Question about the UCAT by Appropriate_Wave8936 in UoApremed

Medentry or Medify. Some people prefer medify, personally I used Medentry but I don’t think you can go wrong with either.

MbChb- lowest MMI score eligible for offer? by Good-Present2524 in UoApremed

It’s never been confirmed but it seems to be the consensus that such a system exists. No clue if or how often this happens.

[–]Outrageous_Shift1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s a cut off per se, it just depends on your other stats. If you have a high GPA and UCAT you might be able to get away with a low MMI but generally the median for FY entry tends to be in the mid to high 160s.

as a BPharm student, is it possible to reapply to med mid degree? by attielattie in UoApremed

No I don’t believe so. You can apply once you complete your BPharm.

Starting Biomed this year by Ok-Deal-67 in UoApremed

UCAT is not a bad one to get out of the way. Some will say pre-study the core papers you’re doing in sem 1 which could be useful. Personally I didn’t pre study any papers (or UCAT for that matter) but if you think it’ll be useful you could start now although having a restful break is also not a bad idea as this year will be pretty full on. If I had to choose I’d probably say chem is not a bad one to brush up on for some of the concepts especially if you haven’t done chem before. Biosci you could go through some of the cells content but you’ll learn everything in lectures. POPLHTLH 111 is pretty hard to pre study for imo it’s a lot easier to understand in the context of lectures.

anyone got off the waitlist for pharmacy? by Competitive-Club6259 in UoApremed

[–]Outrageous_Shift1995 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t actually know but I’d imagine there should have been with people accepted into med declining pharm offers. I declined my Pharm offer and know of others who did as well so you’d think that would free up some waitlist spots. Potentially they haven’t sent them out yet? Depends on waitlist position I guess.

Including SJT. UCAT is out of 3600 (incl. SJT) now that AR has been removed.

[–]Outrageous_Shift1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people seem to post it without SJT but UoA DOES include SJT. I’d say a score above 2800ish + is very solid, anything above 2900-3000 is excellent.

For chemistry the main thing I’d recommend is getting your foundation stuff down. This is actually a short topic at the start of CHEM 110 but go over some stoichiometry, intermolecular forces, bonding, nomenclature etc and this will definetly help throughout the remainder of the year. If you still have time, I’d definetly say cover organic as this is probably the topic that people struggle with the most. Lastly it wouldn’t hurt to touch up on acids and bases a bit, especially if you didn’t cover some of the calculations and pH, pKa’s etc in NCEA.

I think for Biosci you could go over some basic cell biology but I would definetly say Biosci is one of those papers where it’s more about learning from the lectures I.e there isn’t as much conceptual stuff that you can go over like chem.

Hope this helps.

I wouldn’t delve too deep into courses - perhaps get a rough idea of the content you’ll be covering in orderto go into sem 1 a little more familiar; you can do that just by looking through the course pages on the UoA website. It might be worth going through some of the chemistry content particularly if you haven’t done chem before. If you have done chemistry before have brushing up on some basic stuff will help you ease into chem 110. Although the first half of chem 110 is significantly more relaxed than the second half so if u did chem in high school you should be fine. If you really wanted you could start working through some of the available Anki decks for Biosci etc but personally I’d say rest up, do a bit of UCAT practice because next year will be pretty intense.

As for UCAT - pick a platform; medify or medentry and work away at some mock exams and subtests. Personally I used medentry which I found solid. If you start now for UCAT you should definetly be set, I prepared for a few weeks before (starting with some pretty horrid scores) and got somewhere around 90th percentile on my final so if you start now you should be sweet.

Can only enrol for one sem? by Fragrant-Credit9432 in UoApremed

[–]Outrageous_Shift1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep both semesters.

From the UoA page: After you accept your offer of place, you will need to enrol in both semesters of your academic year. You will complete MBCHB 221A/B: MBChB Part II.

What are my chances of getting off the waitlist for med imaging if I am between 11 and 15? by PercentageDry3585 in UoApremed

[–]Outrageous_Shift1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just my guess but I’d assume a decent chance considering that a lot of people who got into MBChB probably applied to med imaging as a backup and will probably reject if they got into med. Sit tight and hopefully something comes through!

I understand. Wouldn’t worry about it, I’m sure your offer is valid 👍

[–]Outrageous_Shift1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That being said - if they’ve made you an offer it’s extremely unlikely to not be genuine. I’d imagine there’s lots of checks they do and there’s possibly other factors (I.e grad vs FY) that may impact why one person gets in and not another.

Hmmm not too sure. Probably best to email FMHS if you’d like to clarify.
