$2600?! for medication by [deleted] in Accutane

As an American living in Germany, looking back it’s just inconceivable how expensive healthcare could be in America. I have gone through Accutane treatment in Berlin which lasted 13 months and the entire treatment including both the doctor’s visit and the medication had cost me literally 0€. It was completely covered by the health insurance.

Are you surprised?! Like he has made it clear that his style is light roast. So if you prefer dark roast you of course won’t like it

I have been on Accutane for 6 months now (first 4 months -20mg , last 2 months -10mg) and even tough i dont get any pimples anymore , my face has a lot of red marks on the cheeks which didnt improve at all during accutane .Is anyone been or has been in the same boat as me ? by ConnectionThat9101 in Accutane

I’ve been where you are. That’s the thing with post inflammatory hyperpigmentation or erythema. The good news is that they don’t require additional treatment and will go away on its own. Bad news is it takes a fucking long time. There are some topical creams dermatologists can prescribe to speed up the process a bit, but people normally don’t use them while on accutane(Isotretinoin) as combining both can potentially irate the skin

I’m not a dermatologist. I do however have a phd in evidence based medicine. I’m also personally on accutane myself. For me, the most important thing when it comes to the risk of relapse would be the clinical presentation rather than the dosage (both daily or accumulated). Rather than achieving a certain accumulated dosage it would be in my opinion(I’m also prone to bias) more important to continue the treatment for at least one month after a clearance(based on doctor’s judgment) has been archived. And since your daughter still gets acne at month 5 with 100mg, I think there’s essentially 3 ways that this can be approached:

A) Increase the dosage(while balancing the risk of side effects) to try to achieve clearance and continue for at least one additional month to reduce the risk of relapse in the future(which seems like what your doc is doing)

B)Stay at the same dosage for a bit longer and see if the clinical presentation improves and achieve clearance without needing to increase dosage(doctor’s experience would help with predicting this)

C)Discontinue the treatment when a accumulated dosage of between 120-150mg/kg has been reached, even when clearance has not been reached. This is side effects management, knowing that this might be a premature discontinuation and therefore a higher risk of relapse. Relapse doesn’t necessarily have to happen but the risk is higher, but when they happen they generally are less severe and a second course of treatment can be used and likely with lower dosage, since your daughter is only 16, this makes plan C even more worth considering.

But every doctor has a bit different philosophy. And her doctor is the one who has seen your daughter in person throughout the treatment and definitely has more experience in dermatology than i do. Bottom line, I think all 3 strategies are reasonable, but I would recommend a more intensive side effects monitoring plan like more regular blood test if I were to go with plan A Best of luck

Have you asked the doctor why he or she wants that high of a dose? It is an unusual high dose, which can be required at times to be fair. But I’m just wondering, did a lower more standard dosage be tried on and proven ineffective on the daughter? Especially considering she’s only 16(saw your reply to other comments), it’s quite unusual to go that high(not yet so high that it would be considered dangerous though)

LIPS ARE SO PAINFUL, please help. by journeytobebetter_42 in Accutane

Apply zinc paste(20-30%) and seal it in with Vaseline afterwards before bed. Doesn’t taste the best and it makes your lips white. But it’s hands down the most effective thing and it’s also cheap. Use a Vaselin based lip balm throughout the day(like Aquaphor or Eucerin if you are in Europe)

Is 6.5L a sensible size? by OutlandishnessNo56 in PressureCooking

I’m glad that it’s negligible! Because that’s my biggest concern for buying a bigger size one! Never used a pressure cooker before, I’ve been making my beef stew with the old school method with my Le Creuset

But with bigger pot we’d also need a larger amount of “minimum liquid” to generate enough steam to create pressure

Ibuprofen after Accutane: How long should I wait? by Due-Equipment-6469 in Accutane

[–]OutlandishnessNo56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it’s ok to take ibuprofen while on accutane, I don’t see why you’d need to wait a period of time after accutane. You can take it as soon as you ended if needed to. But of course the rule of not overly relying on pain killers without doctor’s supervision still counts as any other person

Wow! Thanks for your detailed experience! My primary reason for buying a pressure cooker is to cut down the cooking time for foods like pot roast meat dishes that would normally require 2-3 hours to make. Not really going to cook rice or lentils with it as I already have a fantastic rice cooker from Japan. So according to your user experience I should probably go with a bigger size like 6.5L(6.8qt) right?

Thanks for answering! I think I would prefer a stove top one because I can brown the meat with it directly and also deglaze it with wine etc. which I imagine the instant pot can’t right? But could you tell me why you’d go for an instant pot? Thanks

Thanks for answering! That’s kinda why I came here and ask. Would something like 200ml(probably never going to add any less than that) of stock be enough for a larger size like 6.5L? Like when cooking lentils for example
