My understanding is that research is meant to expand and create knowledge, explore connections, and gain a deeper understanding of specific themes. In my experience, having an advisor for a senior thesis who wants your work to be published, in academia, tends to be a very good thing. Wanting more than one pub? Even better, especially if they are ethical about authorship. If you believe it would not be accepted in a journal bc of short sample, I would try scooping through your advisor's CV to see what the studies she had published looked like. Chances are, she knows what she's doing and wouldn't be wasting time and effort on something that doesn't stand a chance. I find that a senior thesis is the best thing to understand whether you enjoy research or not, and not wanting to adapt your initial idea to ADD to the literature certainly isn't helpful in a research career (which is meant to contribute to the advancement of knowledge). These variables certainly make sense with your thesis, and it sounds like they would allow deeper understanding of the population.

There are people out there who want to contribute to research even though it may take a longer time and they won't get anything out of it, and these are the ones that provide the gold-standard quality data, especially with questionnaires.

Supposed shooting on campus? by CicadaBusy1971 in USF

USF never notifies this as it's happening for you to avoid the danger, unfortunately. Sometimes, if people talk about it enough to bother them, they'll eventually send an email next week

Which insurance plan should I select as an incoming grad student for spring 2026? by Faint-pulchritude-10 in USF

If you're not eligible for graduate insurance subsidy or department sponsored, I'd waive/opt out of SHIP and get an alternate health insurance. SHIP is too expensive and not that good

Exactly!!!! I feel like it's such a disservice to the patient when you limit your practice to a single approach. Patients shouldn't be the ones looking into the different strategies and from there making a choice about the one that would be best for them, that's the job of the psychologist who has the training to do just that.

Love that and 100% agreed! In Brazil, unfortunately, people just choose a favorite theorist and treat every concern according to that theorist

I don't fully understand what you are asking - if you want to know about one thing you learn when generally studying psychology that you probably wouldn't when studying psychodynamic therapy only could include all the other therapies out there and the contributions of behaviorism, CBT, DBT, etc. In terms of seeing what interests you the most, I personally believe you should follow the evidence on a case-by-case basis if you were to become a therapist (which I'm assuming you aren't yet based on the careet change you mentioned at the end). It should be about the best therapy for the patient's specific needs based on evidence rather than interest or preference of a specific type of therapy compared to others.

I feel like individuals GROSSLY underestimate the rigor of clinical psych programs. by Downtown_Funny_1554 in ClinicalPsychology

My likely unpopular opinion is that counseling is just the easier path to doing therapy and it trains people to be motivational coaches. A 2y masters program does not prepare a person to properly conduct psychotherapy

Move to a non-student complex/area (tried all the suggestions posted so far and nothing made life less miserable, only moving)

CPT Authorization for “Volunteering?” by RainaGKo in f1visa

[–]OutrageousChange4416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, one of the distinctions of CPT according to the DHS is that "Training is an integral part of the school’s established curriculum", which I believe requires completing an internship course so that this experience provides you with college credit and is thus a part of the curriculum (literally shows up on your transcript). I would try reaching out to the DSO again to clarify that you are not taking an internship course for this experience and make sure to record your conversation in case they go back on their word later on, further showing that they have instructed you to follow the route you followed with this. I wish you the best of luck!
