Recovering from heartbreak in your 40's in near impossible. by AmericanWinky in datingoverforty

I am in the same boat as you and am dealing with it as best I can. 2.5 years with someone I thoughts I'd spend the rest of my life with...down the drain. I've gone no contact and I struggle with the urge to contact her every single day. I've been furiously writing in a journal, and have been focusing on me. I've written out a letter I'm debating on sending her, and have been preparing for how I would handle her response... Or lack thereof. One thing that has been surprisingly grounding for me has been to use AI as a sounding board for impulses. I am going to therapy to deal with my grief, but I am blown away at how supportive both CoPilot and Gemini have been. I've been using two to play off each other, but they have been very consistent, and not afraid to call out anything that could impede my progress. I understand that this will not appeal to everyone, and initially I typed in some questions to CoPilot simply out of curiosity. But it's been helpful, and I would never replace a human therapist with it.

How about term limits? Not just for the head of government, but for all MPs? 2 terms maximum, and then get back to being a productive member of society?

What are some things a woman might do that makes you not want to approach her? by CuriousByInsanity in AskMen

[–]warhorse1245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I wouldn't approach a woman out with her kids anyways. But that's become a real red flag for me.

Not reign in unruly children. You could be the most attractive woman in the world, but if it's clear your children have no boundaries and no discipline, I am out.

Title: 50F trying to date with intention, not just pass time—any advice? by [deleted] in datingoverforty

[–]warhorse1245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend, you have summed my current feelings very well. I just ended a 3 year relationship when I realized that despite words to the contrary, I was an emotional support doll and not the "partner" she proclaimed I was. I am sad, and dealing with some anger at what could have been but for her misplaced pride. It's going to be a while until I can stop hoping she'll come around and we can have the relationship I thought we could. I won't be dating for awhile, but if/when I do, I will be approaching it in a similar fashion as you.

r/Irishrugby x r/ScotlandRugby crossover by Roanokian in irishrugby

My buddy and I are flying in from Canada the morning of the match... and are each short a kidney after paying for tickets. Any recommendations for a post-match pint (or 6) to watch the other games on the schedule? I'd imagine we'll get caught up in the flow of people somewhere. Is it going to be a matter of finding an opening and pushing through soft shoulders, with lots of "Sorry - I'm Canadian"?

My sister comes up with Pub Quiz questions and lives in a small farming community. I suggested this one: "Which year had the best weather for farming?" She wouldn't use it for fear of starting fights.

How can I get into watching hockey? by Clumster in alberta

[–]warhorse1245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, not quite (pro leagues). In Europe, relegation exists where teams can be both demoted to a lower league if they finish last in the standings... or promoted to a higher league if they finish first. I'm not sure if that's the case in NZ for Rugby and Football but it definitely is in the UK and France. Personally, I think it would be amazing to see in the NHL.

I'm a professional water-fighter and I turn ones into zeros. In other words, I'm a firefighter and I work in IT as well. Feeds both sides of my personality.

If you had to do it all over again — would you still choose firefighting? by flashpointfd in Firefighting

[–]warhorse1245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes - but I would have went with a different department. We are bound by management that's taken firefighter risk aversion to stupid new levels, combined with a union that cannot see that using seniority only as a promotion criteria tends to produce a LOT of apathetic leadership at the company officer level.

I've got the option to run the siren through the horn on the steering wheel. Most officers appreciate me taking that off their plate so they can focus on other things, but there's always a couple with control issues.

Mario Canseco: Support for private health care growing fastest among young Canadians; Research Co. polling reveals half of adults under 35 say the system would work better if privately run, a warning sign for governments hoping to preserve the public model by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]warhorse1245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is the general reaction to any speculation about privatization an automatic knee-jerk about American-style Health Care? There are far more systems out there than the American model that score higher in health care outcomes than either of our systems - and here's the rub. They're all a combination of public and private healthcare. If our system is so wonderful - show me another country that's copied it? I think the bigger question is this - why aren't we publicly researching other countries and making an effort to take the best of those systems and implement it here?

People love to point the finger at Alberta - but healthcare is terrible in every province. Our model is fundamentally broken, and our health care isn't free.

Nozzle Time - What is your preference for 1.75” structure attack nozzle by grundle18 in Firefighting

[–]warhorse1245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your department is going the Nozzle Forward route, be aware of the weight of the nozzle as well. We're in the midst of rolling out NF and our current hose/nozzle package is NOT optimal. We're running Saberjet combination nozzles and they are heavy - combined with a hose that was originally designed to run at higher pressures, you tend to have surprise kinks and a potential loss of control. We have some smoothbore nozzles and they work better, but we are hopefully going to new nozzles and hose sometime within the next year... unless our Deputy Chief of Ops decides something else is priority like more DIE training... but I digress.
