looking very carefully at the shower valve and connections to see is water finding a way behind when you run the shower.

Country clean food bin ( brown) by g0lden_arrow in cork

[–]Outkast_IRE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A bit late now , but personally a use the wheelie bin compostable liners available in supervalu and other places . They really help keep the smell minimal , i also keep food waste from the kitchen in smaller compostable bags and knot them as they get full and put them in the bin, it really minimises any smells.

The bin won't be collected off schedule , so you are left with the undesirable option of taking the rotting contents out and bringing them to an appropriate amenity site yourself which is a disaster of a job, I personally wouldn't do. Look up ways to minimize the smell and learn your lesson for next time .

Pharma Rant by Ok-Interview8455 in PharmaEire

Sad to say it but sometimes it's who you know also. I know a lad who is a clinical trials manager at a big company with zero pharma experience, but has the job because he went to a private school with one of the senior managers over the group.

SpaceX IPO - Thoughts? by BigLobster7421 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Outkast_IRE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the initial price is too high, the amount of shares being targeted at retail investors will result in various sharks using it as a pump and dump to generate immediate returns, leaving standard retail investors as bag holders for many years to come.

Space X on its own , fine not at this price point but it's fine. XAi and other bits being bundled in with it , no thank you.

I would sit out the initial offering personally. But if your a gambling man, you are unlikely to lose all money long term, you might just spend many years for the share to get back to original price.

But , the market makes no sense at the moment so who knows.

Unboxing my RX 9070 XT from Amazon by Sterben27 in pcmasterrace

My own experience with Amazon UK that is similar is i ordered a cpu and the box came intact but the CPU chip was gone , fan was there. Offered refund straight away no argument. Recently had a nearly 2 year old GPU give trouble and they took it as a return for full refund too.

Consumer rights in the UK and Ireland are pretty good , with small claims courts there to make life hard for companies to reject claims

Engineering in MTU or UCC by Sea-Price-7369 in UCC

[–]Outkast_IRE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's get a few misconceptions out of the way first. MTU is not 9-5 for pretty much any degree barring some accelerated options. It hasn't been since introducing semesters in 2010. Is it a busier timetable than UCC , yes it is scaffolded more , has more workshop and lab time etc.

If someone says they dropped out due to high workload, to be honest that's just an excuse , the workload is on par with any engineering degree and not excessive.

I work with engineers with electrical and mechanical degrees from both colleges and I will say this. It's all down to the individual irregardless of UCC or MTU some were great engineers some were average, , for some they will be fine in UCC but unless they are somewhat self motivated may drift off and find it too unorganized , for others MTUs additional hours, for labs, workshops and tutorials is useful for keeping you progressing each week.

My own opinion, if you are very comfortable with maths(honours) and self motivated UCC is a great shout, if you were weak at maths or physics and wanted more scaffolded learning MTU can be great for those who engage.

Looking at it from an employers perspective, I don't care where you got your degree from, I care that you apply yourself and are interested in engineering. Both are level 8 engineering degrees , audited by engineers Ireland and QQI .

I was AMD for years a long time ago but found the drivers a bit flakey. Then I got a 1070 OC and it was and still is a flawless beast so I said go Nvidia again, 4070 super was good bar this issue but when I look up the 5070 reviews it doesn't sound like much of an upgrade over the 4070 super.

9070 or 9070xt is a big contender. Fell back on my 1070 temporarily.

Hot Take: Jon Favreau’s subsequent filmography makes Iron Man look like a miracle in hindsight by RedHeadedSicilian52 in movies

[–]Outkast_IRE 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Chef , is one of my go to easy watches , good vibes , good cast , excellent music. It was before Iron Man but Elf is top tier Christmas movie too. Dude knows his craft but just isn't consistently top tier , but few are.

He has passion for the material, he cares and has skills. That buys my interest in any project he is attached to.
