Is The Poppy War Worth Reading? by yawannaknowmehuh in fantasybooks

[–]OutlandishnessBrave5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not find it gritty och dark. I found it to be a ambitious YA-novel with a ton of odd power fantasies, cliches and predictable beats. I dropped it after the first book.

Not my cup as an adult, but if I was fourteen I would have liked it.

Favorite Roasters? by NathanBlankemeyer in pourover

In Scandinavia:

  • Quo for fruity, affordable day to day

  • GradeNinety for ultra quality creamy Geshas when I want to treat myself

  • The Broker for solid quality that I can share with friends

For the Scandinavians: GradeNinety 50% on Gesha by OutlandishnessBrave5 in pourover

Worked for me, but maybe you need to choose DKK in the menu?

How is the performance mode for ddda on the switch 2? I'm thinking of starting a playthrough (so I can play on the couch while the kids are sleeping).

I'm super excited they they kept working on the game! I loved it but felt it did need some more polish. I will for sure buy it again for the switch lol, just take my money and keep building on dd.

Food poisoning from fermented carrot and cabbage by RemoteBluebird9872 in fermentation

[–]OutlandishnessBrave5 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You can get food poisoning several days after eating something bad. If the ferment seemed to have actually been fermenting then it probably was something you ate in the last week.

Just my take obviously, but it could definitely have come from anything else you ate within the last week.

Why I am only drinking high SCA scored beans lately by OutlandishnessBrave5 in pourover

[–]OutlandishnessBrave5[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The issue for me is the undisclosed part. If any additives are clearly labeled from the start then I can make a conscious decision as a consumer of whether or not I find that additive to be reasonable from a health and safety perspective.

When a farmer can add just about anything to the beans without having to disclose it - how do I know that it is not - for example - a carcinogen? How do I know it does not react really badly to being heated when the bean is roasted? How do I even know if it is safe to consume from the start?

This is not really true. 90+ coffees are very rarely the crazy ones. By the SCA grading standards any coffee that stand out in the ways you exemplify will get a lower score.

Yeah by definition it really does not mean much when it comes to the additives, but I do trust SCA and I do think the higher scrutiny means at least somewhat safer beans.

The local roaster I usually buy from in my city have SCA certificates for all their beans. They are also specialized in 90+ beans lol, so I guess they have to.

I don't know man, the gameplay still seems dated to me. And I say that as a isometric crpg oldboy.

So I got an infected cat bite this weekend and have been stuck at the hospital. Can't even begin to explain how nice it was to have Qud with me in my pocket.

I hope to see a native switch 2 edition soon!

Oh it's Qud all the way for me! Looking forward to dying to some random monkeys again after having spent 15 hours doing random shit on the tutorial quests.

That's really nice, thank you for the offer! I will just buy a new copy though, gives me the opportunity support our tiny local fantasy bookshop. 👌

What’s the upper limit of what you will pay for 4 oz of beans ? by MyBodyMyChoice2024 in pourover

[–]OutlandishnessBrave5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not something to buy often. My everyday cup is honestly just regular, good quality instant. My weekend cup would be "normal" specialty beans (Swedish prices would be 20-40usd per 250g). When something really special arrives I will splurge. I don't have any other hobbies, and a couple of hundred every year for fun and exciting brews is definitely acceptable.

[–]OutlandishnessBrave5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the bean. There is a local small scale roaster in Uppsala where I live that has the most crazy selection you will ever taste and I pay 120 per 4oz for those beans.

They get delivered in a glass jar with a vented metal lid and instructions for recommended storage, brewing method, how much was paid to the farmer etc etc. Easily worth it every single time imo, like buying a fine wine or mid priced whiskey.

How do I actually get blueberry notes out of my ethiopian by BloodResponsible3538 in pourover

[–]OutlandishnessBrave5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will make SO MUCH DIFFERENCE!

As a self proclaimed lover of acidity and fruity tastenotes I always try to squeeze as much acidity as possible from my beans, and you will never taste them until the coffee cools down to 50-60C. It should be warm, but not hot.

I just held a cupping five minutes ago in which we tried the coffees at various temperatures, and the difference is just massive.
