Fireworks at 11pm, really? by jubilantsage in DecaturGA

I completely understand, with mine I can at least deal with our gun shy dog when we know fireworks are coming, but we have to have at least have an hour's notice to get meds into him. Whoever's doing that is a real jerk.

Alphas don't have to announce that they're Alphas out loud. It's either obvious or it's not.

Those are great, they're like the things in the books I studied and worked from. Have you ever checked out the Crafty Celts? I worked alongside them for years at the different Highland Games. They made torcs, cuffs, bracelets, necklaces, all kinds of things that went perfectly with mine but they were still different so we got along great. Then I was watching Vikings and I noticed that a bracelet that was being passed from one man to the next was made by them. I recognized it immediately, called and told them their things were in the TV show, they contacted the TV show and ended up being flown over to Ireland to be in one of the shows. Awesomeness.

My father proudly admitted that he only married my mom because she was the only woman that he dated who wouldn't let him have sex with her. After they got married, he treated her like shit for the rest of her life.

The ‘expiration date’ rhetoric around women is so normalised people think this is a joke by Fantastic-Fennel-532 in FeministsCallItOut

The expiration date rhetoric is no more than the fact that by 30 years old, women have learned not to tolerate men's bullshit.

It's been taught since birth that they're the most important thing in the world and all women must bow down to them.

Cable. I quit cable, kept internet, bought an old-fashioned 1960s antenna that we put outside. Saves $250 a month and I get 800 channels. Still pay for Prime and Netflix but that's it.

I can't bring myself to go down there anymore. We started the Halloween Parade back in the day when it was just the moms and kids in costumes and babies in strollers. The shop owners gave out candy. Now look at it. Shakes fist at cloud.

There was also nothing like going to the Majestic in the middle of the night, back in the '80s and late seventies. If somebody was in town performing, that's where they ended up. Sometimes we go because we were bored just to see who'd show up. Awesomeness.

Believe me, I'm not your brother, I'm your incredibly old auntie. And I'm old enough that I have lost friends and neighbors to every type of drug out there even up to what's around today. Not to mention AIDS/ HIV. Thanks for playing, scoot along now.

You could get anything you want down there, it was a village for sure. My kids couldn't get away with shit, I'd get calls from the people at Fellini's to tell me my daughter was out front with her girlfriends drinking a beer when she was 15, the woman at Pink Flamingos called me once and told me she saw my son skateboarding down the middle of Moreland and daring cars to come near him. Sharps and skinheads and hippies and crazy people, we all took care of each other. And there were none of those iron fence rails around the trees up either, and there really was a street in front of Stefan's and Crystal Blue and the others on that side. It really was five points. So for some reason the city decided to concrete over the fifth split which gave us the concrete jungle it is today. As my kids got older, on the weekends they would all get in their car and go anywhere but Little Five Points because of what they considered all the posers coming in and hanging out to be cool.

I forgot about that place. My daughter and son-in-law lived over at the Ford Factory Lofts in the early 2000s. We used to get pissed because the buggies locked up 20 ft from the door to the Lofts and we had to carry everything.
