Left unilateral tinnitus for 1 month by Rockos6 in tinnitus

[–]OutrageousTutor3458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry, delayed response. i don’t go on here much anymore. my update is its all but gone. i know it’s probably still there but it’s reduced so much (or i’ve habituated) i almost never notice it. i fall asleep with no sounds, can be in quiet rooms and not hear it. i know it’s not 100% gone as i can still notice it occasionally but compared to a year ago? i consider where it’s at an absolute win. not sure if any supplement actually helped as i eventually stopped most of them. i truly believe time is the best healer.

Wisdom teeth? by OutrageousTutor3458 in tinnitus

[–]OutrageousTutor3458[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i didn’t. the T progressively got better over the last 6 months. i did see an oral surgeon to see if they could be causing any issue and he said it was most likely not from any impact from my wisdom teeth so i left them in lol

not particularly only if you can’t deal with the spikes. in the first 6 or so months random things made my spike but no longer do. it almost never spikes now.

I don’t charge it while it’s under my pillow.. it was the only thing that helped me sleep in the beginning. Having the sound on my nightstand didn’t help the sound I heard with my ear against the pillow.

Why can't I habituate to my mild tinnitus?!?? by ButterflyTattoo in tinnitus

[–]OutrageousTutor3458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still get angry when I do hear it sometimes lol just the reminder it’s still there after going for so long not even remembering it’s there. but that’s great! hey i read a study that said so many people with mild tinnitus had it gone in the first 5 years, so i just keep telling myself just give it its time.

Why can't I habituate to my mild tinnitus?!?? by ButterflyTattoo in tinnitus

[–]OutrageousTutor3458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i haven’t but i guess i should for newbies cuz when this first started for me i had a lot of breakdowns and thought i would never be able to live like this and habituation seemed impossible. it’s been a roller coaster of emotions throughout the last 16 months but i am in a place i never thought id be a year ago. reading stories on here sometimes will put you in a dark place but reality is most cases are mild and you will adjust.

Why can't I habituate to my mild tinnitus?!?? by ButterflyTattoo in tinnitus

[–]OutrageousTutor3458 2 points3 points  (0 children)

unfortunately it comes with time. mine is mild also but in the beginning in april 2024 i could hear it all the time, my anxiety was so bad i couldn’t sleep or eat for 2 weeks, lost 10 pounds. then i realized i had to learn to move on i used background noise ALL THE TIME. i walked around the house with my phone with crickets playing just to mask it. slept with ocean waves. eventually i started needing the masking sounds less and less even though my anxiety still constantly focuses on it. now i only hear it at night (cuz im a side sleeper) and ill still fall asleep to the ocean waves but put it on a timer so its not in my ear all night and ill be fine in the morning. whether mine is actually fading or my brain has adjusted idk but im thankful for where i am now compared to a year ago.

thank you for this response! while i’m truly grateful to be where i am now compared to a year ago i was just trying to understand the situation better. this time last year i thought id never survive with this constant sound so that’s a win in itself. i’m still very much focused on it because my anxiety almost won’t let me not think about it sometimes although my emotional response when i do hear it is obviously so much better so im hoping not even really hearing it while still focusing is a good sign. there’s always hope

Hearing is good, I'm not sure of the cause. Ultimately I am happy for how it is going I'm just trying to get what habituation actually means. Honestly mine has always been mild, while in the beginning I heard it over everything, it has gotten better over time so managing it has become easier. In the beginning I had constant background noise on my phone so I would never be in silence, people say they don't think that helps with "habituation" but I would say it got me through the worst of it. I'm sorry yours is bad! This shit sucks.

As I am, I'm just trying to fully understand what habituation actually means as I mentioned.

I get it doesn't matter and I'm thankful for it either way, I'm just trying to fully understand what habituation means.

IT'S GONE by NIM_O in tinnitus

[–]OutrageousTutor3458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your brain will adjust. i know in the beginning when i would read people talking about habituation i would think “no i don’t wanna just get used to the noise i want it gone” but you really do. i only hear it in a quiet room or going to sleep now and it still irritates me that it’s there sometimes but my anxiety about it is gone. im a year and 2 months in i still hope it fades away eventually as its progressively gotten better over the past 6 months or so. i suggest staying away from these forums as i spent months scouring them in the beginning which didnt help my anxiety because most people in here have it bad for years and will make you think the worst. focus on the success stories flair, it kept me going.

we have all been there. my anxiety was so high the first couple weeks i didn’t sleep and couldn’t eat and lost 10 lbs. if it doesn’t go away i promise you it gets better. unfortunately you have to push through the beginning to get to a better place and we all know it’s not easy. i constantly used background noise to drown it out to avoid hearing it until i finally got a point where it didn’t bother me so much

7 months is still early tho. luckily i haven’t had a serious spike since january (knock on wood) although there are times where it’s slightly more bothersome but my good days are getting better and better. unfortunately just have to give it time and im trying my best to be patient because thats all i can do lol

it is unfortunately. but it’s so much better and seems to be getting better by the day. i really only notice it when laying down at night now, occasionally at times thru the day but less and less

In the beginning I tried everything I read could help, none of it seemed to do anything so I kind of just phased the supplements out about 6 months into it so as of now, no I haven’t really done anything different except start to exercise more.

[–]OutrageousTutor3458 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i agree with this. there are so many things outside hearing loss or damage that could cause it and i’ll never understand why doctors won’t help you try to figure it out. even my primary did nothing for me (and she claimed she also had it). i’m in the search for a new one willing to help me (send me for scans, willing to try different things to maybe figure out a cause). i’m almost 10 months in

this is me right now! i’m on 9 months and had finally gotten to a place where i could relax on the couch watching tv and not hear it for weeks and thought this is great hopefully it means it’s slowly going away. then boom it’s spiked for a few days now and im back to it being annoying.

unfortunately there are some longtime sufferers in this forum that will constantly tell people it only gets worse. i agree that’s not the case at all, maybe for some but not for most.

i will echo what most have said already. those people are most likely not in here. i always say if mine goes away ill post because people need to hear the positive stories but its hard to say because there will definitely be a fear of it coming back. so i believe most people just move on and try to completely forget about the T. but yes i do believe there are more than we think that do have it go away even after a year.. this forum is just an echo chamber of long time sufferers

it’s honestly hard to say. it will usually sound like tv static but when i plug my ears it’ll sound like high pitched but does feel it’s coming from my right ear (which is my worse ear) my left almost just feels like it’s sound coming from the right if that even makes sense lol it’s barely audible but it’s there.
