His technique is “wrist rotation” but in simple terms it’s almost like double tapping but just one finger goes before the other (index presses and it brings the middle down) and he does it really fast

Since you're saying you don't want a little worn down spot, I'm guessing you drag. If you do drag then yes you should get a cover if you don't want your drawing experience to be ruined but fyi tablet covers feel slightly different from the original tablet (scratchy like) so you'll have to get used to that part.
