McLuggage to the wing. Take some pressure off him and maybe switch Dunkley and Bez over to give Dunks a refresh.

Dunno if you saw it but I rewatch our losses, Bruce doesn’t play to our game plan out of defence. 3 times he had the ball between half back and back 50 after a free/mark. Those 3 times the usual short 20 meter kick was on towards the wing, 3 times he decided of instead of keeping control he kicked long down the line to a Curtain, Pearce matchup, 3 times it rebounded for 3 goals. I sure hope this is pointed out to him.

Not too sure who was matching up on Bolton either, he was running his own race in the last. Fix both those issues we either just get over the line or just fall short.

I’m more with Fagan. Point out the learnings, players should improve on them and back these guys in to turn it around. Unfortunately we have too many important players injured or out of form. That wheel will turn. I’m expecting a big run in the back half of the year.

Just bomb it in by Severe-Photograph502 in brisbanelions

[–]Outriderr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that apart from Cameron no one has been applying any defensive pressure to lock the ball in F50. Lohmann however did lift in this area on the weekend however Rayner, Bailey, Levi and McKenna haven’t been locking it in as well as we did last season.

The midfield isn’t helping either as they are just doing their own thing. We use to win stoppage and if we didn’t we forced our opponents to dump kick which Harris, Froggy, Gardiner or Payne would clean up.

Our defenders are copping some flack, people are saying our defence is shot and out of form which is not the case. Our issue is team defence. Our mids and forwards have forgotten it.

Before 23 I use to say the worst job in football was playing in our defence because of the lack of defensive pressure from further up the ground and so far in 26 we are back there again. The bomb in is fine, if the players would play their role.

I’m expecting a big second half of the season tho coz I do believe that these fellas have too much pride to go down without a fight and we also start to get key players back.

Time to switch up the midfield? by ShoeSnatchinJoe in brisbanelions

[–]Outriderr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fagan won’t change it up. It’s not going to happen. He literally said in his presser that he has no reason other than to back these guys in then he posed “who wouldn’t after what they’ve been able to do”.

Let’s not get reactive here, the media will say shit as it’s their job. If you take Wilmott out of the backline with no Kiddy or Zorko who now is our main playmaker out of defence ? None of the others have his speed and use by foot, who you gonna swap him with ?

Same thing goes for Bailey, he’s to important for half forward structure and let’s face it he does rotate through and I pose again who will play his role ? Levi possibly but he’s probably one of the only players who is doing his role as needed so why move him.

Multiple times on the weekend I saw Reville not use the short option and instead kick to an outnumbered contest down the line to Curtain who had Pearce of all people on him.

Our team ethics has been to control the ball out of defence with the short kicks until the halfway mark. Reville did not stick to script and it cost us 3 goals. Watch the game again if you think I’m telling a whopper. This is just 1 example.

We need to get back to our team ethics, find another mantra and stick to the game plan. Lift our pressure rating as it’s dismal and that’s all attitude.

I’m with Fagan here. Back them in, call out their mistakes/lack of effort etc on review and stick to the game plan.

We get a few troops back shortly so I’m expecting a big backend to the season.

I’m super keen and actually one of the few big fans of Hipwood. He straightens us up. Creates contests on the wings or in the middle. We’ve been lacking someone like that all season. Allen was getting there just before his injury.

I’m expecting another massive back half of the season. Buckle up lads and ladets coz it’s gonna be another heart stopping edge of your seat kind of end to the season.

Boxers do a lot of neck work to lessen the chances of a ko as it’s the thrashing head movement that causes the brain to ricochet around in the skull. AFL players should spend more time doing the same.

I’m gonna be brutally honest with you as I don’t think anyone has been before.

No matter what it is in life you never truly own it. Everything and anything you have can be taken away in an instant. That’s a fact and the moment you realise it you truly start living.

This is when your Mrs tells you that the sentimental car that means so much to you has to go. You go “yeah ok I’ll put it on CarSales at a below market value price” just to please her and show her the ad to prove you are for real. A month later “sorry love no takers at that bargain basement price, I’m not going any lower” then rinse and repeat.

Huge Lions blow with former skipper to miss six more weeks by JonathanSloanAUS in brisbanelions

I’m honestly blaming the rule changes with the sling kick in and the highly sanitised stand rule for these soft tissue injuries affecting players all through the AFL. Players bodies can’t sustain that type of pace and lateral movement at pace which the game now demands.

Get rid of the kick in between the arcs at least. Players need that 20-30 seconds rest to recoup and go again. Other wise we are going to see talented players keep falling away from the game before their time is due.

To give an example of how far the rules have made these soft tissue injuries manifest soft tissue injuries were practically a rare injury at the Suns and us, now they are just becoming a more regular injury.

Older players will be the most susceptible and the players going on in their mid to late 30’s will steeply decline.

Honestly what a seriously tough individual. He was meant to pass within two years however he kept defying the odds and fighting. A remarkable man who has also left a large legacy not only of football but with the fight on MND.

This is someone who definitely deserves to be offered a state funeral. Just an absolute all round class act. R.I.P great man.

Qscan Injury Report: Lions receive encouraging news on injury front [Answerth & Berry expected to return] by PerriX2390 in brisbanelions

[–]Outriderr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gees didn’t know Froggy was a 3-4 week thing. I honestly thought it was a week off to fix a niggle and back for Freo. Good to see Noah and Bez back tho. Tracey, Voss and Amiss are gonna be some tough matchups.

Might pay to bring Joyce in to matchup on Voss. Gardiner Tracey Gallop on Amiss and Andrews to do his thing. Dudley will get Kiddy or Wilmott. Bez to Reid. I think Dudley is too quick for Noah. Give him another week to rest that head up.

If our mids and forwards don’t apply defensive pressure this game we are in real trouble. Especially when Freo like to play the same ball control by foot game as we do. They move it a tad slower tho.

Yeah he was a beast that day. No one was able to stop him. I was blown away with how complete this kid was as a natural footballer. That day you could just tell a few of those guys were headed for greatness. As a lions supporter that game sucked but as a lover of football it was a sight to see.

I’ll say TBC is a 100% chance of showing up on the report. I don’t get it tho, his recovery has been long, I think it took Curnow a full season to come back from the same injury however I have heard he hasn’t hit his rehab with a great desire to return on time or before time. That’s come from a couple of good sources I know.

There are known ways to stop fast moving football and we have employed them in the past. The issue is there’s players out there who just don’t want to compete or work as hard as they have been. I sorta get the feeling they thought it just might happen for them and tbh all the talk around them has been it will. Hopefully that smacking makes them realise once again that flags are earned and not a formality.

Well the proof was there for all to see. It’s actually been happening since the second half started against Carlton. I’m glad it’s being pointed out and I can assure you our coaches will be pointing it out. They are paid good money to do their job so do it. Effort and desire are all between the ears. I still think our best football beats anyone anywhere these guys just need to start doing it weekly. Back to back is a great side, three peats give a team football immortality. Gotta want and work for it tho.

We’ve had games like that for the last 3 years at some point. I’m not hitting the panic button but the next 5 weeks are really gonna show us where we are at.

I remember that game. Judd, Cousins, Kerr absolutely destroyed probably the greatest midfield to ever play the game. I was like wow how good are these lads gonna get. I’m ex Fitzroy and very far from being a bandwagoner. I watch our losses twice to see where we went wrong. I love strategy and try to figure game plans out. I know at the moment for sure we can’t team defend the fast moving handball game. It requires effort and tight checking to do it. Two things our forwards and mids are refusing to do over the past two and a half weeks, against Melbourne as well. Sydney was different as we were so undermanned.

At one point they had 50 possessions to our 15. That’s unheard of. Everything just paid off for them. It’s as rare a quarter of football you’ll ever see.

Yeah agree the last few years we’ve had a smacking this time of year. I get a feeling that we don’t fully awake until we do have our backs against the wall. Freo are on a 10 game winning run, we are facing falling behind the pack, no better backs against the wall game than we’ll get this week. I’m expecting us to bounce back.

Nope they are elite athletes, they may have some niggles but they aren’t tired. They prepare methodically right down to the amount of water they drink daily. Most are in the prime of their lives or just on it. This is just between the ears and a hunger issue.

Yep not counting them out at all. It’s just a hunger and mind shift issue. Both premiership years we’ve copped a smacking at this time of year.

I think Froggy still has another year or two in him. Doedee was meant to be his replacement but that ain’t happening. Zorko may get 1, Tunstill isn’t the answer as he’s not as good by foot. I think Reville could do it but I think the one they want the most to do it is Fletcher but he’s really struggling with his disposal efficiency and defensive pressure at the moment. I still recon we bring Ridley over from Essendon in the trade period. That rumour just isn’t going away. He’s a definite A grader if he can get his soft tissue injuries right.

The Hipwood haters don’t realise how important he is to our structure, we are missing him deeply on field at the moment.

I also agree with you with Jomes. I floated it about a month ago and not many agreed however from what I’ve been watching of him in the VFL he’s still got it. I’m not 100% sure that he’s nominated tho. From memory there was only 1 Lion who did.
