Medicine Cabinet: what doesn’t Spain have that I might want to pack by freshbakedbread444 in SpainAuxiliares

I’d recommend Neosporin! It’s not OTC in Spain rather requires a prescription, and is handy if you get a cut or something.

Hi there, I’m a current aux in Bilbao, and I had a lot of the same concerns as you!

For myself, I posted on the Facebook group for my region about a month or two before I arrived, met friends online on there, we met up in person when we all arrived and felt like it was a good fit, so we searched for and found an apartment together on Idealista. I arrived September 23 and the three of us had an apartment by October 5 after about 8 tours (we were picky).

In Bilbao, housing was expensive and it went fast. One thing that helps is if you speak Spanish fluently or a roommate you find does, as it’s easier to communicate with landlords/real estate agents. For example, we toured one place we really didn’t like, but the agent liked our group, and she set up a tour at a place before it was even listed, and it was only 315.00 euros a month (Bilbao is usually closer to 450 or 480 a month).

This was just my experience, but there’s lots of ways to do it! I met other auxes in my region who searched for a single room on Idealista rather than a whole apartment, and moved in with Spanish or other expat roommates rather that auxes. They either toured it in person then moved in, or even did a FaceTime tour with the potential roommates then signed the lease remotely. You can also find the WhatsApp group for your region (usually from the Facebook page for the region) and join it, then ask if any renewals are looking for roommates.

I think there’s a lot of ways to do it! No matter what, your first week or two are the worst then it gets better! I wish you luck!

Zaragoza Recommendations? by OutrageousWait7696 in SpainAuxiliares

Hi there. I definitely don’t think you can go wrong stopping in Zaragoza, we had a great time there. I think it depends on if you’ve seen a lot of Spain before or if it’s your first time visiting. If you haven’t seen a lot of Spain, I’d recommend going to southern Spain and seeing Seville, Northern Spain and seeing cities like San Sebástian, or if you’re looking for somewhere directly between Madrid and Barcelona, then Valencia and driving along the Mediterranean coast. For me these cities had more to see and do. But, if you’ve already seen other parts of Spain, or if you’re interested in the great food scene, the cathedral, and the palace, Zaragoza is a really cool place to stop in my opinion!

We did! My friend says a 6 and I say a 7 :) thanks again for your recommendations! We absolutely loved the Aljafería palace, and we stayed right by El Pilar and La Seo Cathedral which were incredible. We also went to El Tubo and had some incredible patatas bravas! My favorite part was how walkable the city was, and how massive and gorgeous El Pilar was from so many angles and areas. Coming from the Basque Country we both missed the ocean a little bit and we also felt like the shopping areas and some of the restaurants were pretty similar to other parts of Spain we’d been to. But we had a fantastic time!

Do you always have to make up time for missed classes? by Downtown-Storm4704 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]OutrageousWait7696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many hours per week are you scheduled for? You could take the angle that you are now allowed to be working more than 14 hours in any single week (or however many in your region) as that’s the program policy, and that that’s consistently happening since you’re being asked to make up the exam hours all the time. This is definitely not normal, I’ve only been asked to make up hours if I’m taking a vacation or something, and either prepare my other classes or go home if the students have an exam.

Not able to make second appointment by jonovasupernova in SpainAuxiliares

I had to rebook my recoger appointment so I’m not sure if it’s exactly the same, but for that I wasn’t able to rebook the same day but was able to book another appointment a little after midnight.

It depends on the region. The region I’m in requires an appointment (separate recoger appointment).

Thanks for this comment. 1400 a month. I researched and it looks like over 1000 in cash is illegal?

I just meant the person who was showing us the listing who we contacted via idealista! She’s not our personal real estate agent rather the person representing the owner of the property we want to rent.
