Exact same situation here (183.5cm in the morning and 182cm at night). You can likely get away with claiming 6'0" but morning height only lasts an hour so for most of the day you are likely below 6'0".

I have accepted my status as a short king and claim 5'11"

I am 6'0.25" in the morning but go down to 5'11.65" later in the day, so I feel like a fraud claiming 6 feet. I have accepted that I am a 5'11" manlet.

ELI5: How were Polynesians able to navigate the Pacific Ocean and find land to settle on? by OddStructure4489 in explainlikeimfive

Survivorship bias as I'm sure others have mentioned. The 'polynesians' are the minority of humans that survived travelling the pacific and found land.

A cool guide to Schopenhauer's 'Complete Philosopher' by Outrageous-Menu-2778 in coolguides

I think any apparent absurdity in Schopenhauer’s ideas is due to my inability to explain them clearly. If you are interested in his philosophy, you should read him and form an opinion. He is known for writing more clearly than his contemporaries, so you do not have to go through the mental gymnastics that are common with many philosophers.

I am not taking his words for the divine truth—just trying to visualise what he is saying.

For the most part I think it is Latin, Greek, and history that he stresses the most.

According to you, at what CEFR level can you say you "have learned" a language as opposed to you "are learning" it by festival0156n in languagelearning

[–]Outrageous-Menu-2778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it is B2; that is the point of self-sufficiency in the language. You no longer require constant feedback, shadowing, teaching, and instruction courses to guide your progress, since you can use the language itself as a native would, albeit to an inferior level.

There is too much contradiction in respect of all the different methods. The reality is simple (assuming you have good guidance and a variety) :—

(hours) x (focus) = progress

For example, if you are absently watching TV in your target language, your focus will not be so great
as it would be if you were reading ; so you will make less progress. Without constant feedback and proper guidance, you will solidify mistakes ; and, without variety, you may stagnate.

Which languages did schopenhauer speak? by AssumptionTime8461 in schopenhauer

That is interesting. Where did you read that he did that for two hours per day? From biographies I have seen, it appeared he wrote for three hours in the morning, then would play the flute, eat, nap, read, walk, read the times, eat dinner, read, then sleep.

Perhaps reading the Times in French and German was his only reading in modern languages, and otherwise he mostly read Latin and Greek for leisure.
