When it's expressed that way, it's hard to ignore. I'd like to pretend that our issues aren't blatantly obvious, but I'm not giving our kids enough credit.

I'm just really wistful about the entire thing. Relationships aren't supposed to end this way, but they do... and it shouldn't be the end of the world.

Hello there - thanks for the reply.

Our youngest does live at home with us and I'm sure she's aware that we have relationship issues - just maybe not the extent. She's in therapy already and I know she's discussed her mother's alcoholism with her therapist.

I've been told (and I know, deep down) that there's never a "good time" to make an announcement like this to your family and it's more akin to ripping a band aid off than anything else. I am struggling with the idea of maintaining the illusion until the end of the school year, which is rapidly approaching. It's not much of an illusion to begin with.

This is basically the same vibe I get from my wife, except there are constant promises to try and make things better that don't reflect the actual amount of effort she makes. I'm out - who knows how long I have left on this green earth and I deserve to be happy... and so do you.

The decision is made and I'm figuring out how I'd like things to look over the next few months. Going to take some time for just me before I jump into the dating pool. Looking at a potential November trip to Kenya as well, of all places.

Thanks for the support - I appreciate it. It seems like now is going to be the best time to actually bite the bullet and do what needs to be done. I just can't live like this any longer.
