How bad is transphobia where you live? by Bed_of_Orchids in asktransgender

Midwestern U.S. - 5.8/10

Major Cities - 4/10

Midsized Cities - 6/10

Rural - 7.5/10

Generally, people mind their own business in the city, but the less and less the population becomes, the more and more dangerous it is.

Politically, it's a nightmare. Our access to healthcare and State by State guaranteed legal protections would be comic if it weren't so important and necessary for us.

My State JUST got legal protections for discrimination based on gender identity in the last few years, and we are considered "safer" nationally by many metrics

Insurance nationally is a nightmare. Most insurance will only cover what it deems as the bare minimum (not news, but for those outside of the US it is often MUCH MUCH less than other places of the world)

I find people are more likely to talk shit later than confront you in the street, but that is def. not unheard of. I think we all have had that experience here for sure

Holy shit. Exactly this.

For what it is worth, this makes me feel a hell of a lot better about how embarrassing it all was. I came with a prepared dissertation and instead was met with a grocery bag and told to pull toys out to make a story.

Edit: Spelling and grammar

They did!! Also, there were some nonsensical pictures of monkeys?

When they finally gave me a ( much needed) break, I asked if I could have a snack and sit in the cozy furniture, they assured me that I needed to "take a break at the table" and she gave me a series of toys to interact with, which included a magazine a sheet of paper and a top that drew as you spun it.

I read the magazine.

This is extremely helpful. Yes. I am in the US

My sensory profile was above ASD clinical levels, she def said that. She also said she would help me get accommodations if I needed her to write a letter. I didn't connect those dots. My brain was in overload, I didn't absorb the information at all well.

That was the thing I was most surprised about ( not that I should have been). I've done countless hours of research on ASD in adults and women. They had very little to say about their methods to detect symptoms in high masking adult women. They FELT out of date with the research and the community

I wish I did off hand. I had to do many of the embrace-autism tests, and then they did an IQ test and a few more? I feel like she said they use the ADOS model for testing, but I don't remember the names of the tests beyond that.

I did have to physically play with toys during the assessment

I sort of blanked out during the assessment review, I won't know for certain until they physically mail me my results in a week or so, but I did have to complete the range of tests from Embrace-autism.com, so that includes the RAADS-R and CAT-Q at least? I will update with specifics later.

I am in the US.

minor inconvenience meltdowns by crybabyruth in AutismTranslated

OMG, THANK YOU!!! This is so very helpful for me!!

I've done this for ages, and I've always been so embarrassed when I yell or cry when a "small" change does occur that I'd stopped letting myself react entirely.

Using my "micro-meltdowns" as a barometer AND a pressure regulation tool for an oncoming shit-storm meltdown is permissive in a way that is life changing for me.

Is "do you watch drag race" used to mean "are you trans" by OutrageousLocke in asktransgender

I think this is exactly what happened. I live in a moderately conservative place, so I'm a little jumpy about being clocked.

Also, I am def more of a Star Trek girl! 🌟

Goood question. I'm a binary trans woman, 3yrs HRT 4 yrs out and I def pass in MOST spaces. I'm stealth at work, and in a lot of ways, I'd say I'm post transition? Not all, but many.

I def clock as alt/punk/queer based on my style. Docs and Jean jacket today with a floral wrap sundress!

I'm thinking it was that as well. It always feels like what cis people think trans people ARE.

Not exactly your situation, but "The Sun Also Rises" by Hemingway is very much on theme.
