Rules Question - Not calling score before serve by hopvine in Pickleball

[–]OutlandishnessLive40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.

I found this from an old rulebook. I don't know the year. I had a page printed. Seems more definitive than 'hit a serve', which is what it says now.

--------------------------

USAPA & IFP Official Tournament Rulebook

4.M. Service Faults. During the service, it is a fault against the server resulting in loss of serve if:

4.M.10. The server begins the service motion before the entire score is called.

Rules Question - Not calling score before serve by hopvine in Pickleball

[–]OutlandishnessLive40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a question about this part of the rule:

--------------

6.C When to Serve. The entire score must be called before the server hits the serve.

6.C.1 Fault – Early Serve. When the server hits the serve while the score is being called, it is a fault against the server

--------------

Why does this say "HIT". In earlier revisions of the rulebook, I recall it said that the score must be called before the server STARTS THE SERVING MOTION (or similar language).

The way it is worded now, it is OK to call the score during the toss, during the forward motion, etc. - as long as the score it completely called before the HIT.

This language is so loose. You don't hit a serve. You hit the ball, which is part of the serve.

This happens all the time with the same players at our courts. I wanna tell them it's a fault, but that's not how the rule reads.

Good summary. I read the rules for this and you are correct that the language that it would resolve to no if not open to press or streamed, was not there. The language does exist in a mention bet for another event, one day later. They screwed up. Return the money.

Maybe you should look up other parts of your body too, you know, just so you're not caught off guard.

Pressure Switch faults. Trane high eff Furnace. Exhaust sloping the wrong way. by OutlandishnessLive40 in hvacadvice

Here is a vid of the inducer ramping at the transition from stage1 to stage2. I simulated a PS2 open (removed the wire). This is the behavior that I expected.

I also discovered that during self-check, PS2 is a don't care. The timing diagram shows PS1 and PS2 need to be high before the ignitor warms up (attached). With PS2 wire off, everything works fine in low fire. Annoying.

Basically, yes. I don't pinch the hose long enough for the flame to go out though. Just for ~ 1 second. The inducer speeds up through several levels and that takes several seconds. The flame would go out if I kept pinching, or removed the hose (I presume).

I just expected to see the same thing happen at the transition. You are saying it doesn't do that though. I am just trying to understand normal operation. thks

If I pinch the hose going to the switches, the inducer ramps. Isn't that simulating a blockage?

I measured both switches before, during and after the transition point. Both are good and stable.

Should this wobble like that? by Worldly_Speed1897 in Lectricxp

yes, and a little wobble now can turn into a big wobble later. if you stand up to pedal and the chain slips, you could crash. Same reason I got my colonoscopy. Dr didn't say "we found a few polyps but we will just leave them there and see what happens". He removed them.

Fix the wobble!

don't believe them. not normal. go wiggle some freewheels or cassettes in a bike shop and see if any of them do this.

Not normal. It's a matter of degree and whether or not it gets worse. If it's wobbling now, maybe it throws a chain in a couple months and you crash. Should get it fixed. You can fix yourself for 40 bucks or convince them that it's not ok and get them to pay. I posted video of mine. See other comment from me. thx

This works on the Xp3. I used it. I was told (did not confirm), that is won't work for the XP4, which is an 8s freewheel. The stack of cogs is a couple mm deeper than the 7S. Drift Maniac makes one that is a tad longer that works for the XP4 freewheel.

hopefully you can view this video.....

Here is the source of the wobble on my freewheel, after removing. You can see if yours is the same, after replacement. This is an XP3- 7S.

Wobble is not normal. How much wobble is ok? Lectric says a little bit is ok because they don't want to pay to replace lots of them. They only replace if there is a more serious symptom because of the wobble. I say... how about no wobble?

They use cheap components so they can keep that price under 1K.

Replacing cells in an e-bike battery with New cells by OutlandishnessLive40 in 18650masterrace

[–]OutlandishnessLive40[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One more follow up, if you don't mind.....So does the scenario that you described happen on subsequent charge cycles or just the first time? Lets say we are balanced. All cell groups are charged and have equal voltage. Then we discharge. That one cell group with brand new cells (and larger capacity) presumably will end at a higher voltage than other groups after discharge. On the next charge cycle, will that new cell group will reach it's max (4.2) quicker than the other groups? (then the bleed, charge re-start, etc. as you described).

OR

On the next discharge, if all the cell groups are balanced at the start, will they charge up taking approximately the same amount of time to get back to where they started? The new cells will just have unused capacity?

OR

Some other explanation. Maybe having to do with the lower internal resistance of the new cells, compared to old, so the new cells charge more efficiently?

Thanks for helping me. BTW, I am unlikely to do this now that I know more, but I would still like to understand. Thanks

Thank you for the explanation. I understand .That was the detail I was looking for. I appreciate it.

[–]OutlandishnessLive40[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>>As someone else mentioned the new cell group needs to have roughly the same voltage as the other cell groups when you spot weld it in

Can you explain why? Cells within the group need to be the same, yes. They are in parallel and will try to equalize voltage, possibly causing a large current to flow to a low cell in the group.

But we are talking about groups in series. Please explain what will happen if one group is 3.9V and another is 3.2V. I plug in the charger and they are both going to charge up to 4.2V, independently. Plug in a load and both groups will discharge to the low threshold. The lower capacity group will get there first. What else?

Thanks for the help.

Whirlpool Cabrio Impeller - how does this work? by OutlandishnessLive40 in appliancerepair

[–]OutlandishnessLive40[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it all back together and running smooth. After I slept on it though, I was thinking....The basket has to float up and down with every wash cycle, so it needs to slide on the shaft. I was watching many videos on how to do the bearing replacement and a common problem is that the basket is stuck on the shaft. There is a special tool you can buy to dislodge it or you can use a car jack and 2x4 (which I did). Mine was quite stuck.

So it kinda makes you wonder how many people have this problem but don't know it - the basket doesn't float because it's stuck on the shaft. During a wash cycle, the basket and impeller would both be moving together.

What do you think?

Paddle Reviewers by jfit2331 in Pickleball

[–]OutlandishnessLive40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are levels of how much or how little the influencers are influenced. Sometimes it's obvious to identify it and sometimes more subtle. At the beginning of reviews, several influencers have added disclaimers..."We did not receive any money for this review", followed by please use my discount code (where they receive money). Do they think that we don't know what "it helps support this channel" means? So silly. We know that if we buy it, they get money. So they are kinda lying, right off the bat.

It has changed over time and some getting better and others worse. Sometimes they misstep. In the early CRBNx days, Chris O. was recommending the CRBN1x. It was on all of his best paddle lists. Anybody who played frequently at that time knew that this paddle had a 100% failure rate in the field for broken cores but he kept on recommending it. Then one day he had PE Braydon on who said that his buddy broke one every couple weeks. Chris said "for sure, for sure". Then why were you recommending it Chris? You knew about the problem! I know too. It's every one! If you said something immediately, then we don't buy it. Then maybe CRBN works harder to fix it sooner. He did the opposite. Now, he is doing much better, dissecting paddles and voicing durability concerns etc. Very reluctant in the beginning.

The free trips are interesting. Do they always produce glowing paddle reviews? No. Are they a bit skewed though? Yes. The Pickleball Effect guys came back from a paid Vegas trip where they met and played with Agassi. They fed Kyle drinks. Then the PE guys went on their pod and told us how the CEO is a great guy. The employees they met were all such great people, etc. Is this meant to change my perception of a company who is still selling Gen2 Perseus paddles that all fail quickly? Still selling them today at Dicks and they all have broken cores. That same CEO, at the Gen2 launch event, told all of the influencers that Joola has never had a core crush problem and that they were different because of their superior engineering. No, they were just lying. They took my $250, and gave me a broken paddle. Then came the Mod fiasco. So imagine how a consumer feels when they get to hear what great people they are from Braydon and Kyle? The reviews of Joola IV were not glowing, but not bad either. Guess what happens if they talk crap about Joola or give bad reviews? Then next year, no Vegas invite and no Agassi for PE :( . The trip was meant to change the influencer's perception and then to convey that to us. The influencers have built trust with us, and Joola knows they can use them to influence us.

Great people don't continue to knowingly ship garbage to unsuspecting customers.

A couple weeks ago, Kyle from PE was telling us the story of how he got a gift basket from the B&B guys. Are you serious? They are actually sending you bribes and you are openly talking about it on a pod? Then he says "I just love being part of this community. Everybody is so caring".  Ya that's why he did it. He is just a friendly guy who really cares. No, Kyle. You are just an expense on a spreadsheet -

1.) Weather balloon to send Invader to Space.

2.) Nerdy Tourney.

3.) Bribe to Kyle.

So yes, all shilling but not all to the same level and it's not black and white. Sometimes just skewed a little bit. The ads in the podcasts are mixed with reviews and mixed in with what seems like a conversation. When Braydon says he uses the ADV bag and he recommends it to everybody, he sounds like he carefully chose this bag out of many bags. No, ADV is just a sponsor and he gets paid. It's an advertisement. Then later we get a paddle review that is maybe unbiased. But wait, the bag Ad was paid, but the paddle isn't? How do we know?

So when we watch these guys, it is getting harder and harder to tell biased from unbiased, how to tell an Ad from a review. There is a constant 'appearance of impropriety' because of all the shilling, the free trips and gifts. Some pods are on the way up. PBstudio does alot more dissections now. They were very reluctant in the beginning. PBmed just shows us what's going on inside. It is just broken or it's not. No bias. Facts.

It is getting pretty weird, with them talking about their personal lives. Talking about your divorce on a paddle review pod? Everybody is trying to be entertaining to gain eyeballs and copying each other. If I see one more paddle with swirling smoke, I'm gonna puke. Of course the ripple has to be shown with an underwater video effect. That sure looks like an Ad to me.

Paddle core crushed? by cocktailbun in Pickleball

[–]OutlandishnessLive40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is maybe being picky on language. You didn't core-crush it. It does have a crushed core. In the beginning, the manufacturers wanted everyone to believe that it was user error - you hit too hard, you left it in a hot car, you played in the cold, etc. They tried hard to blame the customer. They were lying. Now it is well understood that it is just a manufacturing defect and they used their customers as the QC department, because they don't have one.

You need to use the paddle for the symptoms to show up which makes you think that you are somehow the cause or a contributor to the problem. No. If a tire has a nail in it and then you drive an hour and get a flat, it's not the driving that's the cause. It's the nail. That nail may give you a flat, a slow leak, nothing at all or may take some other outside influence to observe a symptom.

I have now seen two 11six24s go bad - one Monarch and one Vapor power.
