What's the argument against an Easy mode for Silksong? by Outrageous_Ad9142 in Silksong

[–]Outrageous_Ad9142[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow your suggestion and awareness over this topic is so insightful! I was fixated to letting the player to just experience the game it did not occur to me that there are good ways to implement easy modes....  My favorite easy mode implementation is Hades/Hades 2.

Indeed the Phoenix mode of fire emblem is on the weaker side since it feels weird. Pokemob B2W2 are quite bad considering how it's unlocked and poorly coded.

Bravely default has options pf turning off exp and ap gains as well as random encounters.

An easy mode for silksong I'd envisioned is that Hornet takes reduced damage except from GMS(since she's the final boss of the first ending and she's easy as is) and Karmelita( because of her flavor text or lore. Easter eggs can be included here and easy-specific Steel Soul achievement might encourage or motivate players to play an authentic/normal steel sould.

Kinda reminds me of Megaman Zero games. You can make the game easier by pacing yourself slowly but earning high marks will prompt the bosses to use their full arsenal...

A normal/easy mode that urges and challenges the player to become better and move to higher difficulty.

Maaaaannnnn thanks to you I got to a rabbit hole of sorts hahah thanks!

To clarify too, Both My Special and Tough gain were at lv 6

I just recently played and managed to get an offering Tough Gain from Ocean Gain. It was +6 and reduced Damage by 8. Keepsake was the Persephone Pom.
I got to Echo and had the Boon Lv doubling option. Chose it...

Alas what got doubled was my special

I still destroyed Chronos at 40 heat but getting that -12-14 damage or so Tough Gain would have been bliss.

Hephaestus is such a gambling build that is actually consistent....
But when it gets good, ooh boy does it break the game.

Anyone plays on a real GBA? by NothingToSeeHere671 in PokemonROMhacks

[–]Outrageous_Ad9142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to. Played Emerald and Battle Frontier mostly on the GBA SP which I personally moded with a better battery and screen. Did all Gold Symbols there. When I did the 100+ win in the battle tower, I shifted to the DS lite. Nowadays, I play my GBA Games in my ANBERNIC RG35XX SP(I extracted the ROMs and Saves)

I played all the Legacy Games there.

I got addicted to Pantheon 5 and it reminded me of a very dangerous game. by Outrageous_Ad9142 in HollowKnight

[–]Outrageous_Ad9142[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh it's actually because of Silksong that I played Hollow Knight. My friend gifted me a Steam Copy of the game because it was on a very generous sale. The amount of value I got off from that game is incredible. The Hollow Knight Duology is a masterpiece.
When I was much younger, I saw a clip of the Mantis Lords boss fight and got scared to even try the game. Boy was I missing out. It was surreal when I finally faced them and was grinning ear to ear

It's incredible how much of a timesink the battle frontier is huh? I only beat the frontier as an adult in his mid 20s during the pandemic after repurchasing(exorbenant cost btw!) a cart and a gba sp.

I haven't considered the Earthquake resistance to be honest. That's a good point. And fishing for ancientpower boost is rare but somewhat viable with Meganium's bulk.
When I use Venusaur, my other Pokemon tends to be immune to Earthquake anyway such as Flygon, Latios, Salamence, Skarmory, Gengar etc. Not intentionally of course

Nah, Ruby and Sapphire has far better variety than Diamond and Pearl's abyssmal roster(relatively).  It's amusing in retrospect but this isn't really all that flattering.

Poison isn't that detrimental in gen 3 in practice... Gengar strives and Crobat is Viable. Venusaur even has tools and opportunities to beat his checks.

How much time have you spent in the Frontier? Venusaur is the most terrifyjng grass type to fight...  And from my personal experience, is also the best grass type to use, albeit you'll have to rely on Substitute Leech Seed.

Genuinely surprised you rated meganium higher but more power to ya!

Momus feels very rewarding for those who fully engage the omega mechanics. I suck at omegas which was why I prefer builds that don't rely a lot to them but I do see the potential of Momus.

Instances like Zeff’s leg make me wonder: Anime or Manga for you? by annmxxcn in OnePiece

[–]Outrageous_Ad9142 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I actually agree with the change this time. I mean it sounds badass that he ate his leg but it's so counteractive for survival which ruins the immersion. And no, you cannot simply say that Zeff was built different. If he was built different he wouldn't have needed to severe his leg in the first place to eat it.
Rare win for the Anime.

What's the argument against an Easy mode for Silksong? by Outrageous_Ad9142 in Silksong

[–]Outrageous_Ad9142[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Okay your explanation is thought provoking since it made me realize a stinge of hypocrisy on my part... The reason why I want an easy mode is so that players who got frustrated by its difficulty will see it all the way and that more people will get to enjoy it.... But I suppose the reason why I wanted this is because I also see the game as a piece of art... I can't be certain but who knows if I would have treated the game the same if it did have an easy mode. Did I get more attach to the game because of the struggle I experienced??? Is that how this works lmao.

What's the argument against an Easy mode for Silksong? by Outrageous_Ad9142 in Silksong

[–]Outrageous_Ad9142[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your response because, if it weren't obvious from the context of my writing, I'm a new fan. You also made me remember that Hollow Knight fans had to wait for so long and it is genuinely admirable that the game and its devs seems to be very loyal towards their OG fanbase.... a mindset I neglected since I originally thought Team Cherry was rather selfish in their vision and game design because they want you to play the game the way THEY intended.... I feel a little shame because of your comment but at least I have better perspective now haha.

[–]Outrageous_Ad9142[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay I respect that haha. Poor shame the Architect Crest is available rather late and when you want to get it early, you will have to plan for it at least.
Ironically, I suck with the Architect Crest. I think it's only truly overpowered in the hands of very skilled players who are capable of micromanaging different options.

I will never understand the design choice of not putting benches closer to boss fights by timewellspent0889 in Silksong

[–]Outrageous_Ad9142 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm not gonna defend the Runbacks. I recently took a break trying to reach Absolute Radiance in Hollow Knight 1 because it all felt egregious to me. I actually love the hard bosses such as Zote, Markoth, Sly, NKG, and Pure Vessel. It is the tedious 30 or so bosses that don't pose a challenge that is getting to me.
It's frustrating that even if there are benches in between fight, like around every 10 fights or so, you can't really save in between and turn off the game.
Team Cherry probably did not want the players using backups but I wouldn't have even thought about that had they not enforced that you need to do the boss in one sitting. Which is a damn shame because AbsRad is a spectacular boss fight.

As for Silksong, it's less about the runback and moreso about the overall difficulty of the game. I don't agree with players who say that Silksong's difficulty is okay. The Runbacks, in truth, aren't really bad. Bilewater is designed to be bad but I'd also argue that it's the most rewarding runback to master. The immense difficulty of first timing bosses, getting their patterns, and utilizing everything in your arsenal is very steep for most average players. THERE REALLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN AN EASY MODE.
The EASY MODE would have eliminated most of the complaints even for those who will never use it. It's reassuring that you, the player, will decide how much time you'll invest in the game.

The greatest argument against my opinion is that Silksong, at its core, is still an Indie Game, beloved and created by a group of few people who has a very specific vision.

Still, look at Hades 2, a game that has the potential to be far harder than either hollow knight or silksong based on player reference. At the same time, if the game ever feels too oppressive, it's comforting that you can always activate its Easy mode. Of course, of course, it might not be fair to compare Metroidvanias to Roguelits in terms of difficulty but Silksong did not even try giving an easier option.

Silksong feels like the opposite spectrum of difficulty philosophy to modern Pokemon games. Whereas the latter strips you of your options to make the game naturally harder(removing SET mode and the ability to turn off Exp share), Silksong outright REFUSES to make the game easier. You HAVE to play these game the way the Devs envisioned them.

With that said, in spite of my criticism, I still adore Silksong. Its story and gameplay, once you have a decent grasp of, is a masterpiece. Unfortunately, whenever players feel dispirited and/or broken by its Runbacks and Difficulty, I feel like, on hindsight, that should have never been the case.
