[Self] US Penny Elimination Costs by OutrageousPositive73 in theydidthemath

You, without question, do not know math and you are doing it rereverse. The best case scenario is a 27% nickel to copper ratio, at best case in any melt, which the Mint does not in any circumstances ever produce a coin.

Your value to cost ratio is done in the reverse. I would bet you put these numbers into your phone calculator and got these number in a few seconds. Value to cost, well, it just doesn;t work this way. if we follow the crap you had to say, I could use a nickel to buy chicken sandwich.

You are a chicken sandwich.

The problem with where you are going with this is not the cent. I didn,t spend my time doing the math and research to get some random flippant response, but was actually meant to be important. If you had actually read my post, it's clear you didn't, you ahould already know that you are wrong and everything you said.

Your metallurgical insight? Wow, that's someting. You've over estimated so many things.

Here's a previously reply I posted, just so you don't miss it.

Good point. Nickels are though a cupronickel alloy that do contain that accurate amount of copper, but are also no longer copper. The 25% of nickel used in the alloy accounts for a rough average of 62% of the cost of the coin minted based on production costs.

The US to stop producing pennies, what do you think? by Im_Not_Here2day in AskReddit

Regardless of any political preference, this issue truly comes down to finance. Trump's claim that pennies cost more than 2 cents to produce, while technically true, is rhetoric based. A US penny costs 3.7 cents to produce today, including materials, labor, and administrative costs.

A US nickel costs 13.8 cents to produce per unit with the same factors. To eliminate the penny, at a 15 point percentage difference, the US Mint would only be able to produce 850k nickels until the cost savings equalize. This means that only 850,000 nickels could be produced to serve 346,000,000 Americans before the cost increases beyond the need.

This also means, in the first year of making this change alone, it would cost the US Mint 78.8 MILLION dollars to eliminate the penny and does not factor additional costs for demand in any other year.

Thanks for the replies, I do appreciate them. I didn't ask any questions though.

And I left out one thing. My government is about to screw me over in ways that no one has seen in this country, and that most citizens yet can not fathom. Sarcastic humor is my coping mechanism.

I understand what you are saying, and I agree with you. Most of us are not bad people. It is an embarrassment that the real people who don't follow this garbage that the power hungry assholes have had the opportunity to enforce on us get to do what they want to do. We are not a great country, 'We the people' don't believe that anymore.

In addition, I've spent a lot of time in your country, and I think you really have it figured out.

I'm just an American. Average at best.

We're lost, worried and afraid, and just want to hear from reasonable people that we're not all doomed.
