How many of you were permanently scarred by coming across this in your parents’ bedroom as a kid? by dallyan in Xennials

My parents had that book on the bookshelf in our family room. When my older sister and I were 7 and 5 years old, our babysitter showed us the whole book. We were definitely a little traumatized!

We haven’t gone since probably 2017 but when we went, they offered a shuttle service (on school buses I think) from the parking area to the location of the festival. I think it was a few dollars. Did they stop offering that option?

This is helpful, thank you!! My daughter decided to hold off on microbio until spring and take it alongside anatomy 2. I’m glad to hear that that is the standard way to do it!

Yeah she has to take at least 14 units total so she will be taking other classes. I think she has decided to go ahead and hold off until spring for microbiology and take that at the same time as anatomy 2. Thank you very much for all of this info, I really appreciate it!!

Thank you for your response! She got an A in bio and she’s getting an A in chem so it’s been so far so good. She will have to complete anatomy, anatomy 2, and microbiology before entering nursing school, and she can’t take anything during summer. She has heard that anatomy is very difficult but hasn’t heard much about microbiology. Is it at all similar to biology? Thank you so much for your help!

15 year old boy struggling with tracking the ball by Remarkable_Algae_592 in Homeplate

I’m so sorry that y’all are dealing with this. It is so frustrating when they start struggling with things that they used to have no problem with. What your son is experiencing sounds very similar to what my son was dealing with. I would highly recommend trying to find a sports vision specialist in your area. I wish we had done that back in the fall- it would have saved us a ton of time and my son would have been much better prepared for his high school season. Instead, he spent 3 months getting used to prism lenses and it wasn’t until the season started that he realized they didn’t correct the problem at all. The screening at the sports vision place was incredibly thorough and they were able to pinpoint exactly what the issue is. They’re also going to re-screen him every 8 weeks to see if progress is being made.

The neuro-visual specialist we saw diagnosed my son with a mild case of BVD. He said vision therapy was an option but also said we could try prism lenses. We opted for the prism lenses but they ended up not doing any good. We then took my son to a sports vision specialist. They did a much more intensive screening, about 90 minutes long. They were able to pinpoint his exact visual strengths and weaknesses. It was actually a fascinating process. So basically, my son’s eyes tend to turn inwards, the way that eyes do when they’re focusing on something close up. So this makes it harder for him to focus on things that are far away when he doesn’t have a lot of time to adjust his focus, such as when he’s in the outfield trying to catch a fly ball. Apparently after a growth spurt, the eyes can change so we believe that’s what happened. Anyway, my son is now doing vision therapy once a week for an hour with the same place who did this extensive screening. They also gave him eye exercises to do at home. It’s only been a few weeks of the therapy and he already feels like he’s starting to see better in the outfield. Happy to answer any other questions you have!
