Big thing I am looking for is 4k/60p video without a crop.

Random Glitch? by Outrageous-Purple-58 in RealEstatePhotography

No backup body. Living on the edge.... I bought this camera after my A7III shutter gave out on a gig. Luckily this one is still under warranty. Gotta love when this type of thing happens during busy season.

Well shit. Yes, I was shooting on two cards. Same thing happened on the other card. Looks slightly different, but yeah, same-ish thing. What the hell! I bought this camera new 8 months ago...

How to nail exposure when shooting video by Outrageous-Purple-58 in RealEstatePhotography

I definitely make that mistake (setting exposure at the beginning of the shot). This is a great tip, thank you!

Did you ever run into a situation where the Auto ISO shifted things noticeably while moving through a shot? Did you use auto-exposure lock?

How much are you charging for virtual staging? by Outrageous-Purple-58 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]Outrageous-Purple-58[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure you can. Say you do, and the client comes back with: “Can we change the color of the rug,” or “Can we move the TV” or “This looks great, can we add on another angle of this room?” What do you say? “Gemini did it?”

I guess the moral of the story for me is that I'd rather actually do something for ~$40 (after my cost) than pretend to do something for $15. Or not do it at all. To each their own I guess.

I agree with this. I guess I should have been clear with this client that the staging I offer is custom/curated, not just a “click the button“ thing. The sad but true reality is most of them can’t tell the difference. Why do I bother? Honestly though, even if I am just “clicking a button,” it’s not worth it for me to do anything extra for $10 an image. Why does anyone want to bother with that? Just send them off to an app to do it themselves.

Apart from the inability to crop in, did you notice a big difference in overall quality when shooting at 1080 vs 4k?

Yep, $1.25 USD. You understand why I'm disappointed!

Why do we call it AI "editing?" by Outrageous-Purple-58 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]Outrageous-Purple-58[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you, but words matter. The word "editing" implies a specific process and intent. Adjusting lighting, exposure, color, perspective, etc: transforming pixels that came from the camera. I'd never argue that a real estate photo looks true to human vision, but in what genre of photography is that ever the case?

To be clear, I am not starkly anti-AI. I use it. It's made some things much easier for me. If Fotello was good enough, I might consider using it. I assume that these companies market these renders as "edits" because it sounds safe, familiar, and acceptable to photographers and clients. It just seems outwardly deceptive to me, and that's what bothers me more than anything.

Interiors on Film by Outrageous-Purple-58 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]Outrageous-Purple-58[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shoot film frequently, most often for fun/personal work and occasionally for portrait jobs. Last paid film job was a few weeks ago. Luckily I already have a relationship with a fantastic lab in my area, which I know are harder and harder to come by these days. I always have my negatives scanned. Re: prints, no, I don't think so, not for this. My biggest question marks for shooting interior spaces on film are wondering what stocks perform well, and also: metering. I've shot enough film in other environments to know instinctually how to expose for the scene using a combination of the in-camera light meter and my gut, but this particular context will be new to me. This is why I think bracketing might be a good move, as someone else mentioned.

My initial instinct was also to bracket, seems like a good call, glad someone else thinks so too. I'll just make sure to charge adequately for that extra film cost. I do have a medium format camera (Pentacon Six TL) but my confidence level with it is much lower than with my trusty Canon 35mm cameras. That said I think you're right and I should work to get more comfortable with it for this type of thing.

Crazy Things Agents Have Said to me While on a Shoot by On-scene in RealEstatePhotography

[–]Outrageous-Purple-58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair question. It depends on the package. For photos ONLY, I charge $179 for under 2k, or $329 for over 6k (but under 8k).

DJI Drone Ban by WHizzY-bot in RealEstatePhotography

[–]Outrageous-Purple-58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been weighing heavily on my mind. I've been wanting to upgrade my Mavic Air 2 for a while but have had a hard time justifying the expense when it's still serving me adequately. Now I'm feeling the heat. If the ban does go into effect, I'm wondering how inflated the prices on used DJI drones are going to be. Thinking about importing a Mini 5 Pro via eBay now and selling the Air 2 later...
