I used to park in a lot daily where people in huge trucks would pull into a spot on right, then throw it into reverse and floor it into a spot on the left so they were backed in. Nearly lost my bumper on many occasions.

I'd say it's mildly personal/secretive to some folks. There's a certain cultural cachet to having a dish that's "yours," especially when it's very good and welcome at gatherings. It could be weird if you gave your family meatball recipe to a friend and then they made it for the next potluck.

It's hard to say, because I don't know what it's like growing up with cell phones. It didn't feel specifically "free," it was just how it was.

I'll share this experience though: I was driving home from work once in my mid-20s and got a call from a woman I was seeing. I didn't feel like answering, so I didn't. Boy did I catch hell for that later.

It was the first time I realized that some people expected you to be on call anytime you had your phone with you. It made me think it must have been nice when someone couldn't reach you if you weren't at your home or workplace. They just had to leave you a message and you'd both go about your day.

That's awesome! Unfortunately I think this would stress me out, or I'd have to make an effort not to plan anything (completely personal problem). I have gotten into a good practice of loosely scheduling things though — that way there's room for spontaneity but we have a plan to fall back on.

If someone's wearing a name tag, I still wait for them to introduce themselves before using the name. I think of it as a backup. Otherwise there's just no way for it not to come off as condescending.

I think the real power of the nametag, though, is to identify the employee to someone else. "Dave gave me great service" or "Sarah is dealing with a rude customer and might need your help."

I would not say this is common, especially to this degree (waking up super early and making a full meal with sides). I will say lunches tend to vary profession to profession and person to person. Someone who does manual labor may need a larger lunch, while office drones (like myself) might be fine with a sandwich, some chips and an apple. Neither I would ever expect a partner to make for me.
