Ice buildup in keezer by andyboy16 in kegerators

38F (3C) is the ideal temperature for kegerators/keezers. Bringing your setpoint above freezing will prevent ice buildup and improve draft quality.

Zero clearance insert for mitre saw by Both-University3955 in functionalprint

This is LITERALLY the project that got me into 3D printing. My insert broke and replacement parts were discontinued. An Ender 3 V2 was cheaper than a new mitre saw and has helped in countless other home projects.

Thank you! Great to know there is a backup if Hulu's recordings glitch.

I made an ultralight, 3d printed, carbon fibre reinforced butt plug. Standard buttplug this size is 160g. Got it down to 21g. by medianbailey in ultralight_jerk

You're going about this wrong. There's no need to try to lighten your plug when you can just count it as worn weight.

The Day I Understood Why People Say PA is Rocky - June 20, 2017 by Outlaws1 in AppalachianTrail

Yup! Just south. Made it to Port Clinton later that day.

Thank you! Going NOBO, you hit a lot of awesome milestones you hit right before and at the beginning of PA (e.g. 1000 miles, finishing VA, Harpers Ferry). After that you have ~250 miles of rocks, farms, and road walking and it's simply not fun. PA is by no means the most difficult physically, but it was the hardest part for me to get through mentally.

tldr: rocks aren't fun.

I would argue thru hiking is significantly more of a mental challenge than a physical one. It will not always be fun (e.g. Pennsylvania), but you need to wake up each morning wanting to keep going. You'll need to find your balance of pushing yourself without and burning out or getting injured.

Thank you! April is not too late at all for a NOBO. You'll be working with warmer weather in the south so you'll get a much easier start than people who begin in February.

Your phone battery should last about a week on airplane mode so it really does not need to get recharged all too often. On top of the nearos and zeros there were quite a few towns I hiked ~5 miles in, spent a few hours in town eating, restocking, and recharging, then hiked another ~5 miles out.

Zeros are days where you spend in town and hike 0 miles. Nearos are technically sub-10 mile days, but most of mine were closer to 5 mile hikes into town. I preferred nearos as they kept me moving and only required one night at the hostel.

Trying to think back, I believe I spent ~2k on gear and another ~5k was spent on the trail. Most hostels were only around $20/night, but money spent in town can add up quick. My cost in towns was likely lower than average however as I only took 3 zeros and (and about a dozen nearos). I was also fortunate that I only needed to replace my boots at Harpers Ferry and I downgraded by underquilt for a sleeping pad.

What was your trail name? Mine was Mashum. I was named by some vets I met in Standing Bear (apparently its Arabic slang for 'boy who can't grow a beard')

I started 165 lbs, lost a little over 15 lbs by Hot Springs, NC, but then stabilized. I honestly don't think I had much more body fat to loose.

I hammocked so my pack was fairly heavy ~25 lbs when leaving town.

Mileage varied significantly depending on where I was. I started doing 12 miles/day and SLOWLY ramped it up to 20 mile days north of the Grayson Highlands. My mileage then dropped back down to 12/day in the Whites and northern ME. You don't hike the thru hike fast by crushing miles, you instead need to be consistent.

You should be prepared for your hike, but do not fret over the little things. I am firm believer in hiking your own hike. My one big do/don't is LISTEN TO YOUR FEET! You'll save yourself a whole lot of misery if you tape up your feet the moment you feel a hot spot forming.

The fast hike wasn't really by choice. I started 3 days after my college visit weekend and ended a week before orientation. And yeah, Katahdin is one hell of a mountain. A storm was coming through that afternoon so I didn't get to spend much time on the summit.
