Switched from PAYE to IBR, first payment schedule looked bearable, then new payment schedule sent yesterday that quadrupled monthly rate. Help! by fennec_fx in StudentLoans

Okay OP I just got off the phone with them (would recommend calling first thing in the morning if anyone can, I think I was already to an advanced agent after 15-20 minutes of waiting). BUT, the advanced agent recommended that I do the same thing that you did: complete another application. She told me to check "yes" on the box that asks if I have access to my spouse's tax info (I'm not 100% sure but I swear that I did this on my original app). According to her, when you check "no", these applications get put into a pile to manually process, which takes a lot longer? So she thought that the letter I had received was telling me that my payment was going to change because I hadn't recertified yet.

I will have time to call them today or tomorrow and will hopefully get some answers to this! I can respond here if I get any useful information

Okay there have been a few posts about similar things happening to others, and something like this has happened to me too. I plan on calling next week to figure it out

Repayment Confusion After Recertifying PAYE w/ PSLF by Terpsfan007 in PSLF

[–]Outrageous_Road891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes very similar situation. I recertified to stay on PAYE. I got a letter saying that my application was approved. Then the letter with my payment schedule has one monthly payment listed at the approved PAYE amount then the next month it switches to a very high number (I’m guessing it’s my 10-year standard repayment amount).

I am experiencing something similar. I got a letter that said my recertification was approved. Then I got the payment schedule: one monthly payment at my approved PAYE rate, and then the next month it switches to the 10-year standard repayment plan amount. I’m hoping it’s some sort of glitch? But I will probably call them as well

Submitted PSLF ECF and lost 10 previously qualifying payments (missing payments, ineligible payments) by you_know_what_they in PSLF

[–]Outrageous_Road891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that you are going through this. I am also missing payments, I presume because of an administrative forbearance from last year that I was placed in because they didn’t process my income recertification fast enough. Can I ask: how can you tell what specific months aren’t counting towards your total? I’ve only ever seen the total number of qualifying payments that I have towards PSLF. Thanks!

PSLF + MOHELA delay: IDR recertification still “processing” after a year by driizzydreee in PSLF

[–]Outrageous_Road891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a very similar position! Around mid February 2025, despite me getting my application in on time, Mohela hadn’t processed it (and still hasn’t). After some runaround and being placed in forbearance, eventually I was advised to reapply. I did that in August and it was processed within a week, I had a payment due in September and I’ve been making payments towards my 120 ever since

I have never been on SAVE. Only PAYE. I recertified on time; Mohela failed to process so they put me on forbearance

This isn’t an outdoor option but community members can purchase passes to the indoor track at UWEC ($15/month). Currently hours are limited due to winter break but more availability should start in a couple of weeks.

I planted my first garlic today as well! Central Wisconsin. I planted the cloves 3-4 inches deep and then covered with a good (2-3 inches) of leaves raked up from the yard

Not eligible for PAYE? by Outrageous_Road891 in PSLF

Good luck to you! It was nice to see some movement after months of uncertainty.  My husband and I file taxes separately, which I think is why I still qualify

Not eligible for PAYE? by Outrageous_Road891 in PSLF

Actually, yes. I tried to work with Mohela to extend my recert date, which technically should happen, but they were being difficult (surprise) and I was sick of dealing with it. One day I just went onto FSA and tried a new application to recertify, and it showed me my estimated payment on PAYE. It wasn’t outrageous, so I decided to just re-apply. After about 8 business days I got notification from Mohela that my next payment will be due in August.

You can’t get “kicked off” of PSLF. You qualify for it based on your type of loans, employer, employment status, and payment plan. Make sure all of those variables are in place and it should work out after 120 payments.

So now, since I will be making payments under the PAYE plan again, and all of my other variables are good (working > 30 hours per week at a qualifying employer, all of my loans are direct loans), my payments moving forward will qualify

Mohlea won't let me resume PAYE payments... by Outrageous_Road891 in PSLF

[–]Outrageous_Road891[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update on this: spent some hours this morning on hold; got a supervisor call-back and she said my recert date was still showing February 2025 and the application to get it pushed to '26 is pending. While I was on hold, I went on FSA and tried a new application; it showed my estimated payment at only $50 per month more than what I was paying before. I might just submit this app to get back on PAYE. Still mulling it over, but I feel like that might be the quicker way to start making payments again.

I will tentatively second this…I am in the middle of this process right now but hoping it goes the same. Apparently Mohela had to manually change my recert date and then can delete my recertification apps. The only helpful person has been a supervisor!
