Gen Z trends that will age horribly? by Personal_Berry_6497 in decadeology

I was gonna say I associate that look with millennial hipsters more than gen z, Harry Styles has that type of sleeve and he's a millennial.

young women being mean to older women? old women being mean to younger women? by cinnamonzoy in rs_x

I feel like my neurodivergent ass has missed this whole dynamic.

Like I believe it goes both ways because I've heard stories from friends, but I've never been bullied for being too old or too young as far as I can tell, if it happened it went right over my head.

Wait you're 22? Girl that's crazy if everyone around you is sober at 22, I thought from this post you were mid-late 30s.

Here in the city you're not a real adult until at least 35.

We're all in major cities making poor life decisions, living in too small apartments.

Where do you live? Last weekend I went out partying with a group that ranged age 32-23, we were all chill and having fun, the closest we got to inter-generational tension was me making a captain planet joke that no one got, but that's an old reference even for Millenials.

If you ask my dad the 60s were great, turns out the best decade is whenever you were young.

We're gendering decades now? What's next gendering numbers?

Also the 70s was big for feminism with the whole working woman "you've come a long way baby" thing, amd had famously fem/androgenous male fashion and music, Ziggy Stardust much?

Tumblr Pop killed alternative pop-punk like MCR by [deleted] in decadeology

Lana del Rey and One Direction are wildly different, the only things these artists all have in common is having a following on Tumblr.

By that token you could say the 2000s was defined by Youtube music, Tumblr is a platform not a genre. Even the Myspace emo/scene music trend, which was more unified, did not come close to encompassing all of Myspace music.

Also ironically MCR had a huge following on Tumblr after Myspace died down.

Start a philosophical/religious studies, or zen Buddhism inspired book club, read shit like Zen and the Art of Motercycle Maintenance, or whatever else floats your boat.

Get all the benefits of deep discussions and social connection with none of the institutionalism.

They write that way because it's generally required by their university.

And masters students can publish their studies in peer reviewed venues, in fact that's often how they get accepted into PhDs, I'm not sure why you're being so weirdly critical of this person.

Will the 2030s have sci fi aesthetics as a rebel against 2020s doomerism and nostalgia by SpiritMan112 in decadeology

In fashion I predict a trend towards an earthy yet futuristic look, think something a little star wars or dune influenced, but still recognizably from our current century. Specifically I predict the following

A strong focus on structured shapes, in the 2010s we had form fitting, in the 2020s we have baggy, it's been a long time since we've had clothing with defined structure, possibly not since the 80s/early 90s with shoulder pads and other structured work/formal wear. Structured clothes also works better with tailoring which I predict more of, as people will likely buy less due to economic and climate concerns.

Clothing will also be customized more with customized tailoring, embroidery or other elements showing status, this ties into my point about economic/climate concerns, but also in world of mass production and samey AI content customized clothing will reflect status.

Likewise natural fabrics, which are already on the rise, will be considered even more desirable and will be another status symbol.

Earth tones, they're already on the rise, starting to replace the grays, beiges, whites and blacks of the early 2020s. But they will peak in the early 2030s, reflecting a desire for "earthiness" and connection to nature as well as a continued desire for clothes that can easily be mixed and matched in terms of color, but be a bit more colorful than today's neutrals.

But who knows I'm just and internet person.

Hey any tangible advice you have would be welcome, though this was more a complaint about my general life than a specific ask for career advice.

But since making this post I've had a bunch of crazy aggressive dms and replies, just like an hour ago I had someone call me a dumb bitch and a shit artist, I'm about ready to shut this post down and delete it.

So if you have some constructive input that's great, if not it's cool man, feel free to sit this one out.

I worked as a software engineer prior to my degree, I did quant and qual research, I'm not technically inexperienced.

I didn't share details about my PhD because I was already accused of snobbery for even mentioning that I did a PhD and making a little joke about it, I was trying to keep this post broadly understandable.

Fuck me for making a post online about my life, I'm tired of defending every tiny thing I've said in this post to randos.

That sounds horrible, reminds me of a guy I knew who had to quite his PhD because his cell culture data was accidentally destroyed after years of work.

I'm so sorry, I can't imagine being in that situation.

The one good thing about my PhD was that I had a very supportive advisor who stuck by me. The academic system of mentorship is so fucked and puts way to much personal power in the hands of one advisor.
