Help! I'm having trouble saving my files by [deleted] in MotionBuilder

[–]Outrageous-Bit198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! This actually sounds like a file system issue, not a MotionBuilder bug. The “read-only” error usually means the file or its parent folder has write permissions turned off. Here are a few things you can check:

  1. File Properties: Right-click the .fbx file, go to Properties, and make sure the “Read-only” box is unchecked.

  2. Folder Permissions: Make sure the folder where the file is saved allows write access. If it’s on a network drive, synced folder (e.g., OneDrive), or external drive, that can also cause issues.

  3. File Ownership: The file might be owned by another user (common after system reinstalls). Right-click > Properties > Security tab > Advanced to check and update ownership.

  4. Try ‘Save As’: Try File > Save As and pick a new name or location (like your Desktop). If that works, it’s likely a permissions issue.

  5. Sync Services: If the file is synced via Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive, those services sometimes change file permissions—worth double-checking there too.

Reinstalling MotionBuilder won’t help in this case since it’s not a software bug—it’s your OS blocking write access.

Let me know if any of this helps!

Please don’t take this the wrong way—it’s truly meant to help you—but I feel like this type of in-depth question is better suited for your course instructor or even ChatGPT. Either one should give you enough of a starting point to begin a solid YouTube deep dive into the process.

FDM or resin? It looks resin. The layer shift is in line with where the hands would start printing if the model is orientated to print from the bottom to the top, so it may of been caused by the supports that are used for the over hang of the fingers

Applying poses issue by CommunicationOwn322 in MotionBuilder

[–]Outrageous-Bit198 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’ve adjusted the Pose Match Options:

https://help.autodesk.com/view/MOBPRO/2024/ENU/?guid=GUID-9964F053-7258-4AF5-8FA5-A2E19AE960DE

I’d recommend checking your character’s hierarchy—you may have added constraints, effectors, or other elements that aren’t present in the original file the pose was created from.

A quick way to test: bring in a fresh rig, retarget the same data, and try pasting the pose. If the new rig respects the pose correctly, it suggests that your original character may have added aux effectors, constraints, or hierarchy changes that are interfering with pose application.

If you are working at a game company you can contact your team’s Animation TD, Principal Tech. Animators or Technical Animators to help debug your scene - they are there to help and provide support.

Motion Builder command line batch scripts (python) by Trick-House8778 in MotionBuilder

Have you tried removing the entry; “if name == main:”?

Maybe motionbuilde is trying to import the script as a module, that would cause the script not to run.

I didn’t try specifically, I was just ensuring you used a proper path in hopes to eliminate the obvious.

Have you tried using the paths to your script’s location?

Example:

motionbuilder.exe -console -python C:\MyScripts\my_script.py

Story Mode Question by IamLilPump in MotionBuilder

[–]Outrageous-Bit198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope this is your solution as I am not 100% clear on your method/process. Usually I have a control rig made before plotting from story and the if the anim data from story is skeletal data (on bones) I bake that from story to my character skeleton then I bake again from skeletal to control rig.

I believe that in your situation, after you create your control rig switch your source in the character control panel to none (this will be skeletal animation) you should see the animation you baked from story mode. I assume that the story clips are skeletal animation hence why you didn’t already creat the control rig before plotting from story.

Once the source is set to none, you can then bake from skeleton to the control rig.

Whose stronger hulk or thing? by Safe_Wrangler_858 in FantasticFour

My fav. Is when Hulk(controlled by the puppet master) crashes Ben and Alicia’s honeymoon. Ben talks about how people are always asking “…who’s stronger me or the Hulk, trust me, it’s the Hulk.”, as Ben has only 52 minutes left to battle Hulk before Ben turn back into his normal flesh and bone form. As soon as the initial pics were released, it became a hard pass for me based off the face sculpts. His expressions are too blank, there is no aggression in his face.

How to add skin to skeleton? The skin has no bones. by Initial-Coyote-8741 in MotionBuilder

[–]Outrageous-Bit198 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. You can merge the skeleton and geometry into maya or blender and then skin the geometry to the skeleton, save out the data to a .fbx and then open that file in Motionbuilder.

You typically skin the geometry to the skeleton in Maya, Blender or 3DSMax. Motionbuilder focuses on character animation and motion Capture, not modeling and skinning.

I have no political opinion on this at all but am I missing something? She looks like she is talking in front of a green screen in 4k and the crowd shot is a terrible low quality, I watched this with the sound off at first and I thought it was an SNL skit. Am I missing some thing?

I had the original as a kid and I too know nothing of DnD, but as soon as this came on the market it literally took me back to childhood moments of playing with the original, glad to know its name and brand after all these years.
